New to modding, need some questions answered.
« on: 15-04-2009, 04:04:06 »
Hey guys

I've been playing BF2 for years now and only stumbled upon modding just now. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me please.

1) Is there enough people to play with during EU times?

2) Is Forgotten Hope 1 still being played and if so where can I download it?

3) Is this legal?  (no offense intended)

4) Can multiple mods be installed at once?

Shiza! He's caught on to us boys... pack it up, let's MOOOOOVE on out!

Regarding your other questions...

1) Yes usually two servers are completely full, plus a half full one around prime time hours.

2) There are some people still playing FH1, and there's often a full server during prime hours.

4) Yes multiple mods can be installed at one time.

I only play FH1. It is de shit. Great engine, huge selection, quirky fun maps, Alpenfestung!

Here is where to download, assuming you have Battlefield 1942 to play it on.

Also, you may want 7-zip to unzip it with. Its like WinRar, which they recommend, except free.
Twilight - the movie is just like Schindler's list... You know you're watching a crime against humanity, but it's sort of entertaining.~~Ts4EVER

Considering the mod tools are released by the company that makes the game, yes, modding is legal xD

Also, if EA games were half sane, they would truly encourage modding because it not only increases game sales, but also builds a community that respects the company and loves the game. And by encourage I mean do something more than talk, starting with fulfilling promises to current gaming communities. *coughCOugh*

I'll give some feedback on FH1, there is usually 2 servers with around 40/50 players in Euro evenings and 1 with around 10 players. The only pity is that all servers only play the popular maps (Normandy 1944, Ostfront 1945, Pacific 1945, Holland 1944) so yes, for a moment it's fun but it gets boring soon. In FH2 there is a much greater variety with maps.

And...

You've heard Hockeywarrior, people! Pack your stuff and get in line, move out. Keep walking until we reach the first rendezvous point, men with arms stay behind to repel any attackers. Good luck and godspeed!

Indeed as Fuchs said above FH1 suffers from repetive map list that are filled with most popular late western front maps and to spice it up some late eastern and pacific maps plus odd africa map. For example the official mappack 6 is not needed anymore as those maps are NEVER played so don't bother downloading it (pity as those are all very well done maps).

Yes, EA games allows and even encourages (sort of) modding of their game. On condition that the poor sods who actually program the mod (aka the devs) don't get paid or make any money for creating this mod. Which they don't.

Thus, you may download it without fear, and play it for free.
