The leadship of the Bismarck class, the Bismarck, was sunk after a cat and mouse chase with the royal navy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_battleship_Bismarck

It was a rather important victory, as the allies had a weakend morale.

So, whose gonna start?

Anyway, the Wiki article has a nice paragraph regarding the aftermath of the sinking here:

Quote
After the sinking, Tovey wrote in his memoirs: "The Bismarck had put up a most gallant fight against impossible odds, worthy of the old days of the Imperial German Navy, and she went down with her colours flying." The admiral had wanted to say this publicly but the Admiralty informed him: "For political reasons it is essential that nothing of the nature of the sentiments expressed by you should be given publicity, however much we admire a gallant fight."

The bismarck showed how though a battleship was.

most british ships for example, expanded ALL of there torpedo's. And infact, rumour has that none of these where actually effective
The swordfish that attacked the bismarck, scored a rather lucky hit on its rutter

Well that Swordfish lacks knowledge in history in that case.

HMS Hood casualties - 1,415

Bismarck casualties - 1,995

Hardly a pwning there is it?

Self sunk??

The total British casualties for the engagement with the Bismarck is 1,428.

So that's 13 dead on the Prince of Wales.

Still less than the Bismarck, again hardly a pwning.
