FH2 launch problem - WARNING!
« on: 13-04-2009, 20:04:52 »
Hello everyone,

I have recently wiped my hardisk and reinstalled BF2 with patch 1.41 and now installed FH2 version 2.15.
I am now running Vista but I had the same problems with XP on another computer.
When using the shortcut on the desktop to start FH2 I am shown a screen that says WARNING! you must start Forgotten Hope 2 using FH2.exe, not BF2.exe !

But the thing is: I am launching using FH2.exe

When this problem occured the last time I read the old FH forum and found some other gamers that had the exact same issue. If I can remember it correctly the root to the problem is the downloadable version of BF2 from EA Store. This version is not the same as the one on disc.
One member of the old forum solved or rather "got around" the problem by renaming some files and adding a command line to the shortcut.
Since the old forum is gone...I cannot get any further with my FH2 plans.

Please, if there is a kind soul that know how to fix this - please help me !  ;D

Best Regards,
Zorvik

You need to get yourself a copy of the BF2.exe from the DVD version in order to fix this problem.
I don't recall anything that helps in this case by just renaming some files.

Mind posting what you did, in order to help others coming here with the same problem?

First I created a couple of folders that was missing because of the EASTORE downloadable version of BF2 Complete Edition.

Folders named "cache", "cache-fh2" & "mods" should be created under documents/battlefield 2/

Under documents/battlefield 2/mods/
create a shortcut named bf2 and point it at your eagames/battlefield 2/mods/bf2 directory
create a shortcut named fh2 and point it at your eagames/battlefield 2/mods/fh2 directory

add +restart at the end of the command line to the fh2 shortcut on your desktop

I dont know if the following is necessary but for me running Vista maybe it could be a potential problem.
Make sure all directories, shortcuts and files is being runned as an administrator for your user - if not apply administrator rights to your user for the following directories.
eagames/battlefield 2/
documents/battlefield 2/

Well at least it worked for me... :)

Here you go. Just do this:

Or download the file.
A simple search would have helped you as well though.

Both solutions, dont work for me, if i do the solution of create folders, i still geting Warning screen. If i replace original digital exe for cd version donwloaded in filefront, i get a crash error.

I have Windows Vista 64bit with admin privieleges.

Thanks in advance!
