General Discussion / Re: Hope for Forgotten Servers

Doesn't matter what you use, as long as you can find good servers.

I was particularly impressed with LogMeIn HamachiĀ² a few weeks ago when I hosted a LAN party with about a dozen friends. There was another LAN party at another location with another dozen or so, and we were able to link our LAN connections to play against each other in FH2 and BFP2.

That's just one example - you can create a network over the internet to have virtual LAN parties with friends for any game.

Wow! I remember Red Baron! That was an amazing game back in '96. Ah, the memories!

Sounds to me like there may be a war brewing between FH2 and PR fans. Since the PR soldiers have a definite technological advantage, I suggest you settle your differences over a game of BFP2.

If you're having trouble finding servers online - I suggest the FH2 forum members download and use a game application like Steam or Xfire - I personally don't like proprietary game software much, but I have to admit it's very useful for finding people to play games that don't have many servers online.

Download Steam Here
Note: You do not need a steam-based game to have the app and an account. The program gives allows you to make a friends list with people (like from this forum)

Download Xfire Here
I have never used xfire myself, but some people I trust have recommended it.

You can also use LogMeIn HamachiĀ² if you understand how to set up a LAN network. This program basically allows you to set up a LAN network over the internet. I use this with all my friends and find it very useful - and it's free!

Download LogMeIn HamachiĀ² Here
Both managed and unmanaged modes are free for public use.

What I recommend is everyone on this forum use Steam or a program like it to make a friends list of all the other people from the board - and if you can't find a suitable FH2 server, just log in to Steam and send IMs to other members online, and then set up a Hamachi network to play the game over the VPN.

But this mod DB top 100 looks like its very old and outdated. I think I remember seeing it some time back in 2006 when such top 100 lists were still popular.

I believe the moddb list is pretty current, they just had the moty awards not a month ago.

BTW: the overall top 100 list is out of 2968 mods - and FH2 is #8. That's pretty impressive.

Good job guys! FH2 is ranked as the #1 BF2 mod and it's currently #8 in the top 10 Mods of any game on moddb.com - certainly makes my top 10.

I wonder if some of these sound issues might be speaker settings on your PCs - for example if you have speakers set as 5.1 and you only have 2 speakers, or you have 5 speakers and its set as 2.

I only have a few small issues with the game.  One of which is realism of objects, such as tables and chairs, debris, etc.  Just about all items do not move.  d attention to detail was put into it.

I wonder if movable chairs could be simulated by creating static objects like tables and chairs and setting them as vehicles - I noticed I can push other vehicles when in a tank. This would not allow for accurate physics, but movable objects maybe.

...I prefer leaving the original files as intact as possible and ONLY removing the portions of coding known for SURE to cause problems in 2.2...
Just make a backup of your server.zip before you change anything. That way you can chop 'n change it to your heart's content and if you make a mistake you have the original to fall back on... ;)

It's not that - I always back up files before I change them; I just believe in keeping the original file as intact as possible as the mod maker intended.

Dodgy connection ay? Then you need to get AIX (if you don't already have it) and imtheheadhunter's map pack for it (30 extra maps).

I do have AIX, but I'm glad to hear there's a map pack, thanks for the heads-up, cannon! I'll download it at a friend's house next week as well as the FH2 update. Looking forward to a good LAN if I can get my friends to re-install BF2 and the mods. I'm going to make sure everyone has the correct files and uptades myself that way we don't waste time setting up with version conflicts etc.

Once they get into playing the mods they will understand why it was worth the effort.

I like that, too. That's why I said the mod community seems to be at the height of quantity output - there may be fewer active players in number, but those that are around are the most experienced/dedicated mod developers and fans - a great environment for creating high quality content.

When I reinstalled BF2 after so long I didn't expect there to be much mod activity still around; but the mod community seems to be healthy and thriving at the height of quality output. I'm glad I got back in. I have a feeling I arrived in time to catch some of the best BF2 content available.

I'm looking forward to many more hours of gaming goodness! Hopefully I can get better online access in the near future - right now I don't have good internet for online play, but maybe I can pull together a few LAN parties for this mod and others like it.

Huzzah!

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Widescreen for FH?
« on: 18-02-2010, 02:02:58 »
I'm not sure if this would work or not but I noticed there is a command line for BF2 to set the resolution.

+szx - Set resolution width

+szy - Set resolution height

I believe you add these at the end of your shortcut path in BF2. It didn't seem to work when I tried it but perhaps someone else who knows command lines better can help.

This is how I believe the command line should work in the shortcut path:

(example for widescreen)
"D:\Battlefield 2\FH2.exe" +szx 1920 +szy 1080

But again, it didn't seem to work when I tried testing this method.

Single player support is an important and useful element.

Some of us (like myself) don't always have a stable or fast enough internet connection to play online games, and second - co-op support is useful for LAN games where a handful of human players can play against an army of AI bots - one of my favorite ways to play - There's just something special about "beating the machine" when outnumbered 4-1 with 100 bots!

Even with online play, bot support is useful for filling in half-empty servers etc during the slow times of day when everyone is at work or school.

Online play is certainly the greatest fun, but it's nice to have alternatives.

Fantastic mod isn't it? I'm a huge fan of total conversion mods and their DEV teams, I think they're some of the best game developers in the industry because they're dedicated to making games that are based on fun rather than on profits and marketability.

There is a kind of "creative purity" in total conversion gaming that really appeals to me.
