Favorite Heavy Tank in 2.45
« on: 10-11-2012, 06:11:20 »
Easy enough. What's your favorite to use? Why?

As a friendly reminder, here are all of the heavy tanks we currently enjoy in FH2:

Quote
PzKpfw VI Ausf. E "Tiger" (early) (Mareth Line, Sidi Bou Zid)
PzKpfw VI Ausf. E "Tiger" (late) (Lebisey, Ramelle-Neuville, Villers Bocage, Operation Totalize)
PzKpfw VI Ausf. B "Tiger II" (Bastogne, Eppeldorf, Operation Goodwood, Meuse River)

M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo (75mm) (Bastogne)
M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo (76mm) (Meuse River)

Matilda Mk II (Battle of Keren, Mount Olympus, Sidi Rezegh, Siege of Tobruk, Bardia)
Valentine Mk II (Sidi Rezegh, Mersa Matruh)
Churchill Mk III (El Alamein, Mareth Line, Operation Supercharge)
Churchill Mk IV (Operation Totalize)
Churchill Mk IV (75mm) (Operation Totalize, Anctoville)

Personally, although I am a great fan of the 75mm Jumbo on Bastogne (I will proudly tell you all now that I not once, but twice, outflanked Unique-mck in his Panther to kill him with it in a single round), I have to say my favorite heavy tank in the mod at the moment is the Valentine. Don't get to use it very often, but something about it I adore. Perhaps it's the sound of useless German rounds banging off the front of my tank all day, or my own laughter echoing inside the hull afterwards.

On the other side of the coin, and perhaps I just suck (this seems likely), I've never felt any more invincible in a Churchill than I would in say, a Cromwell. I seem to get fausted, Panther-sniped and panzerschrek'd just as easily in all three of the variants. Perhaps I'll have more luck with the AVRE.

So what's your favorite heavy tank right now? What ones don't you like? What maps need more or less of them? What new ones do we need to find a way to get into the mod?

(In other words, please please please we need a Crocodile :D).

Like Theta0, my favourite heavy tank is the Tiger II. Although I think it should have better frontal armor (impenetrable) and as a tradeoff less sidearmor (76mm should go through more often - depending on angle).

Valentines and Matildas never ever felt like awesome killing machines with their 2 Pounders.

By german classification the Panther was a medium tank, although you could argue about that. It´s also shown as a medium tank in FH2 on the minimap marker.

Picky picky. If the FH2 minimap says it's a heavy tank, that's what I put here, and I didn't see how to make a poll.

Tiger. Always had a weakness for that awesome box of steel that should scare the crap out of Yanks/Tommies.

I really wish to like the King Tiger but ever since I got interested in WW2 I've just thought it looks like of goofy. It looks menacing from 3/4 view (front or back) but head on or from the sides I think it just looks silly, so I call if I've got the Firefly I just ask "where is that fat cat?" in chat. I'm not scared of it at all, I just avoid it on the battlefield like avoiding one of your mum's friends if you see her in the grocery store :D.

I'll take a Panther any day of the week.

It can occasionally look awesome though:

Haaaaaaaaa :D I lol'd

I like the Jumbo 76 on Eppeldorf. Mobility of the standard sherman, and it's fun to watch Panthers sit there scratching their heads as to why you're not in flames after a couple shots.

Same for me. I don't drive tanks too often, but I feel best in a Panther. Would choose it over all those heavy tanks. I like the Jumbo too though. Thing with Panther is that you can adapt pretty well to every situation. The armor is good enough to make it hard for infantrymen to take you out, your gun usually destroys the majority of Allied tanks and the Panther is not as slow as Tiger and King Tiger. In those very heavy tanks I always feel I have a special job to do with them and the low speed as well as everyone looking for you makes flanking not easier.

So I'd always pick a Panther over Tiger/King Tiger. Also, Panther and Tiger are beautiful tanks, KingTiger is indeed not :P

Isnt the 76 Jumbo only on Meuse river line?
