Panzer 4 d/f1
« on: 15-05-2009, 14:05:31 »
These tanks have 42 armor piercing and 16 high explosive shells but i think they can be more effective with 16 ap and 42 he because short barreled 75 mm gun is not suitable for anti tank role (poor accuracy and weak penetration) ap shells are only effective against vickers, daimler and crusader ( can't pierce crusader's turret) and grant's doors which means we don't need lots of them how ever 75 mm high explosive shells are devastating and as we know panzer 4s made to support panzer 3s against defensive positions and infantry because panzer 3's 37 mm guns were weak for that job. :-\ So it was a support tank and i think it needs more high explosive shells. ;)

As far as I know, the ammunition count is based on real values. If they have 42 AP and 16 HE rounds in-game, that means they also had 42 AP and 16 HE rounds in real life. I don't think this should be changed, atleast not drastically. I'm sure some had a little more or a little less than the values depicted.

But of course, if a mistake has been made I hope to see it fixed. :)

Yeah this is definitely something to look into. It needs more HE shells at least.

Yeah even if it was that way in some tanks i'm sure they could change their loadouts in real life. I don't know though i might be wrong. Still i'd be all for decreasing AP and increasing HE if it helps gameplay.

Just to clarify, no-one expected you to search for the threads in the old forums, Katakulli. :) A good thread, a good suggestion.

And I'm not trying to be mean either, I just want to clear up that Die_happy meant the old forums.

panzer 3's 37 mm guns were weak for that job.

Well, they were 37mm in Poland and France, so hes sort of right.

Anyway, I stand behind this suggestion.  Though the loadout should be something like this:
56 HE
10 HEAT
I don't think there should be any standard AP shot, since that just encourages people to use it against other tanks.  The HEAT shells are more than sufficient for helping kill mattys and valentines, but otherwise, you should be spamming HE with these tanks.

Personally I think they should look into the idea of reducing the HEAT shell count as well as the AP count. I get the impression the HEAT rounds were rarer irl than they are in FH2, though I lack any concrete figures stating such.

Ah... how far removed we are from the world of FH1... in which the Germans struggled on for years without a Pzr-III, and had pitiful AP power from the short barreled Pzr-IV's ;)
