General Discussion / Re: Blinking flag
« on: 07-12-2018, 00:12:33 »
Thank you Jan for proving my point. ;) <3
It is one thing to test a gameplay change with 5vs5 beta testers.
How it works out on a full 50vs50 server, Jan, can be another matter.

You can ignore that and call everyone around yourself a noob and incompetent.
Or ask yourself if there is something to improve here.

This discussion will go the same way as the one about the K98 aiming.

Players, for 5 years: There is a problem with the K98 aiming.
Devs: "there is no problem, stop complaining."

Devs after 5 years: there might be a slight problem with the elevation of the grain... but nothing that would explain the players' complaints about the K98's accuracy. Stop exaggerating already.

Devs after 6 years: hey it was not really necessary, but we changed the grain...a bit.
K98 aim: *works again.*
Players: "..."

It IS a problem if the defender can instantly see via flashing flag that one of his flags is under attack. Way before it turns white and denies him the possibility to instantly join on that flag and prop it up with defending players. It gives him an unfair advantage.

On crossed flags? Yes, the flashing is sensible, to highlight spawn campers. In conquest modes with free for all flags? Don't use it. "But Odium, you are exaggerating, there is no..."

;)
See you in 5 years.

General Discussion / [762] root server maintenance on Sunday
« on: 01-09-2018, 12:09:03 »
Dear Players,

due to necessary maintenance, the [762] root server will be down on Sunday around 16:00 hrs Berlin/Paris time. It has been running for 8 years now and some of the hardware needs to be replaced (e.g. hard disks).

Thank you for your patience, we'll post when we are back online.

For the [762] admin team,

General Discussion / Re: Rule Change at [762]
« on: 04-04-2018, 09:04:12 »
Hi Jobabb,

we were making an attempt to show that some work is required in keeping the server
running and that there are admins doing a lot of work in the background and on the servers.

We showed what it would be like if noone is at home and "watching the kids play", so to speak.
The whole thing was planned to be going on 2 days and it did.

If you wish to support us, donating money to our server hoster is ofc always welcome, but we
do need admins to watch our servers while they are playing, to advise and help players, to warn
and kick. We are actively looking for people to help us. At the moment, there are about 60 admins
registered and of these 20-30 admins are regularly playing during the week.

These people and their spare time effort are in fact what makes [762] work.

If you want to know how to help out (this goes to all FH2 regulars reading this), please do register
at www.762-ranking.de and PM me. You will receive a written explanation of what to do and how to
do it. Then you start a 2 week trial time and after that you can decide, if you wish to stick with us.
Yes, it is free of charge! ;)

That is not a prank, we are quite serious about it.

+ Should you think "real players" won't abuse this... speaking from 9 years of experience,
they will. And you shall see tomorrow. We will hang back, relax and enjoy the show.

General Discussion / Rule Change at [762]
« on: 01-04-2018, 00:04:38 »
Dear PLAYERS of Forgotten Hope,
over the last years, we have had complaints that:

[762] is killing FH2
[762] is ruining the community
[762] has stupid rules
[762] has stupid admins
[762] is no fun
[762] [... fill in endless other random complaints here]

To give you a taste of what people are complaining about and to show what work our admins are doing in the background every evening - in short, to give everyone a taste of "how cool it would be if only..."

Well, let's just say, "enjoy the game"!

Hello again,

since we had yet another request of a player that has "never played FH2" ever before and just "downloaded the game" to be unbanned, I will copy my reply to him, that we gave in our forums, into this forum here as well so you guys can see it.

"Alright guys, it is simple.

If you get your game and CD key from an unofficial download, from a CD key generator, you have to take into account the fact, that the keygenerator is not that good and that CD Keys do repeat. So if you get a key that someone else has already used on our servers to break the rules, cheat, hack or spread racism, then this key will of course stay banned.

It is your responsibility to obtain your original game and key and not share it with anyone, so you do not get banned for somebody else's actions.

Because of the fact that we do not have a livestream into your living room and we cannot prove  or disprove that it was not you in the first place, who got banned with the old key, we do not feel obliged to remove banned keys from our ban list. They are on it for a reason.

You may ask the people who spread this downloading and key generating tool for assistance. But it is not our responsibility to fix the problems that arise from the use of repeatedly generated CD keys."

Dear Everyone,

just a reply from our side, since I just had to clean up a link to this thread here.

In the [762] forums, we do not distribute ways to:

a) circumvent bans (which this software is).
b) to download a copyrighted game, which BF2 still is.

We already have enough problems with people behaving like madmen or cheating on our servers.

There is a reason that battlelog.co was closed down BY REQUEST OF EA Games.
See for yourself: https://battlelog.co/
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/10/ea-shuts-down-fan-run-servers-for-older-battlefield-games/

Step 2 would have been a lawsuit. We cannot afford to have that at [762] .
If the forums at warumdarum.de want to risk that, it is their business.

You can contact each other via PM, but we will delete any reference to distribution links of copyrighted material in our forums.

If there ever is a legal, self made standalone for an Forgotten Hope game, we will gladly spread the word, that is no question. We just hope that there will be a new CD Key- or other security system with it, because if not it will be next to impossible to run a decent server without having lots of admins watching it every evening and re-banning the trouble makers over and over again (what we are doing right now).

Regards,
x4fun I<ODIUM>I

Thanks a lot, Flippy. We'll post the stuff in here from now on.
 :)

Oh, and please run your FH2 Community Updater, everyone.

Our [762]RANKED #1 FH2+CMP [100p] server runs the CMP
mixed with the vanilla maps, again. 72 different maps in a
newly generated map rotation each day. + Lots of new 16p and 32p
map layers for the less populated hours of the day. Stop by! ;)

11
Well...it kind of...is out now.

Run your updater thingie, oh brave folks of the villages, towns and shires.

12
It is simply like this: I did not accuse, I asked questions. Read and prove me wrong.
So I will not edit anything that I have said in the above posts.

May I quote my post:
We do not pay ourselves money. What money did buy the games licenses that you guys
used to hand out on your big raffles? Where did the money come from? Where did the thousands
of Euros from the donation drives each year go? Into stable gaming servers for FH2? Really?

Some food for thought...

If you do not want these questions to be asked, you could have simply
been more transparent in your finances. If you ask for big amounts
of money, people will get interested in what you spend it on.

If Quicksilver says that the money was not spent on raffles, then I do* believe him.
The problem is the intransparency in the FHT financing that lead to all these questions
being asked - not just by me.

No, Stronkie, telling people to edit their posts just because you do not like what you
read about your own community - that is not transparency.

Thanks to buddydog for his reply. That was a constructive one.
Now let's get on with it and build some FH2 tournaments.
Whatever the names are. As said, [762] will allow each party,
FHT and CMP gaming to advertise in our forums.

13
As server and later community admin, I've learned not to take sides. Even if all that it does,
is to disappoint people who want something from me. As long as it is necessary to get
something good built and realized, it is sensible to stay impartial. No matter how much dirt people
throw at me because of that.

That is how we built [762], that is how we built the CMP group. We.
But if [FHT] vs CMP-Gaming is a fight that should ever be happening,
I know with what people my allegiance will be and where I will play.

I have all respect for buddydog and his efforts to keep the sinking ship afloat.
I salute that. If he wants to keep advertising [FHT] on the [762] forums, I will not
obstruct him. The "tournament" section in our forums is open to all communities
who play FH2 and FH1.

But I will not take part in nor personally support any campaign that bears the name
Forgotten Honor ever again. My reasons for that have been stated in a certain
"What's new in February" - thread on the [FHT] forums. The reasons are named
"Dutch", "Lister" and "Korsakov".

In German, there is a saying that however you call into the woods, the echo
will come back out the same way.

To Mr. Korsakov and his request to join - why would I take the same woodboring beetle
that made my old ship sink back onto the new one? I'm not in charge to decide that,
but if I were, you would not be allowed in for the next hundred years.

On financing matters: we manage to host [762] and all the servers with a few hundred Euros
per year - because we don't bloat our expenses. Because we have people who host us for free.
People whom we pay back with free of charge work, help and support. A big thanks to the =DGC=
clan (Die German Crew) on this point.

We do not pay ourselves money. What money did buy the games licenses that you guys
used to hand out on your big raffles? Where did the money come from? Where did the thousands
of Euros from the donation drives each year go? Into stable gaming servers for FH2? Really?

Some food for thought...

We work and put in our time for free to make [762] run. And whatever you were insinuating
by your comments further up - by simply avoiding taking back you, Lister and Dutch, I am
confident that the CMP-gaming community will not ever handle the player's donations
in the way Forgotten Honor did.

But what do I know about money, right?
Have a nice whatever...

Dear Mr. "Korsakov". Since you try to claim intellectual property rights here in some FHT maps and are
threatening to sue people. Which of the maps, which of the models of the FH2 mod have you actually invested any work in, yourself? Please be precise.

1. Name the intellectual property that you may be claiming (if you claim anything instead of making any vague accusations).

2. Prove the intellectual property rights (yes, actual rights) that were defined and secured (!) in an applicable frame of law. That means definitive names of people who built maps. Names of people who can prove that they built the maps. Same goes for objects, models, vehicles, weapons, etc. Names of people who can prove that they did forbid altering of maps (on what base of law, please also add that).

Name the tools that they used to create their ma...oh dear. BF2 editor. Again. I guess EA will have to sue us at CMP. Then you guys at FHT. Then FH2. Then all other BF2 mods.

3. Prove in a court of law that you've made a business out of selling content at FHT.
No, "donation drives" and raffles for games that you buy from the money raised on these donation drives -raffles designed to hand these games out to your own staff - that is not a business.

Spending several hundreds up to 1000€ out of your "budget" (you called it that) and more per year on non-defined "other costs" - that is not a business. That is just intransparency.

4. Prove a definitive and actual commercial damage.

5. TRY ( mark the wording here) enforcing this in any court in the EU. Just try it.

I will watch you with interest, Mr. Korsakov. Where are you living at, actually - Russia, USA, Holland, Great Britain? That seems to change from time to time. So you may want to clear this up first before considering going to court.

While you sort this out to back up your bombastic claims of "Faxes being exchanged" (sic), I will get my popcorn. Lots of it.

15
Which legal issues? Every map that was created with the BF2 editor is property of Electronic Arts.
That goes for CMP maps, FHT maps, WaW maps, FH2 maps...just saying.
