Surrender/retreat option
« on: 02-10-2010, 13:10:38 »
The fact is FH2 can have a very slow bleed system, and when one team gets owned it can last forever. This oftenly kills a server for the night, if not for much much longer...

So, here is a suggestion : one team gets stuck at the begining of the map (like FoT) or at the end (like Brest). It is not realy that the map itself is bad, but rather that the teams are uneven, or the moral is low and the men aren't fighting as they should anymore. In that case, why not just give it up and move on to the next map ?

I'm thinking of an option in the reinforcement screen that would start a vote to surrender to the ennemy (like Brest) or retreat (like FoT). The result would be the loss of all tickets for the team that accept it and so the victory of the other, with a special mention on the victory screen saying the ennemy has surrendered or retreated.

Now, to prevent this from being overused, it would need a big majority like 3/4 of the team, and it probably should be one chance per player to avoid screen spam... But all in all I think it would save a lot of servers for the mod...

What do you think ?

patch :
- the winning team could also ask the other team to surrender.
- the winning team could deny the surrender of the other team.
- it should be once every ten minutes instead of once per player.

This can't be implemented for the russians though: NO SURRENDER! NO RETREAT! NOT ONE STEP BACKWARDS COMRADES!

I think it is actually a half decent idea, assuming it is not difficult to implement.

Oh, and something I forgot : one team could also ask the other team to surrender...

Also nice for situations when there is no admin, only one player left on other side and he is either AFK or just avoiding contact with enemy. We once played alam halfa and captured all flags on very first rush, leaving tons of tickets for brits. However one brit remained and when we finally after 20 minutes of searching found him, he was driving circles with jeep in that huge canyon on western part of map. Everyone were pissed off and half the people left server.

Well who is going to want to surrender, it will almost never happen.

That said I still think it is a neat idea. :)

If this can be implemented, I hope it is also possible to trigger it in the situations you want it to be triggered. Otherwise you will get "Surrender now!" messages 1 minute after roundstart.

If possible, this would be a nice add-on.

actually, in the beginning of the war some Russian soldiers DID surrender (this is why the no step backward order was given out by Stalin)

I'd like this option very much- it would really speed the bleedout up!

a) either map map is broken and it needs to be changed to give a team more reenforcements to push through after say 10 minutes of not moving. ex give the ami's an extra tank or something on best if they cant get one of the first line flags.

or

b) your team sucks and cant figure out teamwork and deserves to suffer.

I usually lean toward b.  Server can always enable map vote, but they fail most of the time.

I was going to say that.....Though I was going to be a snide prick about it.  Good job taking the high road Phil.  :)

Does mouse 2 still go to iron sights or kneel?

I'm not sure the French would even get to the battlefield before they surrender.

"France surrenders" -jokes don't work on a forum where most people actually have at least some knowledge in military history.
