What WOT cant do for you. So i was browsing google to find a picture of the T21 light tank, a prototype of the T20-T23 series
So i googled it=
http://www.google.be/search?tbm=isch&hl=nl&source=hp&biw=1680&bih=935&q=T21+light+tank&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=
See something already?
I saw it on the last moment..
http://stahlhelm1939.wordpress.com/category/u-s-army/
http://stahlhelm1939.wordpress.com(scroll down)
I reported this to thorondor wich contacted the rest.
After a while i learned other Modders and other have used FH2 material before without permission nor mentioning credit
Morale of this thread=Eyes open people. If you see other people wich use FH2 stuff, renders or such, its good to contact the Moderators/admins to varify if they got permission
-
Indeed, like I said to you on steam, the guy knowingly covered up the Forgotten Hope logo, thus denying credit.
-
Not only that, but notice how he has added a blank on top of the makers of the models at the bottom of the render images?
-

Yep. That was awefull to watch. I scrolled down and down and i kept finding FH2 renders all over the place. Went to the mainsite. And found more renders.
And do you know what the MOST IRRITATING about this is?
Check on the bottom of the main site=

TO me that it is claiming that it is HIS work and that he fights against Plagiarism

This guy is a major league asshole, that's for sure :|
-
Did some more digging. some renders where added recently, like this one

-
Sad thing, but i wonder, what is the point of his website?
-
It's to educate people on US Army I think. I saw that website and I wasn't sure if it was something worth pursuing. Thank you Theta for bringing this back up, we'll pursue it internally.
And if anyone else finds examples of FH2 plagiarism, let's make this the official thread for posting it.
-
Ye i decided to make this thread as i heard before that other people used FH2 for there mods without permission nor credit to the origenal (CoH mods so i heard)
-
Yea, I think just about every CoH mod has attempted to get away with using our stuff. We always shoot them down. Also had a bunch of Chinese people try to get at our shit, including one guy who build his own tank-FPS using models from BF42, FH1, and FH2, and then tried to sell it.
-
Sad thing, but i wonder, what is the point of his website?
What's the point of any blog out there?
But a weird site it sure is. To name your site Stahlhelm and then go all out fetishising on US hardware...
He tries to be plain informative on his site, which I guess it's a good thing, but why on earth tape a logo across the original FH logo makes no sense.
And is this one also FH's by the way? At least he made an effort there... ;)
http://stahlhelm1939.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/sturmgeschutz-40-ausf-g-late/sturmgeschutz-iii_01/

This makes me angry.

Yes.
-
Get mad! Burn the site down with combustible lemons!
-
Im sure most of the people here that make the models wouldnt mind their work out there. In fact its good advertising. Just how hard is it to give credit?!?! Im sure hed throw a fit if his stuff was taken and used elsewhere ;-0. But thats stooping to his level...
-
Yea, I think just about every CoH mod has attempted to get away with using our stuff. We always shoot them down.
Which guy/mod tried to get your stuff? If you don't want to write here, then pls send me a pm.
-
Demand to see the blogs manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give FH2 lemons! Or plagiarize stuff in this case. We're done here.
-
Better to politely explain to him that he is free to post pics from FH2, so long as he give us credit. He keeps his silly blog, we get free advertising.
Everybody wins.
-

As the fair finder i have right for 1% of the lemons
-
Cave Johnson's lemons should not be taken orally. And don't put them on your skin either. Just don't take them at all, that's what the labboys said.
-
As good as the models may be, a 3D model made by somebody is not necessarily a good evidence to explain equipment of the U.S. Army during World War 2. It simply lacks detail.
The whole site is so piss-poor, I can't even define the language. Is it Romainian? Polish? Also found no disclaimer. Big lol.
Edit:// oh wait, this is him? Now you can watch him like monkeys in a zoo.

I bet that's his gaming computer in the background. Made by NASA in 1962.
-
Wow, some people really need to find their own content/give credit. Didn't make much sense just posting US ARMY over the FH2 logo for the knife models when it also had the Wehrmacht knives.
Still, the people doing this don't just seem lazy but also kinda stupid and would clearly make poor criminals if they like trying to escape lawsuits.
-
Funniest thing on his webpage is that he thanks all the spambots for commenting on his blog. ^^
For me he isn't very bright and I don't know if it's worth it. As long as he's just using the pics and obviously in quite an amateur way. 8)
Anyhow, just scroll down and enjoy. http://stahlhelm1939.wordpress.com/about/ ;D

oh my.......

From his response I get the feeling that this is a major bot-blog where the 'creator' himself is a bot.
-

He is too ugly, just imagine how ugly the model would be. Besides, he behaves like a bot, indeed.
-
Anyone speaking Romanian or whatever he speaks?
I think we do not want to present the community as a lynch mob, no?
-
This is for sure not a good practice for a blogger, we need to discuss with him/her how to use FH2 materials properly.
Maybe he don't want such a large logo of FH2 up there, but I think there are other proper ways of doing that.

Please, calm down.
This personn is certainly not aware about the internet rule and etiquette.
No need to flame him until we haven't talk with him.

and there goes my disguise....

I'm disgusted with that the FH devs put their hard work into those renders and someone just comes and steals them... :-\
-
Anyway, Azreal you should make a sticky thread in wich you say people need to be on the lookout for this
-
well, and to teach people how to cite properly FH materials. We shouldn't give up the possibility of doing a bit of advertisements ;)
-
And his site keeps on growing with FH2 content.
-
I somehow dont get it why he left the credits to Toddel and K96 on M1917 revolver and US smoke grenade, when he didnt on rest. If is it because it is on same line like as the name of weapon, and not line bellow, his brightness is...... like bot.
-
5 new renders from fh2... maybe the devs should sue him and get some well deserved cash^^

And nobody has said anything about black choppers yet ;D

Looks like a form of content scraping. There are entire sites that scrape other people's blog posts in order to make their site look dynamic so they can attract advertising. ~It's usually scraped blog posts, or in this case WW2 renders from a certain modification. Seen this kinda thing a few times now, but it still sort of makes me gasp :-X.

Well, as somebody linked him to the FH frontpage, he might have felt invited to copy a few more pics due to the reference. ;D

ABOUT GODDAM time!
-
kinda wack, i don't know why he has to take off the names.... he could easily give the modelers credit, it is educational after all so ... not like if he just did that there would be any legal grounds for copyrighting.
but... for instance I don't think it matters as much as you think... I mean I watched a UK Reality Warfare PR Forest Fire trailer and they use music with no credit to the artist... I don't think anyone is thinking, well G the artist really got stiffed on that one.
This is a mod where you have taken EA's code, engine, etc. to basically borrow their hard work... of course you give them credit but the theory applies that sharing is the way to the future.
And also when so often we get replies on suggestions of "no one has the time" then do we really have the time to go after some guy's blog that in reality no one is looking at.
-
Yes
*loads Drilling
-
and infact the credit should go to the 2d artist because really the models aren't even what they have. maybe since the 2d artist isn't listed on the credits... well FH2 is... he felt no need to leave the names. ;D
-
Well stealing without permission is certainly a rude thing to do. But I really don't think it's a good thing to paint other communities as thieves just for asking to use something. I heard that one group from CoH asked if they could use stuff from FH1, and were denied permission.
From what I've seen in modding communities, there are many talented people around, but their attitudes are what set them apart. I mean, if I had the talent to model things, and I made a Panzer III for one community, and another one asked if they could use my model I would take that as a compliment, as long as they gave me some form of credit or asked for input or something.
-
Well when you've actually made the object(s) in question, it becomes different. Everyone likes to pretend they'd play the nice-guy-attitude, but few ever do.
Also, the thing with CoH mods are, they almost never ask...they just take.
-
It doesn't take talent to model/animate/2d art/etc. Just hard work and commitment. If someone doesn't to share his hard work then it's his damned right to do so.
"If you're good at something, never do it for free." - oh wait...
-
and infact the credit should go to the 2d artist because really the models aren't even what they have. maybe since the 2d artist isn't listed on the credits... well FH2 is... he felt no need to leave the names. ;D
Trivia: Remdul makes the renders for news updates I think. Although azreal learned it recently IIRC.
-
CoH mods do really just take, there was like 6 mods who copied like everything from Blitzkrieg mod (another CoH mod, awesome btw) and the number keeps on growing, they always get their profiles deleted on ModB but still they continue...
-
But they'll never be super cool.
-

That disease is common to many games unfortunately. For one guy that is really interested in improving a game and spends some time on it, there are always 10 lazy retards that just want to be "developer" but don't want to make any other effort than copy/pasting content ...
-
that's also the reason why many talented modders have stopped modding ...
-
you guys do know that most of the CoH blitzkrieg content is free to use content? and that allot of its content was out before blitzkrieg mod? ::) aaaaand that blitzkrieg mod If you listen closely enough have the FH2 mg42 sound with a little twist on it? 98k sound aswell iirc
-
What a bunch of turds. That is precisely why the internet can be dangerous and filled with dickheads.
-
I'm one now that I think of it... :o I used some of FH2s sounds in a stop motion... Well, from now on I will give credit for the sounds at the end! I just never thought of it.
-
im not sure what is worst, taking stuff without asking, or not giving credit..
-
Not giving credit is worse than taking without asking.
In the internet, it is hard to prevent anyone from taking the content of their site, unless you are forcing it (e.g. disabling the right click, which is annoying to the user). I usually put a reference to the original creator when I take something, even only some part of it.
I remembered how Thompson M1A1 sounded like back in FH 0.7, it was similar to Band of Brothers sound effect, which is silly. Thankfully FH2 used better ones.

Now this is worst of all: taking credit of something that is not your own. So, for me, from the worst to least: taking credit from someone else work; not giving credit; taking stuff without asking.
-
i absolutly agree with you on that one

How do you know, that the sounds are made by FH Team?
You also say that it sounds a little bit different...
The mod-teams get their modells, sounds, etc. from community members
The Blitzkrieg-Modder doesn't make any content, unless UI, himself - he only combines the work of other community members.
If the mod uses your property, these guys are to blame, and not the modder, which thinks that his content is made by the community members...
-

Yeah, most is free to use, but not Xalibur's made skins (BK mod leader), he lets people use them, if they ask for permission and give him credits, which all those mod stealers i mentioned, didnt.
and honestly, i play both mods everyday, and i dont see that BK stole the mg42 sound, it does sound close, but its the damn same weapon, and i dont know where the BK sounds came from.

I've been working behind the scenes and exposing stolen FH content to Lobo for years.
This happens a lot more than you think.

I think someone has stolen Lobo now ;D

Who is this Lobo fella you all speak of?

Game was announced with new game engine, but I doubt when watching the models.
>Panther, StuG and Tiger II
Soon more content rated ???.
http://ironfront.deepsilver.com/
1. It uses same engine as Arma 2
2. Game engine doesn't have "anything" to do with models.
3. Just take their stug and FH2 stug next to each other and you'll see there are plenty of differences.
Edit: WTF. Dice in LuckyOnes avatar is moving :o. It has never done so for me.

Hehe I recently re-uploaded it to imageShack as it wouldn't play animation when I uploaded it here... ;)

FH2 renders seem to be used everywhere
http://www.maquetland.com/v2/index.php?page=vision&id=224&type=photos
But this site does it right. Nothing changed of the render and a source to the FH2 website :)
-
I was just randomly browsing moddb when this came up: http://www.moddb.com/mods/unit-mod1/images/schwimmwagen
It looks oddly familiar. Or is it just me (question mark)
-
He says in the commets that he made the modell two years ago, wasnt this modell all readly in Fh1 so its actually longer in FH2 than 2 years?
-
I found from the FH archives a news post that shows ingame images of the vehicle in september 2004. The announcement of the vehicle in a newspost could have been earlier, but I could not locate it because I was skimming through the archives with haste. However, it is clear that this person is trying to nick Rad's work. Claiming he made it 2 years ago doesnt even help him because 2.2 was released in 2009 september, which was the first release to introduce the vehicle again in Villers-Bocage map.

In these kind of cases, I always wonder where did the thief stole his other content. In both of these last 2 cases, the author has been pushing quite a lot content out. But did they make any of them?
-
Didn't know where to post this, so sorry for bump.
I found this model: http://www.moddb.com/mods/warfront1/images/ingame-shots-of-panzer-ii-and-t-264
You can see that it's the FH model just by comparing it with the official render: http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/images/vehicles/T-26/big.jpg
I didn't check all pictures but I think there might be more models/textures from FH. Montoya and FH1 are long gone so I'm not sure if stolen models are still seen as a crime.
-
I'm not too sure about this one. The Warront tank is missing the two headlights for example, and also the rear part looks different.
Of course there are also a lot of similarities, but because they are the same tank in a mod of the same game, chances are quite big that you get similar looking vehicles.
Thanks for the report anyway, maybe I'm totally off the chart here and someone more modelsavvy can shed his/her light on this.
-
Are you making these models and textures alone? That's quality of whole mod-team...
Yes, it is just me, although I can't take credit for some of the models/textures. I have downloaded quite a few from free model sites. While I did have to do a LOT of work (re-model parts, re-wraps, partial re-skins, etc) to some of them to get them ready for the game, some of these were done by someone else.
From the Moddb comments section. It could be the FH1 model modifield without permission, after all.
-
Yeah, it would be nice if he wrote down which models were his and which aren't, and who worked on them. Will save a lot of trouble later. My guess is most of them aren't his because he is the only one working on the mod.
-
You can tell by the matching texture detalis that it is indeed a FH1's model. I can't tell if he aquired it in a legal way tho. Nice find. I guess is up to devs to dispel any doubts here.
-
Montoya and FH1 are long gone so I'm not sure if stolen models are still seen as a crime.
Wait, doesn't a Pixel-Fighter server with 26 concurrent players count as alive?
-
Montoya and FH1 are long gone so I'm not sure if stolen models are still seen as a crime.
It's a matter of respect for those who work hard for free to provide those model.
(even if the model is obsolete today)
A minimum is to ask permission
-

Yes it's still being played, with "long gone" I meant the development of the mod.
-
Nice to see you're still around Seth_Soldier :)
Easy Eight, I downloaded this model, along with several others. Did I know they were FH models? I kinda figured, I'm familiar enough with their older BF1942 stuff to know, even if the texture sheets wasn't signed. But since they were uploaded to a free 3d model download site over 3 years ago, and available for download under personal and commercial free license, I used them. I changed some things on the models, and the textures as well, to fit with what I'm doing with my mod, but I never claimed ownership of the models. Plagerism? Stolen models? Criminal? Seems a bit excessive, even coming from an FH fanboy...
I would suggest a simple Google search of "free 3d models" to see whats out there and who put it there, and under what conditions they can be used, BEFORE coming to a public forum and accusing anyone of anything.
EDIT: As a side note, it would have been easier for me if I did just "take" the model from the FH mod. The models I downloaded were in .max format. I had to open them in 3dsmax 12, convert them to .3ds, then open them in 3dsmax 7, make any changes to the model I deemed necessary, break apart the tank into it's hierarchy, set the pivots, create the bones, skin the tracks for animation, create the collisions and shadows, apply the texture, and then code after exporting. I can honestly say that I have just as much work in the model itself as the original dev. I chose to do this because even with all that work, these models were still unwrapped and textured, which (for me at least) is the most time consuming part of the modeling process. So, if I have anything to feel "guilty" about, it would be using the texture that I didn't not create.

Don't worry, no one's accusing you of anything criminal. This is a place to discuss possible illegal use of FH's stuff and bring it to the dev's attention. The devs can decide what they want to do about it.
Seems that someone clearly ripped these models from FH and uploaded them to various 3D websites without the owners permission. I'm sure this is also the case with many other FH models on websites that we don't know about.
All the accounts that uploaded these models are anonymous and have no other information. I'm almost 100% certain that they weren't uploaded by the original devs, especially if it was only 3 years ago.
Imo the best thing to do would be to ask the website to take these models down.

That's really all that can be done, but it's up to the devs to do it.

Rest assured of 2 things...One, I haven't used a lot of the models that are availbale for download, and two, I have every intention of replacing the models I have used at some point, and have already replaced a few since their inclusion in the mod (Panzer II, Churchill, KVs, and King Tiger, to name a few). I am either using another downloaded model, or I remodel them myself. I am a very capable modeler and texturer, and that shouldn't be in question, so it wasn't because I couldn't do these models on my own. I added them because it gave me a lot of new content quickly that I could build my mod around. I have plans to eventually have all my own stuff in WarFront, but between working alone and working with a game that is over 15 years old means that this is most likely not going to happen. But I would like to be able to say that a lot (preferably most) of the content is mine.
I know almost all of those devs personally, and worked with them in the early days of FH 1. I did some coding for FH 1, and a few textures as well. I have a great deal of respect for them as developers, and I would like to believe that they hold me in the same regard, so this was NEVER an issue of me trying to steal their work and pass it off as my own.
I didn't credit the FH team with these models when I used them, because they didn't come directly from the FH mod. Had I done that, I think the fallout from the FH fanboys that still play FH 1 would've been pretty bad, and this issue would've blown up. So I kept it simple. I downloaded them from various internet sites, used them, and that was that.
Either way, I will replace all the ones I have time to, and the mod will continue to move forward. It's not FH 1 by any means, but I would invite you to download WarFront and give it a try if you still play BF1942. I have done a few new things, like 3d reticles and random spawn load-outs on my planes that you might like.
