Getting lost in the middle of the battlefield without knowing how you can win or what to do, just randomly shooting other guys marked as "enemy" or those who are hostile to you.

Suddenly the round ended with one of the side winning, but you don't care, because you are happy.

BF1942 is amazing, and truly a milestone in gaming world.

getting bombed for the first time by a flying fortress. Words can not describe the feeling I had in those 3 seconds I saw the 8 bombs fall and destroy half my team  ;D, or the first time I lay down behind debris with  my rifle praying that the tiger passing just 2 meters away from me doesnt see me. Battlefield 1942 was a unique game, its sad they dont make game like that now :P.

I played this one after BF2 and Vietnam and still found it to be much fun to play.
Loved the huge content and the awesome main theme.
Hated the bots for killing my plane with a mounted MG42 just before I could bomb their tank :P

I did the math once. With only my recorded hours, I have, in the last ten years, played Battlefield 1942 on average 20 minutes a day, everyday. It has had a profound effect on my life, both in positive and negative ways, and even to this day the theme song remains a reminder of my child hood. Hell, I even met my best friend in a clan that played the game, and I don't know what I'd do now without them.

Thanks to Battlefield 1942, I know now how to use Photoshop, 3ds Max, Sony Sound Forge, Sony Vegas, and a whole host of other products.

But far from being a shining symbol of my childhood, the meeting place for my greatest friend in the world, and a learning platform for so many things, Battlefield 1942 installed, and has forever kept my ending interest with military history. First with FH1, and now with FH2, and other games.

I recently bought the entire Anthology again for 12 dollars, so many years after its release, and still play whenever I get the chance. I keep all the mods installed, in hopes that maybe somebody will be playing FH1, Pirates, or Desert Combat, and I still to this day, think Battlefield 1942 is the BEST battlefield game ever released.

That explains a lot. Looks like Codename Eagle is already using the same engine as Battlefield later.

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

Codename Eagle was Refractor 1.  BF1942 to BF2142 are Refractor 2.

Codename Eagle was Refractor 1.  BF1942 to BF2142 are Refractor 2.

BF1942 and Vietnam were still made using Refractor 1. BF2 and such are Refractor 2.
