"New" (or should we say finished) Cobra, Bardia + new game modes.

epic map is EPIC!!! ;D aside from the fact that I'll be gone all weekend when this releases :P I am crazy excited for this patch. Once again the mapping and art department have blown me away. From the screens this map looks so different from the other NA maps and not too green to resemble any normady maps. Perfect for giving that feeling of fighting on a new tunisian front. ;)

Also, is this map regular conquest? seems like it would play out just fine that way (judging by the minimap)

or is it tweaked a little like the counter attack mode on Sidi Rezegh? i.e. americans get a ton more tanks or something once a certain # of flags are captured?

The map had a German attack and American counter-attack phase.  The German attack lasts until they have captured Kern's Crossroads, whereupon the US team receives reinforcements for their counter-attack.

To win as Germans, you need to capture all the flags and then hold off the US counter-attack.  You need to do this quickly, because the longer the attack lasts, the more tickets the US will be given for their counter-attack.  To win as the Americans, you must either hold off the initial attack, or if that fails, you must succeed in the counter-attack and recapture Kern's Crossroads and Sidi Bou Zid.

Love the new cactus vegitation. Absolutely gorgeous! Great job devs and beta-testers. Looking forward for the 2.45 Teaser trailer (Go Kubador!) and obviously playing the game on Friday!  ;D

Only one African American :P map? 2.46 better come sooner and before Eastern Front.

Well now we have the content so we could make another one, however it would need to bring something new in terms of game play, so if you can think of a truly awesome map then post in the suggestion forum. We're unlikely to spend time on a map only to recycle content in it for the sake of usage. First release in a new setting brings fourth the content, a second one needs to bring game play.

However in this case, Sidi has both a new game play experience + lots of new content, same can be said for the other maps in the patch as well :)

Will the American plane have bombs? And will it be avaliable from the beginning or in the counterattack?

Hopefully the Tiger wont become this useless piece of bombing prctice target is one Mareth line.

The map looks awesome, I am so excited, its unbelievable. Less new maps, yeah, but the hell its finally coming out!!!!!!! Woooooooh
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: Ts4EVER on 10-07-2012, 11:07:13
IIRC the Americans start with a spitfire and then gain a fighter bomber for the counter attack phase. The german planes stop spawning I think, but don't quote me on it.

The updates says that there where tigers involved in the attack, but there isnt a picture of one released. Or am I wrong. Of course we all want a picture! :D

Another thing will we get an entry for the new map in the Map section of the Fh website, as we have it for Keren? (please!!!) Or could you tell us what the armys start with at the beginning?
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: Ts4EVER on 10-07-2012, 11:07:15
Can't tell you what the amis start with, cause they got some as of yet undisclosed hardware (will be shown soon I believe). The Germans have a Tiger, all in all 4 PIII of the latest versions, a 6 wheeled scout car with 2cm gun (forgot the number), a Panzer IIf, a Panzer IVF2 and some different types of aa trucks. Almost all German tanks have been re textured to a darker camo, so they fit better into the new terrain.

Many thanks for this Info TS! Are you sure its a six wheeled scout car not 8 wheeled? That would probably be a Sdkfz 231.

The new harderware for the Americans is certainly a M10 tankdestroyer with a new awesome desert camo, cant think of anything else. And since the Americans need something to stop that tiger that would make perfectly sence.

Agreed the skins of the Pnazer IV F2 and tiger are way to shiny for this map, maybe the Tiger will look like the one in bovington tank museum. Maybe we will see a devblog about the new skins :D

P.S.: another piciture of the new map can be found at the Fh facebook page.

Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: hyperanthropos on 10-07-2012, 12:07:46
Hm Lucky your guess seems even more realistic

Wikipedia quote:
The GMC M3 was the most widely-deployed tank destroyer in U.S. tank destroyer battalions during the campaign in Tunisia in late 1942 and early 1943, and was prominent during the battles of Sidi Bou Zid, Kasserine Pass, and El Guettar.

But did the americans already have M10s?

Well like TS said axis will have mobile AA

Right probably the Sdkfz 9 with Flakvierling, but you kow I have a Trauma form all the times the Tiger ends up completly useless on Mareth line, but maybe this map has been changed too.
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: LuckyOne on 10-07-2012, 12:07:08

But did the americans already have M10s?

They did but those don't really classify as "new hardware" do they? Besides IIRC WaW had a great custom model of M3 that devs could have reskinned and incorporated into the mod.

You have to take the counter attack part on this map quite literal. US will be pressed to fight back if they are pushed to the last line.
Is our PR department going to spread the word about that ?

Also this patch is much and much more then these three maps. Current maps have been revamped, night maps introduced as TS wrote in the Dev blogs. It will be so friggin cool.

First time you hear the Hawker Hardy you will want to keep those hankies near ...

I made this for the ingame ad thing, to replace the much hated "2.45 Coming Soon" image, but due to technical problems it can't be changed until after release. So it doesn't go to waste I will post it here:

You could also use this in advertisement posts on other forums.

AWSOME M3 Halftrack 8) and Killroy on the front of the TD :) perfect. I'm gonna try to get my hands on that for sure

it also looks in the screens like the gunner in the M3 is a little more concerned about his life then his friends in Normandy, who seem to wanna make themselves as much of a target as possible in the M3A1 ;D

also, the counter attack game mode on this map sounds awsome

Will any of the 'Road To' updates give us a re-cap of the changes coming with 2.45? I know it has lots of good stuff in it. Honestly though, there have been so many teaser announcements over time I can't keep it straight in my head anymore.

The changelog should be a good place to see all this.

I was thinking more along the lines of a changelog for dummies...  ;)

A nice clear presentable changelog needs to be made. All there is at the moment is the automatically generated changelog, which contains over a 1200 changes in chronological order, with significant changes like the addition of new maps, but also insignificant changes like the optimization of the LODs of some model. Important changes are also missing from it, it contains spelling errors and there is no consistency in the use of language between developers.

But might be I have some time tomorrow to take a look at it.

^ This. I'm far from a history buff compared to many on these forums, so was the springfield still used fairly often in the tunisian campaign? or were the soldiers on operation torch equiped with mostly Garands?
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: Lightning on 11-07-2012, 01:07:10
Most soldiers carried M1 Garands, so this is the primary rifle of the rifleman kit. The scout and engineer have the M1903A1, assault carries the M1928A1, Support the M1918A2, anti-tank the M1 Bazooka and the NCO can choose between M1928A1 and M1 Carbine.

I don't feel like starting an entire new topic because of this so I'm gonna ask it here: are there any suppression effects/shaders in the mod right now? I played some FH2 today and apart from the wounded bleeding shader, I don't think I got anything when bullets were flying right by my head.
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: Matthew_Baker on 11-07-2012, 03:07:48
there is a suppression shader, makes your screen kinda blurry and does have a nice effect, although only mg and light mgs can suppress you, rifles etc. cant.

I personally wish this was changed but iirc it was to give ppl more incentive to use the light mgs for support.

AFAIK, for a long time now, there has been a problem with ATI graphic cards, where the suppression effects just won't work.

AFAIK, for a long time now, there has been a problem with ATI graphic cards, where the suppression effects just won't work.

It is also occuring on Nvidia graphic cards. If I remember correctly the suppression shaders stopped working when the 2.4 version was released.
Back on topic: The M3 variants are simply looking great! Great job. I really can't wait to use the 75mm cannon version. I think that in real life this vehicle would have had some serious issues with recoil or was it fired only from a parked position? (with chocks placed behind wheels)

The vehicle weighs 9100KG. It can shoot on the run without recoil problems.

As for suppression, its a bugged feature due to a variety of reasons, consider it scrapped though it may still exist for some.

Will AT ahalftrack have special ammo and can it damge a Tiger frontally with regular ammo?

Also do the Americans have another At gun besides the small 37mm one?

Thanks

Not special ammo exactly, however they were in the transition period between AP and APC shells. APC shells are designed specifically for penetrating face hardened German armour. You will find both on Sidi Bou Zid, however APC shells are not special ammo they were standard issue. Your vehicle will come equipped with either AP or APC, not both.
We only compensate for this in FH2, we don't do calculations that differ for face hardened armour.
So the 37mm can penetrate up to 50mm armour in Sidi Bou Zid. This is also introduced for some other guns such as the 2 pounder, which is given APC ammo for late desert maps which penetrates 50mm, and only 40mm in early war.
For the Tiger, you will need several sideshots with the 75mm to take it out. There's also explosives to take it on.

I'm not about the Grant, but on the Lee the turret has normal and gunsight cameras like normal tanks (I think this is the case for the Lee turret's turret and for the Grant turret too).

Do the Germans already have Mg42 on this new Africa map? And have the Shermans in Africa (only in Africa) been rebalaced?
I jsut checked it again offline with a Panzer III J early you need 3 shots Panzergranate 40 (!) to the front of a Sherman to kill it.
With a Panzer III J late you need 2 shots Panzergranate 40 (!) to front of a Sherman to kill it.

Also with a Panzer IV F2 you need two shots with regular ammo besides very(!) close ranges, also to a Sherman to the front. A Sherman on the other hand con alwasy one-shot you.

An other thing that keeps bothering me is the blocked freelook to the rear in Pnazer IVs and Panzer III J early by the commander cupola.

Fh2.45 Magnet Link (http://magnet:?xt=urn:btih:24847731C9F4E00BDFC5BBD252E136BE9F68D129) - works just as well as a .torrent file except it takes a few seconds to find peers. Good thing is it doesn't require any .torrent files to be uploaded/downloaded ;)

EDIT: Works except your forums format it in some weird way...

No bot support?  :(

Oh well,
Trailer looks amazing,
One of their best!

sadly focus was not AI this time around.

However, some vehicles that previously lacked correct bot support like the quad .50, Crusader AA, Gabeltladung, the wespe, etc have it now. Not to mention ai support for all the new vehicles and weapons as well as Keren with full working ai support and all the correct vehicles.

Also, Bastogne has bot support and Hurtgen forest (Infantry only though) and Vossenack have been added to the official build.

Also ESAI is now a part of the official FH2.

This is all work done by Kev4000 (Vehicle AI and Keren), Void (ESAI), and Ballard44 (Navmesh of 3 maps)

Seriously no matter how ugly that map was it was the only proper NA tanking map where you could properly use terrain to your advantage and have interesting tank shootouts (Yes I know Axis won't agree  :P)...

YAY!!!!!! Changelog for dummies!

I forgot about the Bishop, can't wait to FINALLY drive a functionalBishop. Don't ask me why, but I love that boxy mobile artillery.

Of course the truth of the matter is that, like many old-timers here my priorities have changed. In 2004, I would have stayed in my apartment and spent the whole weekend playing after release day, even if it is the middle of summer.

Now, I have a wife and 2yr old daughter. It is actually more important to me that I spent my summer weekends with them. (beach, parades, picnics, etc.) Much as I would like to, I probably won't play at all on release day, or the weekend after. (Maybe a little after 9pm PST if anyone is still on.)

Speak for yourself, Supercharge is one of my favorite FH2 maps, and Mareth is very well done. I'm glad they both got some love in the changelog so the servers will have incentive to play them.

Op. Aberdeen was the only map in FH2 that felt out of place. It LOOKED and played like a test map (which iirc it originally was). Even tho it was hated by many I'll be sad to see it go. Hopefully the devs are just doing some Major tweaking with it and maybe well see it in a different incarnation in a future release.

I think 'bunny hopping' was still possible anyway, it never worked very well but you could always jump when you were out of stamina you would just always not be able to sprint afterwards, this shouldn't effect it that much. But I am curious to know how this played out in beta testing and what the reasoning was behind it.

Edit: maybe there should be a separate changelog disscussion thread seeing as ppl have alot of questions... not saying the devs should have to answer all of them but its aroused alot of feedback

How large is the El Alamein map? 2x2km? I've sprinted over 2 km in full field gear, never mind WW2 combat gear.

Dis a good change, bunny hopping doesn't work anyway (what help is it anyway?), and one of the most annoying this ever was getting stuck on something, jumping up few times while trying to "release" yourself, and not being able to sprint at all because of that (how is that realistic? couple jumps and out of breath?)
Stamina lost was already very slow. It won't change anything whatsoever, unless you always try to run through a desert on foot...

It's not the bunny hopping that worries me, it's the rambo gameplay that could get encouraged if you never have to get behind cover and can just run around... But IMO it's a wrong way to go... They should have went with increased running speed (makes people harder to hit) and decreased stamina drain for jumping (but still able to get out of breath after sprinting so you need to plan you movements ahead).

But...You already can run very long distances with the current stamina system! Just try it out if you still have 2.4 installed... In close range fights, it won't make any difference.

Anyway.

You know full well I'll be crewing the MG turret on the Lee as much as possible.  Fuck yah uselessness!

Also, on the sprinting, I found it to be VERY nice.  Means no more suddenly running out of steam 10 feet from cover and such, and dying because of it.  It encourages better cover to cover play, and imo, is a very good change.

And technically you could, but it won't work too well, you'd die rather fast.  Mostly, it is to allow HE shells to kill APCs, as they would irl.

@Thorondor:  I always wonder why the militaries of the world now insist that soldiers carry upwards of 100lbs of gear into combat...soldiers obviously didn't need to do that in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, and yet somehow, they managed to fight far, far more savage battles than anything we have seen in the past 20 years.

I'm assuming because of lower casualty rates and improved firepower per soldier. 25 kg for a vest that stops assault rifle rounds; plus a shitload of ammunition, grenades, flashbangs, smoke, markers, etc. for extended firefights; ACOG, flashlight and GL for your weapon; sidearm; rations, extra socks and whatnot; and radio for effective communication. Add AT weapons, breaching explosives/shotgun, MP gear, LMG, Medkit, mines, and so on for certain individuals. All this adds up to a lot of weight, but can prove to be effective under the right circumstances. It's not like this is a must for all missions.

/Edit: The point is: a lot of this stuff can be a lifesaver, and it makes every single soldier a one man army, more or less.

I understand the idea of the bullet proof stuff, and more ammo, and such.  But it seems to me that carrying a lot of the stuff I see is useless.  I've seen american troops in Iraq storming houses in Fallujah whilst wearing their sleeping rolls on their backs |:  It seems there's a bit too much focus on comfort...war isn't comfortable.  I'd rather have to sleep on bare dirt for a night, or go hungry for a day, than get killed because I am unable to move as fast as I could minus 50lbs of crap.  But that's just me. :P
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45

...I really can't defend the idea of room clearing with stuff that's basically field gear and not combat gear. I'm guessing those guys were on some extended combat mission where they couldn't ditch some of the unneeded stuff.

First makes planes either less or more resistant to bullets (I can't remember which, it was a long time ago).  Second means that the number of bullets you can fire before overheating is more consistent between different guns.

I'lll not lie to you, pizzzaman12

ESAI isn't very functional as yet. What ESAI does is to make commander AI more precise and more tactical.
But it requires individual map tweaks that weren't quite done in time for release. So it really wont change much.

But its a big deal to have it officially a part of the mod, since as I recall, it was much liked as an add-on.

We have new SP maps
We have working vehicles that werent working before in SP
we have working mg42 for instance, doesnt work in 2.4

We have all the new toys with ai.
We have Keren with AI with the working Hardy and Italian tank.

My personal favorites are the mg42 lafette which is now a true killer in maps it exists in,
the working AA guns i.e the quad .50 and Crusader AA,
and the working gabeltladung. Now the NA Axis have a way to deal with Allied armor.

There was more things I'd have loved to get in, but sadly, time and rl constraints didnt make this possible.

But rest assured, SP isn't dead - or dying. You have its most fanatical advocate in the Beta testing team, so there is always someone to wine, dine, coax or coerce to get SP done.

Like you, I have a wishlist too. And I'm working on it - Not least of which is getting SP for the 2 new maps, especially Sidi Bou Zid with all its new toys and open desert combat. Should be a more interesting Alam Halfa, Alamein when its done.

Can you or an other dev put the download files in the singleplayer section when ai is ready for these maps? Would be great to play these maps when the servers turns empty again after some time, especially if the next release would be eastfront which will most likely take another year.

Taking away stamina is like taking heat mechanics away from Battletech. Before, crossing any open space was a risk/reward type of thing: do I have stamina to cross there or should I rest for a moment (and risk being hit by incoming fire in the meanwhile)? Now there is no reason NOT to run errywhere.

Also, regarding the forceful removal of Aberdeen, light the torches and sharpen those pitchforks! It's still better than Supercharge or Siege of Tobruk, for example. Someone, anyone, back up that map and put it up for download, so it can be added to server rotation >:(

Ducking on Lafettes and tweaking of ragdolls sound good though.

Uh yeah, I honestly can't believe that sprint stamina and jump stamina has been taken out. What's to prevent people from bunny hopping? Also, I never thought stamina drain was an issue ... it added tactical depth to crossing expanses of open terrain. Now that's completely gone ... someone care to explain this baffling decision??

Also, I've noticed an alarming number of maps losing bazookas as anti tank weapons, especially in Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. What gives? Axis armor is very powerful on these maps, and you're taking away bazookas?? I don't understand these changes in the least bit.

On the whole I'm looking forward to the release, but these big unnecessary gameplay changes have certainly put a dent in my excitement...

^A valid point- though to my own big surprise i quite like this feature in BF3. For me it somehow feels more natural to have a sprint ability whenever i want. In FH2 i rage massively sometimes, cause i couldnt jump over an obstacle because of a nade to take cover just because my stamina was 1 minibar too low- thus i remain scptical but also looking forward to this

The whole "Oooh bunnyhopping" thing is bs though, there's nothing stopping you from jumping endlessly in 2.4 as you can keep jumping even with zero stamina. Besides, anyone with some leg muscles can keep jumping for a very long time (see youtube for sack-racing)

As for "omg you can run forever", well in FH2 the sprint doesn't really sprint. In BF2 the speeds you could go were walk, jog, or RUN!!. In FH2, the default speed, and the sprint speed, are slower, so the speeds are closer to sneak, quick walk & quick jog. Even I could jog over 1800m in my last Cooper test (12min of running on a track). Now if the sprint was actually changed into a true sprint, then yes you shouldn't be able to do it longer than a minute. But then you'd have a bunch of speedy gonzales' running around.

Awesome! :)
So Keren and Sidi
will have SP?

Only Keren.
I am pushing for Sidi because its one of its kind.
But sadly, it doesnt as yet.

The SP map list for 2.45 (Maps that didnt have SP prior) are:
Keren, Vossenack, Bastonge, Hurtgen Forest.

All are partially done i.e they work, but certain aspects aren't quite finished so its not as solid as say, Alam Halfa, Port en Bessin etc

In BF2 you had the decision: run or RUN FAST AS HELL for a short time without being able to use your weapon.

In FH2.45 you have the decision: walk with weapon at the ready or run without being able to shoot. No stamina needed.

The "bunny hopping" thing got me to wondering. I just tested it and you can continually jump in 2.4 at walking speed, which is slow, but the running jump is alot faster and you can currently get about two jumps at running speed and then stamina is out. Right now if I get caught out in the open i'll zigzag run, wich is pretty effective especially against bolt actions. Now youll be able to ad some zigjumps in there.

Anyways, very excited about new version even though I havnt had the chance to get to play all the current maps. Last few days on WAW server have been great with all the ppl playing. Rarely was a 64 map played before.

Hello everyone! First of all awesome trailer Kubador! It looks like FH2.45 is going to be another epic release!

To keep your anticipations running and your adrenaline pumping through your veins I've released a youtube video showing a lot of new content present in the 2.45 release.

All information was gathered from the news updates released between August 2011 and today.

Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vnjtfobrgs

@mopskind: you are right, but i can't try it out now, I'm away from a gaming rig, I'm at a library. But I removed my post, so you could do the same as you replied to me.

Though my last statement stays: If at any point in time FH is going arcade or faster than it is now, I'll be out. I like games that I can enjoy, not run through. When the game is too fast, the setting doesn't matter much any more. But the FH2 settings are great, so I assume that we get the time to enjoy them as well as tactical combat, not fast mouse clicking and key pressing. And imo the bunny hopping soldier puppet dosn't really fit in the setting. Then I need a kind of "open season" setting.

1) If you are a modder/mapper that is bad at modding/mapping and use your stock fh2 dir for edits instead of a copy-pasted fh2 folder called fh2mod, make sure to back up any custom stuff you've made/are working on.
2) If you've manually edited the keybinds/other files in the my docs\fh2 folder, back those up.

If you've done neither and just like to play the mod, there's nothing you need to worry about ;)

I hereby want to sincerely thank the developers, betatesters and supporters of FH2 for their outstanding work. You have created the best WWII themed game I have played so far, and I think that even in ten years, nothing will be able to replace FH2, since it is unique and of splendid quality. I couldn't believe that the last version could still be further improved, but you proved me wrong. I love nightmaps, so I was really pleased when I heard about the 32-layer changes. The new animations are also much more immersive than the ones they replaced. I have some Questions, though. Did ESAI get added to every map, or only a few? And did the night versions (32 player layers) receive bot support?
I can't wait until 1800 hrs.  :P

With this in mind I assume/hope the people running this forum will have a simplified page in place of the normal forums that just has the torrent password and direct download links and some minimal description/instruction(at least for an hour or so after release time). I believe this is what they did when 2.4 came out and IIRC it worked out pretty well with people being able to get on the site and get the password.

I have no idea what aspect ratio means :o

Immersive HUD ? What is that ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_display_standard

Aspect ration is the rectangularness of your screen. It is likely 16:9.

Aspect ration means if you have 16:9 ( a 1920x1080 monitor) or 16:10 screen (a 1680 x 1050 monitor)

Immersive hud means you won't see minimap, ammo counter and other things on your screen

DAMIT WHY IT'S A SOOO BEAUTIFULL DAY AND WHY MY ENGIENEER PARTY IS TODAY WHEN 2.45 COMES OUT ?!?

I've only had the time to try a bit Mareth Line and St-Vith. Mareth is a lot nicer with trees a bit all around. St-Vith seems to be incredibly well detailled, tought I've seen only a small part of the map. The thing that surprized me the most is the invisible HUD. For the moment it's the day and night, I like it for more imersion, but you are kind of "blind" since you always have to look at your map to know what's happening, to see the team score, what flags your team are holding, etc. I'm working on the next four days, so I will not have a lot of time to spend on FH2( I know I'm sad about it) but for the moment 2.45 seems quite interresting, pushing my expectations at each patch, FH2 will always surprises me and I'm happy to rediscover this game after each updates. Thanks devs for your work.

So why did you turn off the hud?  The immersion hud is only activated if you choose to turn it on, and you can turn full immersion off again just as easily. :P

@pizzzaman12

You will be able to play the Battle of Keren map with bots by creating a local game. All you have to do is to click on the multiplayer tab, select create local, then select coop in the gamemode list, after that you can select Keren from the maplist. Limit the number of players to one, and enjoy!  :D

Oh, and by the way I think that you will be absolutely loving this: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=14093.15

It really improves your FPS and brings a whole lot of options that are not available in SP.

Btw does Sidi Bou Zid have SP version?

Not according the the Changelog (http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/screenshotsfh2/news/2.45_release/ForgottenHope245Changelog.txt). Keren would be really nice with SP and Coop support. But these things can be added over time. It's a bit more difficult with FH because of the many map revisions that means generating navmeshes (for the AI) has to be left to last. All part of FH quality control  ;D

okay,

so is it just me or do alot of CTD issues happen when tweaking 2.45? I tweaked up some kits and map factions and in the spawn menu, there are no kits, and i get a CTD when I try to spawn. This happening to other people? Thanks

In 2.45 there is a new way of loading kits to reduce loading times and memory usage. You need to specify which kits to load for each map. AFAIK there is a script to do that, maybe a dev can write a tutorial.

When you lose connection to the server, does it give the specific error? or does it crash to desktop?
If it is MD5 or even something with punkbuster, you might want to update punkbuster just to be safe.

I had it with 2.4 as well, and it seems like vanilla BF2 has similar problems, so the problemisn't in the mod, it's probably on BF2 mainserver.

+1 me also...  every time I press join on a server it says 'connection lost' so I need to press it again.
Very annoying when you've been hammering hslan or FHT server to get in when it's 64/64....

btw; Im running BF2 Origin install on both my machines (work + home)
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: sheikyerbouti on 17-07-2012, 09:07:16
My suspicion is a serverside error but not with BF2.

The disconnect also has a nasty habit of kicking an existing player, when the new player is attempting to join. On WaW yesterday, it was so persistent that we couldn't actually max out the server for a number of maps due to all the d/c's.
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: Kelmola on 17-07-2012, 10:07:09
Did not have this problem with 2.4 or any previous version, only appeared with 2.45.

Then again, I had a couple of months' break inbetween, so might just be that BF2 master server has started to act up in the meanwhile.
Title: Re: Road to Forgotten Hope 2.45
Post by: sheikyerbouti on 17-07-2012, 10:07:52
I swear to god that it isn't a problem with the master server.

My log in's work every time, with no delay but I get a persistent "cannot connect to server" or "server connection is lost" when I initially click to join a server.

In addition, when you do join, there is a correlation between the player numbers before and after you finally joined up. ie: 60 players connected > join server > 60 players when you connect to server and start playing.

Do the math and one player is persistently missing/ disconnected as 60 + 1 = 61

Post by: Strat_84 on 17-07-2012, 18:07:30
Guys, the "first connexion try failure" has nothing to do with FH, neither 2.4 nor 2.45. This is caused by a wonky Punkbuster update that surfaced around May 2012.  :(

I'm also having a problem with another PB kicking error: Multiple Direct3D-A.
Apparently it's because of nvidias latest optimus drivers, and it effects Ass Greed Revelations as well.

The Polish army was in FH1. FH2 will use those voice commands just like they are using voice commands for every other army right now.

Every voice set in FH2 is from BF42/FH 0.7.

BF42 / RTR voices:
- German
- British
- American
- Canadian
- French
- Italian
- Russian
- Japanese

FH 0.7 voices:
- Finnish
- Polish
- Australian

Australian voice set was originally made by some Pacific mod, but I forgot its name.

-

Then there are other voice sets that might be usable if the content creators allow the use of them:
- Dutch (by Forgotten Honor)
- Norwegian (Norwegian Resistance minimod to FH 0.7)

These two does NOT belong to the "default FH2 voice set" but I could imagine that they would become available if there was any need for them.

So the german taunts are still the original Bf1942 ones?

I know this is much to ask, but when we played Day of Defeat in the old days (for Half Life 1) I felt the taunts there sounded a little less "artificial". For example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QruLao0MMO0

Thinking back to my own service time, the commands/voice taunts we would use in training would sound less eloquent than those taunts the German soldiers can use in Forgotten Hope 2 right now.

For example, noone would use for "incoming": "Vorsicht -breathing break-, alle Mann runter"
(too long, half the squad would be cut down by MG before you could react ^^).
Normally we would use "Stellung!" ( ="into Position!") or "RUNTER!" (="get down").

How do you guys feel about having the community bring in their own voices? I'm sure there are enough German/British/French/Russian/... players who are A) equipped with a nice gravelly, soldier like voice and B) eager to help.

What do you think?

This has been discussed many times in the past. Of course the devs would like to have custom sounds for all armies. But it would require quite a few people with some voice acting talent and proper recording equipment.
