Hello and welcome back to another update of No Man’s Land. For today’s update, we have a new weapon and map to show you.
First, we would like to thank our fans and the people who have been developing the mod. They have been giving for almost a year now, and an extra thank you to the Forgotten Hope 2 development team who are letting us make this minimod.
The development of No Man's land started on the 30th of December, 2009.
First up, one of the most known American weapons, the M1903 Springfield.
The M1903 Springfield-formally the United States Rifle, Caliber .30-06, Model 1903-is an American clip-fed, 5-shot, bolt-action service rifle used primarily during the first half of the 20th century.
It was officially adopted as into the United States military as a common bolt-action rifle on June 21, 1905, and saw service in World War I. It was officially replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the faster-firing, semi-automatic 8 round M1 Garand, starting in 1937. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard-issue infantry rifle during World War II, since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service as a sniper rifle during World War II, Korean War and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War. It remains popular as a civilian firearm, historical collector's piece and as a military drill rifle.

In No Man's land, this rifle will be the weapon of engineers and miners, while the main rifle will remain the M1917 Enfield. This weapon was modeled by Arc.
Next, the map.

Battle of the Argonne Forest was a part of the final Allied offensive of World War I that stretched along the entire western front. The whole offensive was planned by Marshal Ferdinand Foch. The goal: to breach the Hindenburg line and ultimately force the opposing German forces to capitulate. The big September/October Allied breakthroughs across the length of the Hindenburg Line - including the Battle of the Argonne Forest - are now lumped together as part of what is generally remembered as the Grand Offensive by the Allies on the Western front. The Meuse-Argonne offensive also involved troops from France. While France, Britain and its dominion and imperial armies (mainly Canada, Australia and New Zealand), and Belgium contributed to major battles in other sectors across the whole front.

The French and British armies' ability to fight unbroken over the whole four years of the war in what amounted to a bloody stalemate is credited by some historians with breaking the spirit of the German Army on the Western Front. The Grand Offensive, including British, French and Belgian advances in the north along with the French-American advances around the Argonne forest, is in turn credited for leading directly to the Armistice on November 11.
On September 26, the Americans began their strike towards Sedan in the south; British and Belgian divisions drove towards Ghent (Belgium) on the 27th, and then British and French armies attacked across northern France on the 28th. The scale of the overall offensive, bolstered by the fresh and eager but largely untried and inexperienced U.S. troops, signaled renewed vigor among the Allies and sharply dimmed German hopes for victory.

For No Man's land, this map was created by Josh. Keep in mind the renders are still in WIP state.

i love the riverstream and lightsettings nice nice nice!
-
good work ;)
-
Keep it up, i want to try this.
-
Many thanks, both Arc and Josh will be happy :)
And well as I mention everytime, we are recruiting modders (especially mappers and codders) so you can apply here, PM me or NML forum. ;)
-
I am simply flabbergasted at the quality of Arc's work. Mainly because I saw some of his early stuff which was, let's say mediocre at best. And to think that was just over a year ago and now this? Very well done!

Well thats what happens when you work on a team full of modelers, there's always someone to give you feedback, tips or even teach you :)
-
Holy crap! That little Mexican can really model! Nice work Arc! Did not know you had it in you. Nice map as well Josh. Seeing screen shots like that inspire one to fire up the editor again.
-
WOW guys this is really impressive stuff :D
Great work and happy new years
-
Very good work guys.
Keep it up. 8)

He's from northeast Kansas, I thought.
-
I want to try it !!! when it will be ready for playing on it ?
Maps like this should be added in FH2 :P Always wanted an infantry map in forest :P
-
when it will be ready for playing on it ?
When it ll be done :)
And well since we have just 3 active mappers it goes slowly. If you can map, you can help us :D
-

quess why they are working on the bulge ;D ?
But I think for a minimod started one year ago with only Graf saying "hey i want to make this bla bla bla" they did very good progress in the last year. Congratz, even for not stopping!

Speaking of Yotube, you soon gotta make a new vid :)
-
The stream with the rocks looks very nice. Good Work!
-
Yes yes, Well done!
-
Oh, and I forgot to mention-a while ago, we made it possible to look down iron-sights while re-cocking the bolt mechanism. An example of this can be seen in our latest video.
-
where is that video? :P

http://www.youtube.com/user/NoMansLandMod#p/a/u/0/ClOSUdXZAms thats the video warrior was talking about :)
-
Wow! Nice looking map! Good job!
-
You like to show half done Models without Texture?
You like to texture it for them?
Atleast they show something, including snapshots from an entire map. High productivity can not be expected from everyone and surely not from a small mini-mod team.
-
great job. I was first looking on the nml forum for dicussion about this update whitout knowing it was going on here.
great work. do you guy's used the FH2 springfield sniper model or did you made a new model?
how many maps are you planning te make actualie before version 1.0?
keep up the good work ;D

We made a totally new Springfield :) Arc9 has done a really good job on that, even i cant wait to see it textured, and for the maps well it depends we are a bit short on mappers atm so we shall see what happens :/

This is horribly off-topic, but why isn't NML going to be integrated into FH2? I worry about the community getting fragmented.

You need FH2 to play NML. We still load half of our materials from FH2 folders but the servers will only be shown in NML. There is tho 1 sad point in that, always when FH2 releases an update we need to fix allot of bugs what comes to NML from that. So we need to release an update just to get the files clean from the files FH2 has changed and its hard to integrate it to the FH2 folders because we are working on the mod a bit too large scale and changing basicly everything. So that would mean we would have to rename all our work what we have done to the FH2 files. It's just allot easier to work with separate folders than both in the same.

I understand from the modding point of view it is a lot of work. But in the long run your work will be played a lot more, and FH2 will become even more popular. With all the great work being done here it would really make me sad to see one server with 15 people :(
-
Too bad. I´d love to see NML included into FH2, like the different "Factions" in PR, where independent teams develop different armies, maps etc. and when they´re dne they´ll be included into the mod, so both sides profit from it.

Agreed. Although I'm not for copying and pasting PR into FH2, I do agree that they do a lot of things right, and one big success has been their community factions. I think integrating all these great mods into FH2 will make everyone benefit.
-
Well that what said Roni isnt final, so we could have it like you say ;)

very nice :D
-
I would like for this to happen, but the final decision is with the FH development team to include NML with FH2 releases.
-
We probably aren't up to their standards.

The content you showed tells, that you are doing a great job

Being in one of those faction dev teams (Norwegian forces) i can say tht its a pretty effective way to develop a mod. We make all our own map and statics and models and whenever we need help we can ask or borrow the rest of the other factions developers or PR devs.
-
But integrating would just mean allot of limits on the modding, we would only need to do models and maps so everything what we would like to change from the FH2 files would mean we would have to make copys from those files.
More time would of gone to renaming files than actually working on all the other projects and NML is a bit too large scale to be integrated because we are talking about a totally different war. It's nothing like in PR where they are just working on different factions what mean that most of their work only goes to weapons and maps.
But im not against the idea of integration that would only mean that it would take a bit too much time more before we could release anything and im not that sure who would do the job from our team because it isn't just dropping the files in there and it would just magically work.
-
First off, I have no clue of the amount of work, that you do, and would have to do to to integrate it, because I am no Modder.
BUT I can predict the future. This would split up the community as some others already said.
I know, that tis would be some extra time and would cause us gamers longer to wait and also would cause you to bring much more effort into the mod, but in longterm it will pay off.
Then you will probably have a server with 64 people fighting in the trenches, but otherwise there will be around 16 :-\
-
Well there is a way to do this, but it maybe affects the fh2 a bit too much. We can make a folder calld mods inside the fh2 and make a folder calld nml in there and set all the nml zip files what is needed then have fh2 to read those files from there trhu the clientarchives.con and serverarchives.con.
That would mean nml would be a mod inside a mod and it wouldn't change anything from the actual fh2 content so when a nml map is loading the map would read the zip files from the fh2/mods/nml directory.
How this could affect in fh2 could be that it would possibly slower the map loading times because then fh2 would have allot more files to read from. But that method is really easy to make and really easy for the players to install. I haven't yet tested this method to see if it actually works 100%.

As long as the slowdown is minor I don't think anyone would mind. Look at the PR load times for example.
-
I think we did have some minor problem at F|H with the addon back in time, atleast I did that after I had loaded minimod map I had to restart the game to run regular map or the game would crash
-
I noticed that it is possible to fire a gun with a bayonet. Is it also possible to stab without changing weapon (on melee weapon)?
And I like the blood on melee weapon ;D
And obviously maps ;)
Can you predict supposed time of release the mod?

You have to change weapon, but there isn't any animation so it is instantanious. I think there is a key that you can tap to change to bayonet mode instantly.

Yep, as said Josh. Rifleman kit (which will have just rifle and bayonet) will be able to do this, one of my favourite things, because the switch is instantiously. Other classes will have it FH2 way, some will have spades, etc.
And well, the minimod will be done, when it ll be done, but well... it will be soon :)
-
Ok, thx for answers :)
-
GJ guys I can't wait for this mod! :D
-
You guys should just get with the French Hope team.
Hell some of the maps they are working on were major battles in WW1...Somme for example.
;)
-
The battle of the Somme?
It did not know French hope was working that map.
I thougth they where making the maps, Stonne, operation Dynamo and Sedan.
Perhaps some weapons or objects can be shared. Some WWI weapons where still used in the beginning of WW2.
-
You guys should just get with the French Hope team.
no. We may, at the most, swap some models or maps or something like that.
-
sorry, but no
