In the book don't they kill puppies instead of babies?  Or do they do both?  because honestly I think the puppy story is sadder

If they putted in puppy killing, HBO would be in serious trouble

Still

goddam budget
They did not do the battle of the fist. Just some screams and weapon clattering

They don't just have to kill puppies. They get puppies when they begin their training and they have to raise them and take care of them - and then after two years or so they have to kill them. And killing a slave baby is what completes their training, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this episode. The dragons are looking awesome. The scene with Tyrion and Tywin was really great (better than I remembered it from the book), as was the scene with Kraznys mo Nakloz and Missandei.

One thing I did not like so much was the scenes with Samwell Tarly. I had really hoped they would show the fight on top of the fist of the first men. (Guess they left it out because of the budget. And it's really only in the book as a flashback, to be fair...) Also, I kind of missed Arya and Jaime and Brienne, but I suppose we'll see them next week.

And is it me or does Stannis look a lot different?

Indeed. In the book he sent the ravens D:

Also, in the books the Fist was an old, ruined hill/ring fort. And the location looks waaaaay off. It's almost like they moed the Fist 500 km to the north, in the Lands of Always Winter. In the books it is well within the Hunted Forest, and it didn't start to snow before the Others approached the hill.

The giants looked great. Now if we just could see their mounts ^^

To me Stannis looked like he aged rapidly because of stress. He looked like a defeated man.

That dress that Missandei was wearing. Made me uncomfortable in all the right places.

GAME OF THRONES GETS RENEWED FOR A FOURTH SEASON

http://winteriscoming.net/2013/04/hbo-renews-game-of-thrones-for-a-fourth-season/

Only 2 days after the first episode of S3, HBO renews GOT for a 4th season.
The season started was watched by 4.45 Million viewers. Thats 225 000 more viewers then the most watched episode so far(Season 2 finale)

Compared to the S2 opening episode(3.9 million) thats almost half a million more viewers!

Only 4.45 mil. Is that high by US standards? A football game is watched by 4 mil in the Netherlands alone.

Serie remains excellent. I was under the impression I only watched like 5 minutes when the credits rolled by.
Always interesting to see what gets adapted from the book to the show and what not. I wonder why Sam said he didn't send the Raven, when he did in the book, how does help the plot in the TV serie.
Also it would be more interesting to know that Daenerys pretended not to understand the slave traders language.

4.45 million for a premium cable channel like HBO is pretty good. HBO doesn't really care when people watch it, as long as they watch it. For HBO the combined number of views on all their services is more important. They don't have commercials so the numbers on the first airing aren't as important. It was the Easter weekend though, and of course the Walking Dead season finale was on as well. So next week might get even better numbers.

HBO and HBO on demand alone gave 12 million views for this episode. 4.45M live viewers is very very good for a Premium cable channel. The Show is also a hit international and the merchandise is selling very well. Even the DVD's sell very well.

This is diffrent when compared to AMC's The walking dead. TWD might have 12 million live viewers, AMC does not make that big profit from it. IIRC One Live viewer for AMC ment 0.66 Dollars for AMC, while a single live HBO viewer brought on average 3+ Dollars per viewer.
A show like boardwalk empire has an equal budget simular to TWD and has less "live viewers (On average a 2.5M) yet it brings in more cash then TWD does.

I once found a page from NY times wich had a nice summary off it.
HBO>any other channel in the US

The reason why? They generate cash via prescription. Not advertism. HBO owns any show they broadcast. They can therefor, do whatever they please (For example, AMC had to include the new Hydundai SUV even tough the apocalypse started in 2010)

And well HBO invests in its series alot and gives alot of freedom to the show producers.
