I've always been on the side of adding a rifle or more significant firearm than a pistol to deployable classes. For example, the M1 Carbine for the US, the Enfield for the Commonwealth & British forces, and the K98 for the Germans.

It's only one more rifle. Hardly overkill. I can't see any imbalance coming from it. Quite the contrary - the change might be benificial, as it would encourage players to use more pickup kits since they can defend themselves in certain circumstances. A player that can stow away his pickup and use a rifle is also a benifit to a squad. Deploy times and other mechanics essentially remove rambo'ing, so I don't see why this can be viewed as a imbalance.

We could be here all day and argue historical accuracy. There's evidence for and against, as illustrated by documented photographs, accounts and other media.

"Amen brother" I think FH2 is a mix of realism and fun. Adding rifle to the kit would be realistic and fun... see my point :D. It's in the game in a small scale and there is yet to be strong opposition to the suggestion other than "why change something that has worked in the past", which is well lets be honest quit.... if you grasp my meaning.

IMHO the mortar kit should be a mortar kit.

What would you even need the rifle for, you are all the times behind front line anyway.

Huoh... Because flag are captured and then recaptured back. "The front lines" are always in motion. When you are bombarding a flag that is about to be attacked by your team mates, you can join in the attack. Cause eventually the spotted place isnt "good" anymore(team mates on it,spotter has died,no enemys). In my experience it is like 50/50 on the public servers that some one is spotting regularly and giving some good spots. What do you do when you are defending a positon with mortar and the enemy gets within sight? Run like hell? Try to engage with the pistol? Duck and cover?

Relocate the mortar and keep the 'nades flying. That is if I have for some strange reason placed my mortar at a flag where enemy can attack.

If you want to use rifle and fight alongside your team mates, play as a rifleman.

If I recall correctly U.S. teams used M1's in the pacific for mortar crews and supply truck drivers, basically they supplied it to those people only if they would ever have to use it because chance of attack was low for them behind their lines.

I know there isn't a pacific campaign but still it would be useful if he mortar team was attacked. Just so they don't go rambo and etc. you could limit the ammount of clips they have. I.e. regular m1 carbine has 5 clips or something, mortar gets 2. something along those lines

Got to go with Thorondor on this.  I don't want to feel like an uber rambo type with my MG42 tripod.  I want to be the MG jerk that hangs outside a flag being a jerk to people spawning so as to help my boys get into said flag.  The pickup kits have a job and a place and should not be used as the all around kit for doing what the fuck ever.

The purpose of this deployment was to "annoy and defy the United States ... on her with Bofors 40 mm guns from a range of 650

I wish we can spawn over a Lafette guy.

For example, one day i wanted to save Mudra from destruction but i couldnt spawn because he was having s.... i mean, using his lafette. Spawning on Lafettes/Mortars/Vickers/.30 Cals, etc would be epic.

Also, why we dont have a deployable Breda... wait, we have one?

Okay. I see that my suggestion isnt getting the support that i thought it would. Then i would like to point out that the rifle on the mortar kit in the map PHL should be taken out. Cause it seems that nobody wants it there and it is clear ruining the gameplay on that map.... It is an "uber kit" and it should be taken out.
