Off-Topic / Re: Review the latest movie you have seen

I binged all 8 episodes or whatever in like 4 days. Can't wait for a 2nd season. Those kids are quite the actors too.

You know that's not binging, right? It's just 2 episodes a day, that's like 1 movie.  ;)

But recently saw 'Hell Or High Water'.  ****
Great movie, great actors. On the surface it's nothing special, but it's all about the execution. Really liked how stripped of all fluff it was: just 2 bankrobbers, 2 cops and a good script. Written by the guy who wrote Sicario and starring a.o. Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine. Well worth checking out, one of my favorites of this year.

Also: 'The Girl On The Train' ***
Good Hitchockian thriller, that tries a little too hard to be this year's 'Gone Girl', but solid enough. Emily Blunt plays a alcoholic commuter who gets involved in a possible murdercase involving a couple she's been spying on from the train every day. The more she delves into it, the more she starts to doubt her own reality (because, you know, alcoholism), but slowly she starts to unravel the mystery. It's all about Blunt in this movie (first proper lead role I've seen her in) and she more than pulls it off. Great actress.

Shouldn't this map be filed under "Germany" instead of "Eastern Front"? ;-)

But anyway:
Not sure yet how the new ticket system works: Played this map only once just now, but the Russians took last flag, then quick ticket countdown started for Germans. Germans retake last flag, but fast ticket count was still in effect. My question: what's the point of recapping the last flag if you can't win this way as Germans?

The usual case of Tobruk syndrome I'd say. Let's not draw any hasty conclusions just yet, even thought very observant first impressions are extremely healthy.

Yeah, this is definitely the new Tobruk, or Hurgten, or Omaha of this release ;-) Gonna take a while to get used to for everyone. I know I already cursed it to death just now as an attacking Russian. I mean, who forgets to bring arty to an invasion?! ;-)

Also, no sniper kits for russians (to snipe PaK gunners) ?

There is a sniper pick up kit at Schoolhouse. And one on attic at Stables. Well, those I found after one round on this map, could be more.

Went over to a friend yesterday to borrow X-Com: Enemy Unknown, this seemed like a proper moment to dust off my PS3 and finally get into that.
Besides that, I just got way more Buffy viewing done this weekend than I expected. (started rewatching the whole thing last month)

Since the chances of me running into one of above-mentioned modders in real life are rather slim, I'd just like to say thank you on this here forum. So, thank you!

Suggestions / Re: aa gun precision and damage

Same here. The problem isn't with the AA guns itself, but the fixed locations.

Operation Cobra, for instance, makes that crystal clear. US need only one pilot who's familiar with the map to make german AA effectively useless. Also on this map it would help loads if they took the shields off the 88's so they can do what they're actually designed for. But even better would indeed be replacing the fixed vierlings with mobile ones.

Not to single out Cobra again, but I really hope they fix that map this way. Was one of my favorites but not so sure anymore.

Gaming / Re: Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Sounds interesting. This is sort of what I wanted to be honest. I love war games that have a serious tone, but use a very comic book/graphic novel feel to them. In a way the characters become more distinguished from one another, and you fall in love with them easier. Hopefully this turns out well.

That's one of the main reasons that, for me, Valkyria Chronicles is one the best World War 2 strategy games I've ever played, and it's not even "officially" set during World War 2. :-) But just the alt-history steampunk-y comicbook angle makes you care so much more about your squad while at the same time never belittling the impact of war.

But this Valiant Hearts looks really interesting, thanks for this. Will keep an eye out for it, even though I already got a major backlog of still-to-play PS3 games friends have been lending to me (and yes, I have yet to finish Valkyria even, got stuck near the end...).

Just saw Lucy yesterday, cool movie. If Luc Besson ever made a philosophical arthouse picture I guess this is it. Expected a bit more of a straight up action flick, but kinda liked what I got. It's still no Leon, but hey, what is? ;-)

But came here to post this as a tribute to mister Williams, who despite making a ton of sub par movies, never failed to make me laugh:
http://www.businessinsider.com/robin-williams-kuwait-2014-8

"Williams was there for a USO tour for the soldiers, most of whom were either headed to Iraq or supporting combat troops already there. In the middle of a bit, Williams — and the thousands of troops in front him — hear a trumpet sound."

Is the punkbuster issue (and resulting kick) I'm getting after installing 2.48 related to this? I don't want to open up a whole new thread since I might've missed something obvious. I did install the latest punkbuster fix last night but was too tired to further look into it.

Thanks for this. Was on the verge of checking my PC for lumps, when I thought about maybe first checking the FH forum. Patience will be had. :-)

Or The Wire.

It's been a while but if I remember correctly in The Wire non of the main criminals get away with it.

If you don't like a show, don't try to like it. It's the second best series I ever watched, doesn't mean you should like it. Maybe you're over-analyzing BrBa.

I wasn't trying, I was merely watching a show that the whole world seems to think is the best thing around, and I just didn't see it and am kind of puzzled by what people seem to think is amazing nowadays. I wasn't over-analyzing as well: I went in firmly believing I would end up loving this show, as I've had with many critically acclaimed shows before it. But something seems to have changed in TV land. Due to the currect (social) media landscape shows tend to get hyped up to insane levels, but a lot of that acclaim is simply hearsay and people repeating opinions, just to be heard (The Curse Of The Blogger).

Last year I've watched the 3 Current Greats (BE, BB and GoT) because they seemed like entertaining shows and beforehand each already had multiple reasons for me to become a solid fan (Cranston, dragons, Scorcese, Headey, Buscemi, Dinklage, etc.). I wasn't impressed with any of them. Only GoT eventually managed to really connect with me (although even in late-season 3 it still manages to infuriate me occasionally. Red Wedding, grrrrr). I dunno, I guess I miss a certain emotional depth or something.

And wait, over-analyzing? Me? Have you read the posts on this thread? Walt does something Walt-y in a new episode and the same evening this whole board lights up. ;-)

Oh, and just curious (and for context), if BB is second fave, what is your favorite show?

Regarding the ending, the shadow of the Production Code is long indeed.

I would be willing to pay real money for watching, if a movie or series ended with the not-so-sympathetic criminal getting away with it all.

Watch The Shield.

So I watched Breaking Bad all the way through to the finale the last couple of weeks (finished last night). I was really psyched to begin this show as apparently it was 'the best thing ever' (and I loved Cranston in Malcolm In The Middle), but I was left completely underwhelmed. Not to play Trolly McTrollytroll or anything here, but I seriously don't get what the fuss was about, and came here to get some more insight into what people see in this show.

It just wasn't that good in my opinion. A lot of uneven writing, logic defying coincidences and hollow, annoying characters. But maybe that was the point of this show, and I missed the memo. And I'm not a cynical TV watcher or anything, but I came close to quitting multiple times every season, out of sheer annoyance. Hung in there because of the good bits (thank god for Saul and Mike), friends that kept telling me it only got better and better (it didn't) and hoping the finale would be worth it (solid, but nothing special). It did pick up a bit the last season, but for every smart thing this show did, it did at least 2 dumb things. For every cool character there were multiple annoying ones (Pinkman topping the cast there, since when is being a 12 year old whiny bitch considered to be cool? I hope they have Emmy's for 'Most Annoying Character'), etc.

Sadly it never rose above The Shield-meets-Weeds premise it promised (both of which were way better shows, even though Weeds lost its way in the end). I never got what was so groundbreaking and critically acclaimed about it, just a clear case of 'seen it all before'. Which isn't a bad thing, but to me the biggest minus was that I just didn't believe Walt's motivations and actions concerning Jesse (and to lesser extent his family), their relation only seemed to exist to keep the story going. In the end I found myself rooting for the lawyer and the neonazis, but again, maybe that was the point, I don't know.

That said, Cranston does deserve all the praise of course (along with Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks), the show was beautifully filmed and it had good music. But the worldwide reverence for this show baffles me.
