immersive hud
« on: 11-09-2009, 21:09:52 »
I don't know if this was included in 2.2 as I just used the old file from 2.15 but I'm a player who likes to use the immersive hud. I'm just curious to see how many other players use it and I'd also like to make a couple of suggestions. For new players that don't know immersive hud gets rid of the crosshair and a lot of other stuff on the screen however I have two small suggestions to make it even better in my humble opinion :)

First I'd like to see the kill messages go completely along with the point messages, but I think any teamkill message must remain so I can apologize for my f*** ups. Is this possible? Can you select which type of messages to remove while keeping others? If it's not I'd still be for removing them completely I can just do a general apology on team chat for any future crimes commited at the start of a round :P

Second and this really is minor but it'd be nice if the flag cap bar was redesigned and moved towards the bottom of the screen. It looks a bit odd all by itself still following the curve of the minimap halfway up the screen. A nice wee straight bar near the bottom would be perfect.

So that's it, tell me what you think

I'll make a monkey of myself now:
Immersive HUD means to turn off the HUD completely?
Then you must be a real masochist.
The HUD is delivering info, intel and more info.
That is what actually lets me overview the complete battle by one glimpse.

If the HUD would be removed, I'd spend half of the time with the map open. It would require some fixing like turning it transparent, but it would do the trick.

Wait, I should try that right away. Nice idea.

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

Hey each to their own Dukat

It's why I like this mod you get to keep your hud but I can have a nice clean screen with basic info if I so choose  :)

To answer your question immersive hud doesn't completely turn off the hud you still have the flag cap bar, kill messages, point messages , ammo count & health bar for when your in a vehicle.

I love games who hides the HUD as much as possible

Look at the game "King Kong" by Ubisoft

There they hided the HUD as much as possible and it looked so great

What would you chose?

Ok silly idea time now.

Why couldn't the immersive HUD option be included with the FH2 toolbox, where it could be activated from or has the toolbox gone by the way side now?

Like I said silly idea time, but I'd be keen to use the immersive HUD option, first screeny looks great.

 :)

I like # 1.
But adding a minimap is vital and adding an ammocount.

Incase anyone wants to know:

You put a blank text file called 'immersive-hud.txt' in the FH2 mod folder.

I dunno about anyone else, but your situational awareness goes up by a bajillion points when all you have on screen is your weapon. Not saying that it should be forced onto people, but it really is a refreshing way to play the game.

I still see they player tag names even with the immersive-hud.txt in the Mod/Fh2 folder.
Even tried renderer.drawHug 0.
Anyone got an idea how to remove tag names.

yes it's serverside, I think the server admin can reduce the visibility distance of the tags but never remove them completely [pls correct if wrong].

As for using the renderer.drawhud 0 I'd opt against this as you don't get to see the spawn menu, which means you'll have to type in renderer.draw hud 1 to pick a spawn point, or if you type them both into your command console you can arrow key up & down to select previous messages you have typed... whatever using the renderer.draw method can be a pain in the derriere.

FH2.2 devs created an immersive view which is done using (as Uranium said) a blank text file called 'immersive-hud.txt' and put that sucker in the FH2 mod folder.

As much as I like minimalism in HUD design, I'm not hardcore enough to choose to use it when everyone else get a fully working HUD. More power to the people who do it, I respect that they dare give themselves that handicap, but in my eyes, it's about as tempting as deliberately choosing to spawn in with only half the ammo and equipment as everyone else.

About the minimap and ammo counter - it's amazing how fast you adapt to playing without them, especially the latter.
