Title: How to Avoid Teamkills for dummies!
Post by: BaskaBommi on 19-10-2012, 14:10:59
As a professional accidential teamkiller/TK-victim, I decided to start a topic, so that everyone can share their best tricks how to avoid pumping your own guys full of lead (or fire/HE/AT/water/mines etc.)

Some of my tricks I use

    1. LOOK AT THE MINIMAP!
It is annoying when people storm in friendly houses or bunkers and manage only to finish off a couple of friendlies. A quick peek at the minimap may sometimes be even better way to identify friend or foe than uniforms.

    2. 3D map info
Yes, 3D map is less informative in FH2 than in vanilla-BF2, but still it is a good way to check who is who in the battlefield. Especially the S-Mines shoud be acknowleged by this way.

    3. Flamethrower
Caution! It's hot! - Flames will kill anyone and running in front of a flamer is a bad idea. Also keep in mind, that flames fly in an arc and they do some sort of splash damage so don't W+M1 with it, save it for Team Fortress 2.

    4. HE rounds
When in a tank, be careful and aim steady. If infantry is charging at a building, use your MG to provide cover.

    5. S-Mines [AP-mines]
Placing them demands strategy, so don't be a douche and place them behind every corner of the house. It might help you to hold a building when you are alone or you are swarmed by enemies, but remember, that S-Mines basically deny all reinforcements untill all of them either blow up or disappear. Keep at least one path clear, when you try to defend a house.

    6. Uniforms
WW2 was one of the last wars, where general diffrencies between uniforms were notable. Take your time to learn similarities in dressing between fellow soldiers, if you don't seem to know who is who.
    Some easy points
Germans - Stalhelm - From Somme to Berlin, the German Heer has used them to keep their boys safe.
British - Broadie - From Ypres to Palestine. Hard not to notice or keep in mind.
Italians - Reddish Brown or light dirt-coloured uniforms
Americans - Olive/Limegreen uniforms and helmet. a GP Standard uniform for those GI's.
ANZAC - Same as the British.

Here are my tips, where are yours?

7. Why is he shouting in your language?
Because he is one of your boys, STOP SHOOTING!

8. Set mines sensibly.
Don't lay an AP mine in some random location where your team just needs to guess where it would be.

9. Its a regular mine area, put your 3D map ON.
If you died in a stair well held by your team, its your damn fault.

10. You missed the hole, now start running and shouting.
You toss a nade, and MISS, now its in the same room as you squad. Instantly flee and scream so people flee too.

11. Owww. You killed me, a**hole.
Say sorry when you accidentally kill your teammate. Its just common courtesy.

12. Sometimes, it can't be helped. Don't punish.
TKs in a WWII game like FH2 are unavoidable some times. Don't immediately hit the Punish key because it pissed you off. Evaluate the situation. Also, sometimes a person is actively fighting and will apologise a bit later. Just wait before you hit that button. And what's so wrong with pardoning someone, hmmm?

13. Don't be a tit.
Play sensible. Avoid TKs that could so easily be avoided.
Exercise your sick, juvenile kicks elsewhere. Don't deliberately TK.
    As srtated in Pt. 12

14. Don't be an ass.
If you fire a 75mm HE shell in a town where both your boys and the enemy are, that is just dumb.
If you're firing mortar and artillery, watch the fricking map.
If you're tossing a nade, watch the situation. Only bots toss nades without care for those around them.

15. It helps to play logically.
You are pinned by an mg. Your squad is against the wall. Someone might toss a nade.
        So don't just charge in.
You are entering a room that was held by enemy units. Someone MIGhT toss a nade.
You are engaging an enemy in the tower while stuck on the staircase. SOMEONE MIGHT TOSS A NADE.

16. Don't - throw - nades - uphill

17. Watch where you put AT bombs - Especially with friends around.

18. Get used to NOT being able to fire out windows with zookas or tossing nades and bombs through SMALL HOLES - Its elementary after your first 2 games.

19: When trying to chuck a grenade through a door, approach the door from the left at a slight right facing angle.
If this still doesn't work, apply 10.

20: Call out if you go into a church tower, so you don't get TK'd by the gazillion HE shells that are involuntarily attracted to church towers, it being a known location for snipers and idiots.

Most important is situation awareness.
Know where your teammates are, know where the enemy is.
You can be sure that anyone or anything that is moving from the enemy position towards your position is an enemy.

you also have to watch where the tank is firing at to not cross his line of fire

Learned this one early...when on arty, and assuming you look at the target in the view before firing, if you are unsure who that is running around because the uniforms look similar on that map, use smoke instead then use the team chat during the re-load to ask if it is safe to use HE.

With the new arty system you can see the spots on the map and then check arrows, too :)

Wouldn't say that. Anyway, like 3 weeks after stat reset this statistic does not tell you a lot ;)

I really dont mind TK with normal weapons, mortars, or guys jumping on my smines... specially if they say sorry.

But man, one type of TK that makes me rage quit instantly is when you are in a tank, and either a friendly tank or plane kills you... I mean, i have been playing FH2 since 2009 and im more than sure that i have never made such a TK. Few days ago i was on a crusader in superchange, kinda isolated and sniping the axis panzers, and then i hear the beaufighter coming...  >:(

I cant tell how many times people shot me in a cromwell.....

One tip that do wonders in infantry TK or vehicle TK... CHECK THE FREAKING MINIMAP

You have to put the teamkills into a relation to the playtime as other numbers in that statistic (score per minute etc.). Otherwise it is just an accumulated number of teamkills per player and you get faked results. There could be someone with only five teamkills, but played for only thirty seconds. I hope this explains the problem.
