A new version is long past due. So I have plans to get a couple of things solid and I'll try to pop out the next version. My main issue is that once I finish a little project for my mod, I already began another one and I feel like I need to finish that one, the process just repeats. But I'm going to come to a good stopping point and release a new version.

The Foothold at Eindhoven

In broad daylight the three parachute infantry regiments of the 101st Airborne Division descended with amazing accuracy on designated drop zones in Nazi-occupied Holland. It was September 17, 1944, and the Screaming Eagles were to play a vital role in Operation Market-Garden. Once the Allied armies had broken out of their D-Day beachhead and through the bocage, or hedgerow country, of France, they advanced rapidly. Disorganized German units retreated before them.

Fixed fortifications, known as the Siegfried Line or West Wall, barred a direct strike into Germany itself. In the northern area of Allied operations, British Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery had devised an ambitious plan to outflank the Siegfried Line and facilitate a drive directly into the Ruhr, the industrial heart of Germany. Montgomery's plan relied on the First Allied Airborne Army, of which the U.S. XVIII Airborne Corps, including the 101st and 82nd Airborne divisions, was a part. The commander of this army was Lt. Gen. Lewis H. Brereton.




The U.S. airborne troops, who had participated in the D-Day operations, had been resting and absorbing replacements in England since mid-July. For Market-Garden, it was hoped that the Americans, along with the British 1st Airborne Division, would launch a bold strike across the Maas, Waal and Neder Rijn (Rhine) rivers in Holland that would pave the way for ground troops to advance swiftly into Germany and end the war by Christmas of 1944.

Key to the success of Montgomery's plan would be the seizure of bridges across rivers and adjacent canals by the airborne troops and swift movement of ground forces up a single highway, spanning roughly 60 miles from the Allied lines in Belgium to the Dutch town of Arnhem. The troops would hold the bridges until relief appeared in the form of the British XXX Corps charging down the single road, crossing the bridges successively and arriving at Arnhem as the vanguard of a larger force pushing southeast into Germany.

The 101st would secure the southernmost bridges, including one over the Wilhelmina Canal at the town of Son, a pair spanning the Dommel River at St. Oedenrode and then four more over the Aar River near the town of Veghel. Eindhoven was also to be captured while the men of the 101st held open 15 miles of the road toward Arnhem for the XXX Corps' use. By the end of their service in Market-Garden, the men of the 101st would refer to this stretch of road as 'Hell's Highway.' Farther north, the 82nd Airborne was ordered to capture the bridge at Grave, the longest in Europe. The 82nd would also take one or more of the four bridges across the Maas-Waal Canal, another bridge over the Waal at Nijmegen and the area around the town of Groesbeek. The final leg of the XXX Corps' drive involved a dash from Nijmegen to Arnhem, where the British 1st Airborne was to capture and hold three bridges across the Rhine.

SU-85
A soviet self-propelled gun. Production started in 1943, and the first vehicles reached their units by August. SU-85 was a modification of the earlier SU-122 self-propelled howitzer, essentially replacing the 122 mm M-30S howitzer of the SU-122 with a D-5T high-velocity 85 mm antitank gun.

BF 109 G-2
The G-2, which started production in May 1942, lacked the cabin pressurization and GM-1 installation. New  But it closely resembled the Bf 109 F-4 and carried the same basic armament. The newly fitted Daimler-Benz DB 605A engine was a development of the DB 601E engine utilised by the preceding Bf 109F-4; displacement and compression ratio were increased as well as other detail improvement. It can be found in Bocage, Bombing The Reich-1943, Kasserine Pass-1943 and Prokhorovka-1943 maps.



Eierhandgranate M39
Introduced in 1939 and produced until the end of World War II. There were two variants: 4 seconds delay and 7.5. The colour of the cap indicated the burning time of the type of fuse fitted. Blue meant 4 sec., yellow - 7.5 sec. It was decided to make a random grenade selection system for each German class. So, with the new respawn you have a new type of grenade. It can be EiHgr.39 with 4 (blue cap) or 7.5 seconds delay (yellow cap) and Stielhandgranate 24. Eierhandgranate M39 and Nebelhandgranate 39 were taken from FH Fan Mappack #6.

Some new textures has been added: BF 109 E, F-4, flags, etc.



Various fixes
Maybe even the main place in new version was reserved for different fixes and improvements. Here are some:
- Decreased camera shaking (recoil) for light and medium tank guns
- Fixed SU-122 texture, wreck; changed projectile force
- Fixed bug with smoke and fire at tank spawn
and many other.

AI
- Added AI to Omaha Charlie Sector
- Fixed T19HMC errors which caused Desert Rose-1942 and some other maps crash; M3A1 Stuart errors; etc.

Das Battlegoup42-Team meldet sich zurück mit einer stabil laufenden Webseite und einem ebensolchen Gameserver: Nach all den Problemen und dem Gefummel hat sich schließlich herausgestellt, dass eine defekte Hardware die Ursache für die Störungen und Abstürze war. Wir möchten uns an dieser Stelle bei allen bedanken, die uns mit Rat und Tat zur Seite gestanden haben, und hier ganz besonders Grabbi vom PFC-Team. Nun aber wird es wieder Zeit für eine News über neue Inhalte der finalen Battlegroup42-Version 1.8, und darum wollen wir euch hier drei neue Modelle vorstellen.




Genaugenommen sind es keine ganz neuen Modelle: Alle drei sind den Battlegroup42-Spielern seit langem bekannt. Aber wir haben die Gelegenheit genutzt, sie durch neue, bessere Modelle zu ersetzen und unsere Mod damit aufzuwerten.

Besonders nötig hatte diese Verbesserung ein wichtiges Element der Japanischen Marineluftwaffe: Unser bisheriges Modell des Trägerangriffsbombers Nakajima B5N "Kate" war alt und recht grob, selbst nach BF1942-Vanilla-Standards. Unser Modeller RuppDee hat hier nun Abhilfe geschaffen und ein fantastisches neues Modell der "Kate" vorgelegt. Es verfügt über zwei ebenfalls von RuppDee erstellte Skinvarianten jeweils für die frühe Phase des Pazifikkrieges und für die späte Phase. Die Nakajima B5N war zu Beginn des 2. Weltkrieges der modernste Trägerbomber der Welt. Als Torpedoflugzeug und Horizontalbomber spielte sie eine wichtige Rolle bei allen bedeutenden Schlachten des Pazifikkrieges, von Pearl Harbour im Jahr 1941 bis zum Kampf um die Philippinen im Herbst 1944. Zu dieser Zeit war sie auf den großen Trägern bereits weitgehend durch ihre Nachfolgerin B6N "Tenzan" ersetzt worden. Einige Maschinen wurden noch 1945 von kleineren Geleitträgern oder Landbasen aus eingesetzt. Neben ihrer MG-Bewaffnung konnte die "Kate" einen 800-Kilo-Torpedo oder 800 Kilo Bombenlast tragen.

Nakajima B5N "Kate"



Das zweite neue Modell ist ebenfalls ein Bomber und ersetzt ein bereits vorhandenes Flugzeug: Gemeint ist die Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka". Über diesen legendären deutschen Sturzkampfbomber und Schlachtflieger müssen wir hier sicher keine weiteren Erläuterungen schreiben. Bislang flog in Battlegroup42 noch das Modell aus dem BF1942-Originalspiel. Im Fundus der aufgegebenen BGF-Mod fanden wir kürzlich ein deutlich besseres, sehr schön detailliertes Modell einer Ausführung B welche von petemonster erstellt wurde, mit dem wir die alte Mühle in Rente schicken konnten. Sarge Surfat lieferte noch je eine Skinvariante für die italienische und die ungarische Luftwaffe dazu, Sarge31FR steuerte einen Wüstenskin für die deutsche Luftwaffe bei.


Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka"




Bei unserer dritten Modellvorstellung handelt es sich um eine stationäre Waffe, die von fast allen am 2. Weltkrieg beteiligten Nationen in Lizenz gebaut und vorwiegend zur Luftabwehr eingesetzt wurde: die 2cm Maschinenkanone vom Typ Oerlikon. Auch sie war bereits in BG42 vorhanden, beispielsweise als Schiffsflak, wird nun aber durch ein detaillierteres Modell von RuppDee ersetzt. Es gibt sie außerdem in einer Zwillingsausführung.

Churchill Kangaroo



The Kangaroo was an APC variant of the Churchill tank. For this purpose the turret was dropped and the opening closed. The Kangaroo concept proved to be very successful and was first used by the Canadians who used obsolete M7 Priest‘s. It was then quickly adopted by the Brits.

Inside of the Churchill Kangaroo is room for a driver, a machine gun operator and four soldiers. The armor protection and climb ability is clearly superior to the regular M3 half-track, the overall speed is significantly lower though. There are also variants that have the additional armor which was introduced in a previous news. That makes the Churchill Kangaroo even more durable and gives you the opportunity to transport infantry savely even through heavy enemy fire.




Churchill ARV

Although looking very similar to the Kangaroo the Churchill ARV has a completely different task. It’s a recovery tank and has therefore the same ability as the already available Bergetiger. That means you can repair friendly vehicles if you’re close to them. Because of the good protection and low silhouette it’s possible to repair them even during battles and tip the balance in your favor!




ISU-T/ISU APC

The ISU-T was a russian recovery vehicle based on the ISU-122. It also comes without the main armament and has the same repair ability as the Churchill ARV but is a bit faster and can so keep up with other tanks easier. The 12.7 mm DShK machine gun on top has more power and is also more flexible than the Churchill’s Besa but the operator isn’t safe from infantry weapons.


Another new vehicle is the APC variant of the ISU-T. It looks very similar and offers seats for four people inside.




Chi-Ha APC

Another derived APC, this time based on the Chi-Ha. It doesn’t really offer the same protection as the Churchill or ISU and is only armed with a Type 97 7.7 mm bow machine gun.



All the APC’s can also appear as a mobile spawnpoint on the map, either permanent or temporarily via mouse click from the driver. In addition he has the chance to drop a machine gun kit from the back of the tank.

For the recovery tanks there’s a new vehicle icon on the mini-map to help you finding them in the heat of a battle.

General Discussion / FHSW: Big Preview to the 0.5 update!

You take a whole battery of Russian tanks and howitzers, light American tanks, a Russian aircraft project and a light Japanese cruisers. In addition, a sprinkling of new features and the new version of forgotten hope secret weapon (FHSW) is finished.[/ b] The new build is the number 0.5 and is still in the beta phase, but during the last few weeks a number of interesting updates were published in the blog the developer immediately. We have summarized the most important for you.

A lot of new tanks

Go there with the idea of Russian tanks of the type T-28 and T-29, the Frank has contributed. weiningen has snapped up the IS-2 from FH 0.7 and on the basis of the model created two versions of heavy tank IS-3. From FHSWman comes the S-51, a howitzer of B-4 type mounted on the chassis of the KV-1s from FH 0.7. Yahagi and Sweno project

Today, I have to send you a joyful message.
Before a few days came out the new Mappack 1.9 for silent heroes.
It contains 29 maps.
It includes new maps, which have been manufactured by the SH [OPFS] community.
The Mappack is played always on Fridays (conquest) from 8 pm to the open end.

I bring to the public eye for the first time a mod for Battlefield 1942 that I've been working on for 2+ years. Only recently did I find out that some leading members of the BFH dev team have indicated that they would be ok with me giving it a mention here. (download link at bottom if you do not want to read all of this post)

This mod started out as my "playground" of sorts to bring in my own ideas to Battlefield Heroes without altering the original game (or spamming up the suggestions forum. Tongue). I kept it (mostly) true to the style of heroes but with some "enhancements" of my own design. It soon evolved into a full blown conversion mod that completely transforms BF1942 into the cartoony heroes game we all come to love.

First major difference is that this brings a new perspective to the game: First person shooting.

It was one of the main things that drove me to create this mod. I had wanted to see what this game would be like in first person view. As we all know by now, Battlefield Heroes will always be a third person game.

So now after 2 years of porting objects, maps, vehicles and some of the hand-weapons, v3.0 represents the peak of my BF1942 modding knowledge. While other mods I have made for this game engine like DCU and BF242 are other peoples mods that I brought enhancements to, I built this mod from the ground up. Of coarse most things like textures, meshes, static objects and the like came from Battlefield Heroes, 99% of the coding and extras I've put into the mod were of my own design.

But I alone did all the work in converting all the stuff in Heroes into the classic BF1942 engine with a little outside help here and there in terms of getting content into the mod. (refer to credits in read-me file for sources of some of the stuff I've used in this mod)

Since I essentially built everything up in the mod coding wise, there are relatively few bugs compared to some of the other big mods out there that had full on dev teams. It isn't bug free, but compared a few other mods I had a hand in (BF242 and DCU) it's almost squeaky clean. Tongue

There are a few I'm aware of but feel free to report any you find when trying out the mod. Note that Windows Vista/7 users may have CTD issues. Though it has run fine for me in Windows 7 64-bit, you may need to try running the mod with compatibility settings or in admin mode if you have consistent CTD issues.


Here is what the mod has:

1. All maps as of (excluding a few winter conversions that I did not think was up to par or worth porting over) February 1, 2012 converted and with full singleplayer AND multiplayer support.
2. Realistic night map conversions rendered with 3D Studio Max to produce high quality lightmaps that brings new life to the old BF1942 engine.
3. Weather Fx like snow and rain.
4. All vehicles ported.
5. The basic line up of hand-weapons ported over. Basically all the default weapons are present in the mod including a few of the "dapper" version of the weapons that will make a random appearence in your inventory when you spawn in a map.
6. The soldier meshes from the pre-closed beta era of the BFheroes game. The current soldier meshes used in BFHeroes are a hodge-podge of multiple customization objects that would be nearly impossible to put together in a coherent mesh that would be usable in BF1942.
7. All sound effects (excluding a few effects and vehicle engine sounds) also ported. That includes the new gameplay sound effects from the new CTF game mode and the classic horn sound effects for capturing/losing control points.
8. Some of the major game effects like ambient effects, vehicle smoke/fires, and impact decals also recreated. (some textures used, but the coding was recreated, not ported since BFH's game engine uses a very different coding scheme for it's effects vs BF1942's effect engine)
9. Major reworking of the ingame HUD and menu to make it closer to that of Battlefield Heroes.
10. CTF flags are animated meshes and have custom rigging and animations built by me. They are lifeless in BFheroes, but in my mod, they live and breath in the wind! Big Grin
11. My mod has BOATS. (only in multiplayer though as I have yet to get working AI set up for boats). You can find them in Wicked Wake and Wicked Wake Nights. The transport LCVPs and the "fishing boat from Perilous Port" make an appearance as usable vehicles. The fishing boats even have a cannon on board to keep enemy pirates at bay! Big Grin
10. Many other small details that would just take too much time to list off here.


Here's what the mod DOES NOT have:

1. Super/Uber versions of handweapons and "modern" weapons (excluding the m249/PKM which is now present in the mod as a stationary weapon for vehicles). I have no plans what so ever to port these handweapons. The ones the mod now has are enough. BF1942 has a slew of modern stuff like Desert Combat, as such it isn't the focus of this mod.
2. Exotic widgets/abilities. Things like hero shield and blasting strike to name a few just won't work in BF1942 due to the age of the game engine. I ported things that could be made to work in BF1942. That's all there is too it.
3. Hero customization. Don't ask for this. Will never work in BF1942. Another engine limitation. That and my mod isn't geared towards the level of customization that BFH has. If you want to dress up your heroes and such, use the real game for that. Tongue
4. Radical new features/vehicles not present in the real game. Sorry, no helicopters or spaceships. If BFH doesn't have it, my mod won't have it. There are some few rare exceptions like night/winter conversions of maps not present in the real game and the ice sheet in Perilous Port Winter, but I won't stray too far from what the official game has. If something makes it's way into the official game, then of coarse I will work to bring it to my mod as well.
5. 100% accurate recreation of the game's lighting and vegetation. Two major things with this mod that will differ from the real game. One, the lighting isn't exact. My new revamped DDS format lightmapping takes things much closer then they were before, but don't expect it to be spot on. As for the trees....sorry about that, nothing I can do. BF1942 does support leaf sprites with it's treeMesh system, but the BFH trees just won't work in BF1942 as it is now. The sprite system freaks out and CTDs the game with all my attempts to make it work. Either faulty 3DS Scripts or engine limitations are to blame. Most likely it's how the sprite meshes are UVMapped that doesn't agree with how BF1942 is used to doing things. Tongue
6. Rockets in HoTH maps (Midnight Mayhem being the only one) don't launch when the round ends. BF1942 has no way of scripting this. So have no plans on making that work. This is also why am not adding HoTH mode to any other maps other then Midnight Mayhem.
7. Classic BF1942 maps like Berlin, El Alamein to name a few. Adding these maps to the mod is more then possible. I just lack the assets needed to do this. I do not have the mesh creation skills nor the texturing skills needed to make all the vanilla BF1942 statics with the BFH cartoony look needed for them to be used in the mod. I am working on using BFH statics on El Alamein for recreation of the map, but that's about as far as I go. El Alamein is not ready for v3.0 and is far from finished. Don't expect this map to appear for quite some time.
8. 90% of the customization items. Porting the thousands+ different items that are in BFHeroes into BF1942 would be both impractical and ridicules. Ignoring the fact that the BF1942 engine lacks the customization features of BFH, converting all those items into the mod is just a waste of time and isn't a focus of my mod. I did a few of them to improve the aesthetics of the mod, but not much beyond that.



Change log for v3.0:

1. Added new winter ambiance to non night winter maps.
2. Added new maps: Wicked Wake and Perilous Port.
3. Added more static objects. (for use in Wicked Wake and possible future maps)
4. Added new ambient sound effects for Wicked Wake and Royal Rumble.
5. Added invisible weapon to Soccer Ball widget that will allow players to "kick" the ball by right clicking while aiming at it (with the Soccer Ball widget equipped that is).
6. Re-did most lightmaps for most maps. Now uses DDS format lightmaps with better lighting to look more like BFH.
7. Re-sized level thumbnail frame and level thumbnail. Level thumbnails regenerated for all maps to account for this change.
8. Major retweak of damage system for all weapons.
9. Redid lightcone mesh of the lighthouse on night maps.
10. Added new boat vehicles for both teams on Wicked Wake. A converted LVCP (skins courtasy of Christhian from GFMod dev team) for small transport and a converted version of the boats from Perilous Port for use as mobile base spawns.
11. Flags on fishing boat vehicle (for Royal team only) have been animated to sway in the wind. Big Grin
12. Improved detail in water textures. Added some small random pixal noise to the watertemp texture and saved it as two different textures. (each with a different pattern). This will allow me to turn on water layer scrolling and it adds more definition to the water without losing the cartoony look of the water. ;D
13. Added alternate uniform colors for body and legs. Will be randomized in manner similar to customization items.
14. Added new CTF Flags and flagbase from new BFH CTF mode recently added to the real game.
15. New boat vehicles will now have cannons mounted on a modified mesh copied from the AA stationary weapon.
16. Added Winter conversion of Perilous Port. Added custom made ice mesh to have part of the water frozen over for a unique gameplay element.
17. Added updated CTF game-mode sound effects for capture flag events.
18. Fixed missing child object CTD on new soldier templates for Midnight Mayhem.
19. Added LCVP as transport boats in CTF/TDM/Conquest modes for Wicked Wake. (LCVPs will NOT be available in singleplayer!)
20. Ported M249 and PKM as stationary weapons for the LCVP and the gunner position of the tanks. New sound effects for this weapon also ported over.


Requirements:

One main thing you will need is Battlefield 1942. If you don't have it, just go out and buy a copy. It's ultra cheap now and is a classic. No reason for you not to have it. Tongue

Also make sure you have it patched with the last of the patches they released for it. Punkbuster should also be updated (though you will need to find the manual updater for it as Punkbuster no longer provides update files for BF1942)

Stats acquired in this mod have no impact on stats in the official game. Just a heads up to the newbies out there.

IS-3
The IS-3 was developed by the Soviet Union and was the successor of the famous IS-2. Both share the same cannon and suspension. The main difference is the improved armour layout, and a hemispherical cast turret (resembling an overturned soup bowl) which became the hallmark of post-war Soviet tanks.
The IS-3 came too late to see action in World War II. Though some older sources claim that the tank saw action at the end of the war in Europe or Manchuria, there are no official reports to confirm this.



IS-3 with 122 mm cannon D-30T
This variant carries the very powerful D-30T cannon which was initally thought as main weapon for the IS-6.
In FHSW it is also euquipped with a mechanical loading system which makes him fire around 1.5 times faster than the regular IS-3. The fire power of the cannon is similar to the BL-9 of the existing SU-122BM and is able to take 1/3 of the Maus‘s health per shot if you hit the right spot.

All tank cannons get a more realistic muzzle flash depending on caliber, projectile velocity and the presence or absence of a muzzle break.



Jagdpanther with autoloader
A new Jagdpanther variant with a mechanical reloading device will be available in the next version. It’s a magazine based system with five shells per mag. There’s a delay of only 0.7 seconds between each shot, but reloading the magazine takes long twelve seconds. The optical appearance remains the same.

S-51
The S-51 was an attempt to make the heavy 203-mm-howitzer B-4 mobile by using the KV-1S chassis. While testing in April 1944 the transmission had serious problems with the high recoil of the gun which couldn't be fixed.
In FHSW the S-51 can be used for close support of tanks and infantry or simply as artillery to fire from great distances using the binocs.



Sturmpanther
This is a special variant of the Panther armed with the StuH 43 from the Sturmpanzer IV „Brummbär“. Only plans existed, no prototype was built.
It has several advantages over the „Brummbär“, it’s faster, better armored and has a turret. The cannon is supposed to be used against infantry but you have the option to load HEAT shells to fight tanks. The projectile drops very fast which makes fighting over large distances a bit awkward though.



Churchill with improved armor
Some Churchill crews improved their armor by simply adding tracks to various parts of the tank.
This makes the Churchill in FHSW a lot more durable, the side armor is 110 mm thick, so you need at least a Pak 40 to be able to penetrate the side this rolling bunker.



Valentine Mk. VIII
The Mk. VIII is equipped with a 6-pounder instead of the 2-pounder. To fit this gun into the turret the coaxial machine gun had to be dropped.



Valentine Gap Jumping Tank
This extreme tank was developed to overcome trenches or other obstacles. Eight rockets were attached to the tank that generated enough power to take-off for a few seconds. Further developement was cancelled because it would not often land right side up.
You launch the rockets with the alternate fire key and maneuver with WASD. You can fly about 20 meters before the rockets overheat. Be aware that there’s a risk that the tank lands on its top when the ground isn’t flat.

Off-Topic / EoD 2.40: released for the 10 year anniversary!

Founded in 2002 EoD is getting 10 years old now.
It has been the first released mod for Battlefield 1942 and still has players all around the world!

Some guys of the team went to EA in the early years of the century and maybe they worked on BF-2, BC:Vietnam or BF-3, we just don't know.

EoD was growing from it's first release and got a lot of help from the community and other mods, especially from Battlegroup42, US Intervention MOD, Forgotten Hope and many many others.



Also EoD got famous cause of the nice music that was made just for the mod.
The talented musicians were Prozac Ltd., M'busy'Most and last but not least Taichi and some of us hear their music while driving car or at home.

But the most important help was the help from our players, from YOU.
Without your suggestions the mod wouldn't live anymore and no one would be motivated to improve anything.

Right now we want to say THANK YOU!

Very important!
It's a full version so you need to manually uninstall and delete any older version of EoD before installation!

Otherwise the game may crash or you can't connect to any server.



With Infinite map we've got one of the largest map Battlefield 1942 ever has seen.
We just know about one released map with that size of 4096x4096 but don't know if it ever was played anywhere.

The huge map is 4x as big as Operation Hastings so it will take a while to learn every mile of the landscape.

But we don't release anything as an 'experiment' and of course the map was well tested and special thanks go to my little son Sven (SirVen|EoD) for testing some hours with me and fixing all dificiencies.
He was the first who found the hidden easter egg in that map and we had a lot of fun, especially about his aerial acrobatics

Today, the Battlegroup42 team is greeting the community with a special news: We are offering you version 1.8 beta for download! Since we don't have enough beta testers to thoroughly test this extremely vast version with 171 maps, we have decided to make the beta public. Now we are hoping for a lot of feedback and bug reports, and of course our Battlegroup42 server is running this build from now on.



As you know, we wanted to release the final version 1.8 of Battlegroup42 prior to Christmas, as a gift to our fans and those who might become fans. But since our mappers were unstoppable in their productivity, and with our modellers still having some unfinished highlights up their sleeve which definitely have to be in the mod, we decided on a compromise: 1.8 public beta. With that we're hoping to gather enough testers to test the maps regarding balancing and gameplay in online multiplayer mode. After evaluation of all bug reports a final version of Battlegroup42 is planned. By that time, with a little luck, we should be able to present you first impressions of our Unreal engine based development.

Talking about presentations: For BG42 1.8 beta, there's some new candy too - besides some new maps which we're not previewing here, there are two new models: The gigantic Panzerkampfwagen VIII "Maus" and the, in comparison, tiny Flakpanzer I. "What, a Maus ? Didn't they always resist in creating that thing for Battlegroup42 ?" some of you might say right now - and that's right. But our modeller GeronimoGer started a model of this tank some time ago which at first was to be used as a static model only, but never finished. Our modeller RuppDee took care of the model, finished it and created the textures.



At the same time SargeSurfat created a map called "Mouse Roars", a special, half-fictive map only for this super tank. It was modelled after the "Heeresversuchsanstalt Kummersdorf" (army testing and proving ground) and is about its conquering of the Soviet Army. During its defence the Germans used not only a lot of captured vehicles but also their heaviest tanks - King Tiger, Jagdtiger and two "Maus".



The second model we're showing you today also comes from our pool of unfinished models: The Flakpanzer I was originally created by Koricus, and now made usable for Battlegroup42. Kraetzer finalized the texture and changed our 2 cm Flak 38 to fit the tiny hull. The Flakpanzer I was an improvised vehicle - it was built when the need for mobile anti air defence arose during the Battle of France. In 1941 the Fla.-Btl.(mot) 614 was equipped with this tank and in the following used on the southern part of the Eastern Front - mostly in costly battles against ground targets. The Battalion was completely annihilated during the Battle of Stalingrad. You can find the Flakpanzer I on some of the Eastern Front maps between August 1941 and January 1943.

BFH doesn't have any buildings with interiors, so unless they suddenly make any, I don't plan on adding something like that.


I've finished the ice mesh and got it ingame and everything's lightmapped. I will do the minimap and add singleplayer to it next. After I finish this one I will wait for EA to make the day version of the map so I can finally finish the original night version. v3.0 still won't have my El Alamein conversion yet as I have not worked further on it so far. Been too busy with other things. But that map will likely be in the next version after this one. :D

If an unlucky soldier finds him self slipping into one of the cracks in the ice they will meet an immediate death. (mostly since if you fall in the cracks you wouldn't be able to get out anyway.
