New grpahics card and processor
« on: 23-01-2010, 11:01:57 »
My graphics card just broke down (9800gt), so now i am buying a new one and new processor in the process.

I have been thinking about Radeon HD5770 card and Intel q9400(or should i get i5 750). Any opinions or suggestions?

I have P5B motherboard, 4gb of ram and not sure about my power supply.

My budget is something like 300-400 euros, but off course i would like get all as cheap as possible ;D

I agree with Stefan, it's the most bang for your buck.
But f you want to have top notch quality go for the Sapphire HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E (Game Edition). Cost around 320 euro.

they don't use the same socket, so you'd have to get a new motherboard if you do that

15 uses the LGA1156 socket, and the E6600 is LGA775. The i5-750 wouldn't work with your board. you'd be better off getting the other processor (the Q9400) unless you want a new motherboard.

I would get Radeon HD 5850(~245euro), 5870 is a bit better but not worth the extra money imo.. (~110euro)

I wouldn't get 5770 anyway. If you want a card in that price range, take a look at GTX 260 and 4870 or 4890 - those are better.

i5 750 is a great choice but you also need a new MB for that.

Already told him about the motherboard thing. Anyway, the 5870 is not just a little better, it's the best or second best card in existence today. But since he is looking to keep the price down, I'd go with the 5850. Good price for performance.

I bought a Radeon 4850 13 month ago. It was the low cost variant of their top model 4870. I'm usually playing at 1024x768 with low AA and AF, if I use AA and AF at all, and I could play everything on best settings so far. Accordingly I'm really happy with that 4850, though I'm a bit jealous of those new 5k ATI series. Those must be a bummer. All of them.

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

5970(and maybe 5950 when it arrives), Mars GTX 295 and regular GTX 295 are better.
But yeah.... go for 5850.

2 options

1: 5770 + q9400

2: 5850 and buy a cpu or a whole new mobo/cpu combo ( amd 955 ) at a later time

Really, I wouldn't go with a AMD processor right now. You get more for your money with an Intel right now that performs better.

If I were you, I'd go with the 5850+Q9400, unless you plan to get a new motherboard.

the GTX 295 maybe faster, but power consumption levels are much lower on the 5870, and it's a quieter card, something you may wish to consider.

i dont wanna go into the whole amd intel bashing discussion thing.

But if the most performance demanding software you run are games, then AMD is always a good choice no matter the price.

Wasn't trying to bash, I'm running an AMD system right now ;) I just want a Intel system, and as of right now they are king. Except in the GPU area, AMD pwns :)
