Developer chad509 has been hard at work in the animation department, by not only creating new animation sets, but updating older ones as well. Here's a short montage of what you can expect to see in the next patch.

Damn the "new" Tommy gun looks good! Insta new favorite! Awesome sights.
P08 also looks really good, maybe I'll finally kill someone with it. New animations are also beast, changing the firing mode looks a lot better. I like details like that, they really make a difference.
-
Shouldn't the handle on top of the Tommy gun be pulled back after attaching a new magazine to load a round into the chamber before you can fire? On the Sturmgewehr and M1 Carbine the handle is pulled back after loading a new magazine.
Very fluid and natural animations though. Very nice.

Its pulled before you attach a new magazine, its fires from an open bolt.

very nice indeed. I wonder if the 3p animations for Bazooka were reworked as well.

The Thompson fire from open bolt, meaning that when the weapon is operational and ready to fire, the moving parts are in back position. Then the trigger is pulled, the bolt moves forward catches the first cartridge from the magazine.
After the last shot the bolt cycles from back to front (unless you manage to release the trigger on time) and it stays there. The you just pull it back and attach a new magazine just like in the video.

that's actually the new M1 Bazooka for north afrika.
-
Ah cool. Learned something new today then. :)
-
At 45seconds, the way he pull the the locking mecanism with his hole hand looks a bit wierd to me. Maybe it's because I never fired a weapon of my life, but I don't think that if I had to that IRL I don't think I will my hole hand to pull such a small piece.
-
I think its just easiest way to do it, without having to twist your hand/gun. Pulling it just with fingers might be uncomfortable.
What kind of Op.Cobra version is this? Looks weird.

2.45 version ;)

Nope, however the bazooka M9 was positioned rearwards so its not sticking out as much.

Technically, he is pulling it back with the side of his palm, which is indeed what you do.
-
Why no FHMOD channel? :(
-
exactly, this kind of stuff should be hosted by FHMOD channel.

Really fluid animation! Great job Chad! One request maybe you can alter the crawl animation while you're editing them. (similar to what Archi had done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvM4lDsY2Ew)

Hey folks, I finally got my public forum account going. ;D

oh yeah, I would like to see that and new running animations would be great too (also similiar to what Archi had done:

what happened to all the vegetation at allied airfield? :-\

Awesome video.
Keep up the great work chad509 .

Awesome. But just an idea for one Animation, shown in the video on 1:13:
You guys who ever really shot with pistol may know that you would also take your left hand to the weapon to aim and increase the stability. I don't know if it's possible but I think adding this would make it more realistic. Just an idea ;D

Thought exactly the same

Actually, it would not. In 30's and 40's soldiers trained to shoot with one hand, so the animation is correct.
I actually find firing with two hands somewhat awkward... I prefer the one handed Olympic pistol style. :P
-
Keepin´it classy, Thorondor? ;)
I used the P8 once, one-handed and the results were rather mixed. Using pistols two-handed is much more stable, but as Thorondor pointed out, using pistols two-handed is a rather new concept (just like the whole "trigger discipline" idea) and during WW2 soldiers used pistols one-handed.
Anyway, nice video! The dev blog is a neat idea, too, since it gives the forum users some ideas about what the devs are actually working on and of course some well-deserved publicity.
-
I love the idea and I love the animations!

i see a like button but no AWESOME button?

Oh, ok. Didn't know that. Strange. Somehow.

Alright, everybody as he wishes. But I just can't imagine you hit something over a long range... Anyway, how I said, it was just an idea.
-
Many of the safety procedures soldiers are trained to do today were not high priority back then either. Like pointing guns to the ground ;)
-
And not that you will even try to hit something above 50 meters with a pistol anyways.
-
exept one thing was key in the british army back then=never ever EVER drop a stengun when a magazine is inserted with ammo
-
Yeah but before they found that out they threw around their stens like beach volleyballs.

because that's the only logical thing a smart person would do with a fully loaded weapon amirite?

Chad509 nice animation ;)

Ummm... a properly designed and manufactured firearm should discharge only if there is a constant force pulling the trigger back, no matter the amount of shaking, throwing, dropping, jumping on top of it, smashing it to the wall, or whatever else you could come up with. However, if you have the need to construct an automatic weapon as cheaply as possible from as simple and as few components as possible, then you might have to compromise on something, like the possibility of an accidental firing... :P

Wow, nice whine. First whine about the fact that it isn't there, and when it comes it is "too late". Sorry, but you sound like you can never have enough, ungrateful, blegh.
Also, you act like FH2 players left because of the lack of this kind of threads. Maybe it was factor for some, but I think certain nerdfantasy games are more guilty.
what happened to all the vegetation at allied airfield? :-\
This isn't the definitive version:Note: everything is subject to change

Amazing work, chad! :o
I love the stg44 reload and the bazooka animations! ;D
-
and yes the animations feel as good as they look :D
its controvers if pointing guns to the ground is that good.
like ricochet (querschläger not sure if the word that leo gave me is good) or when you walk that you hit the soldier infront of you in his foot.
----
Good to see that this topic was made, I myself started an attemped some time ago, cant find it though atm, otherwise I would copy paste the stuff inside here. :)

Point your barrel down and risk hitting your friend's foot.
Point your barrel up and risk hitting your friend's face.
Easy choice.
-
no as you point it up in another way then pointing down.
pointing up is more like barrel straight into the air, without an angle.
-
When you mess around on the battlefield, jumping in and out of APC doors, building windows etc. your barrel is going to be moved around a lot. Better to keep it pointed down as much as possible.
-
Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. ;)

Animator to animator...the only 'poor' things I've ever seen in FH2 are two things:
The floaty body sub-groups of meshes on some of the weapons, most particularly the bolt-action rifles (k98) which appear to be shifting away from each other and the mesh at times.
Also, the Composition-B and Satchel Charges are pretty bad, considering half the time you don't even see your hands holding the item during a 'throw animation' and it is particularly hard to judge where your character is going to throw them because of that. You want to look down, but you can't.
Keeping those items on the viewable portion of the screen...or...for much longer before they are thrown will do wonders for the animations and improve the perception of the player as to how the throw will turn out.
Could also be an opportunity to screw with players and have the head camera follow your hands down to the object in the player's hands, momentarily making you miss what is going on in front of you increasing the danger factor.
Call of Duty does things like this quite nicely, fire one of them up and try to find an example of a satchel charge throw.
**Went ahead and uploaded a satchel throw from CoD:UO. Im sure the other COD's will have different variations.
http://youtu.be/5tDfMQpVbqU
Note that you can see the satchel the whole time and that a cord is pulled to arm it. Tossing it like that doesn't seem very FH2'ish but a flick of the wrist sideways could be a better option and make a shorter distance throw seem more plausible, as if you were throwing a frisbee.

Question: Are 3p animations on things like AT guns and fixed Machine Guns possible?
-
How come noone noticed the most obvious change yet? ;D

That the minimap is a square instead of a circle?
-
I'm never watch on minimap ... ( mortar shell in the way ... oops ) ;D . I hope there be gonna option to make that smaller ?
Cant wait for 2.45 , good work guys 8)

This sounds like FH2's Geballte Ladung. So maybe make the satchels more like the Geballte?
-

How do you know which flags are yours and which are taken by the enemy? And as a tanker i think it is very important to check the map for spotted tanks. Saved my ass a lot of times.
I really like the quadratic minimap. I was always anoyed that the round one makes it impossible to see the map at the border or in the corners of the map.
-
Toddel isn't on the staff list at the end of the video. No longer a dev?
-
Im always check main map first , when someone spot something or to check what flags left . Mini map is for me only to see what is close to me 8)
When im on arty , im always use main map to check where i have some spots . Its always work ...

Absolutely outstanding work, as always! One important action is missing from all weapons however, which I personally think has to be added: Operation of the safety switch. It always annoys me when, for instance on the Colt M1911, the hammer gets cocked and then the weapon is ready to be fired. In my opinion two hands should be used to fire handguns in FH2, since that is the way it's usually done in reality, because pistols are not that accurate and one would really like to use them as effective as possible. The hammer cocking animation should be replaced by the safety switch animation, because handguns are designed to be used for entirely defensive use or as a lifesaver in case your rifle fails to operate properly/jams. In those situations, every second counts a lot, and you would want to get many rounds down range, hoping to wound the attacker; and going into single action takes about two seconds and is therefore rarely being used in battle. Also, I would be strongly suggesting a proper crawling animation (just like we currently have them for machine guns), because it would add a truly priceless amount of immersion. As for the running animation with bayonet attached, I noticed that pretty much every common wealth soldier held his rifle upright when running, in order not to wound his comrades which may run next to him and to manouver much better in close quarters, where there's not much space in order not to hit any walls or other obstacles surrounding him. Another reason for why they had the muzzle pointing 90° up was that you could better accelerate the rifle in order to seriously wound the enmy with the first hit (swing the weapon backwards, then slam it forward with full force). Please note that the the U.S. Army instructed new recruits to use bayonets that way in basic training, too.
Again thank you so much for this great update!

I spy a sticky bomb kit with the stick mag Thompson.

At first I read "smoke grenade", but you're right, it's a sticky bomb ;)

Remember folks, this video was shot on my personal DEV Build of FH2. Kits are mismanaged for testing purposes and demonstration purposes only. ;)
