MG legs? - Need help
« on: 31-05-2010, 15:05:32 »
This maybe a stupid question but I don't know how to use the contraption shown in the picture below:

On some servers (hslan) I found the "legs" as in shown in pic A and on other servers the "legs" are occupied by an MG which you can use by pressing E. (as shown in pic B)

How can I use the "legs" in pic A? (if possible)
What kit do I need to have?

It's just a simple curiosity but its been nagging at me for quite some time.

On picture A you have destroyed mg emplacement and on picture B you have intact one. Use wrench to repair the emplacement.

to use the "legs" in pic A
get a wrench an repaired the destroyed MG
when you are done it will like like in pic B

finding the "repair-point" can be a bit hard since it is very small on those fixed MGs

Wouldn't that be possible though, to make a fixed MG point usable for MG/Support kits? Like you "enter" the fixed position (just the legs then) with your MG34 and can use it as such.
With the Bren and BAR it's no problem firing out of a window or a trench but the germans/italians can only fire from a prone position. And even then, if you're lying on a roof for instance, a lot of time there's a ledge of some kind you can't aim over.

But I'm guessing I'm not the first one to come up with this and it's probably a programming/engine thing.
FH2 is the game, DarklyDreamingDexter is the name.

it basically would be possible to make every window and ledge like a vehicle you the can shoot out.
but the problems are:
- LAG/Netcode: BF2 allows only a certain amount of objects that are "tracked" by the server and their position is sycronized with all clients. this includes every vehicle (also static guns etc) and every moving part on them (including wheels, turrets, hatches, guns , MGs, etc), every pickupkit, every destructable thing etc etc.
adding too many of those will crash clients/servers and decrease general performance.

- you would need a special MG thingy to shoot them from those "window seats" because you cant zoom/iron sight with the MGs in those positions. thus affecting normal combat.

however the bigger problem is the lag stuff.

The vehicle solution will also probably affect other vehicles, too.

We've already got Kubelschrecks...want an effective Mg42 on there as well? The Jeep and Kubel all of a sudden become death machines.
