Off-Topic / Re: FH´s Music
« on: 08-04-2009, 01:04:26 »
Yes, what is the music ? Is it credited somewhere ? The period has some very unusual and moving performances. Battlegroup Fontlines also has some unusual Russian music in their last (final?) releases. I'll have to check the compressed archives ... maybe they are named in there.

Modding / Sandbag Shader (Nvidia) for other Mods.
« on: 08-04-2009, 01:04:08 »
I think this is an Nvidia problem only.

Is there a way of using the fixed FH Sandbag / wall shader for other mods I have installed ? Some maps in PR, DCon and other mods have the shimmering / mirror sandbags and walls problem. I am reluctant to turn down texture level as that does fix it but I feel like I'm being deprived of the full experience. I have asked this question elsewhere and have been told to "just find the fixed shader". But what do I do with it ?

Do you know about the FHSP beta over at BFSP ?

I guess that depends on what devs decide FH is best at, but at the moment it's interesting to discuss.

What about Sandbox Mod ?

If you go to my gallery then you can see what I built and how they use the Comma Rose, Squad commands and tab menu to select and place various objects. No waiting for "placing object" messages to finish.

I was using Sandbox and I remembered a classic arcade game I have. Rampart. It has build and attack / defend stages. There's a countdown for repairing destroyed defences.

There's a game in there somewhere involving sweaty and very hassled WW2 engineers  :-*

I agree with most of that, apart from the impression of the DD Sherman's overall failure. As the Wikipedia article put's it ..

In the event, the tank's record was a mixture of success and failure, although they are mainly remembered for their disastrous failure on Omaha Beach

By buggy, do you mean defences sometimes appearing too high off the ground with a hump underneath them ?

DJ B, I don't think I've ever had anyone make this kind of apology. It's extremely gracious of you, and denotes a sense of intellectual honesty and honor that just isn't seen that much these days. You are to be commended. But there was absolutely no need for any apology, though. I wasn't in the least offended - disagreements are just a  part of life.

Aha. I do these things that I assume everyone else does and then wonder why everyone is congratulating me .. lol. Thanks JumJum. I was not offended by the disagreement, it's just a sensitive subject.

As far as it sounding fishy, it's just that I've had long experience in these kinds of things, and when I hear a tremendously outrageous story of inconceivable violations of human dignity in the Western world, I have to wonder, "How did it get to that point before someone stopped it?" Unfortunately there's a lot of exaggeration in these things.

Tell me about it ! Yes, how did the situation with the Pharma and Psych industries get to this point ? There is Mindfreedom now who are protesting for proper rights. As far as I know the situation is the converse of what you are getting at. It's not that people don't protest it, or won't stand for it. The problem IMO is that the "patients" put up with almost anything from extreme torture to almost death with barely a squeak.

But here's the big secret. About two weeks I happened to think about this thread: "I certainly sounded like a know-it-all, cruel curmudgeon in that electroshock thread of DJ Barney's. I wonder if I leaped to an incorrect conclusion." Funny how things work.

It is funny. As I said. I'm not sure I would have looked as carefully at this case without your comments.

But all was ever well between us. Thanks and cheers.

Cheers Sir ;D

Off-Topic / JumJum you were right !
« on: 03-04-2009, 18:04:30 »
Hello,

I posted a topic back on the old forum asking for help with someone being subjected to electroshock. You can search the FF Off topic forum if you want to see it.

JumJum responded with a "there's something fishy going on here" or something to that effect. I must admit, to my shame, that I thought he had a bad attitude and lacked the morals to help this poor fellow. How wrong I was ! JumJum you actually pointed out something quite interesting as I have found.

See this FAQ about Ray Sandford ... http://www.mindfreedom.org/shield/ray/sandford-faq

Jump / search to the section "SINCE RAY IS AN OUTPATIENT IN A GROUP HOME, WHY DOESN'T HE JUST ESCAPE?".

Now, I appreciate where Mr Sandford is coming from. Who wants to be seperated from their family and friends ? But the logic does not hold. Why stay and risk being killed or permanently brain damaged by electroshock ? I appreciate Mr Sandford is under duress. Has possibly had mind changing Pharma drugs, not to mention the electroshock it's self. But I've seen this kind of thing before. I've seen people state they are being subjected to human rights abuses and torture but then they take little appropriate action to stop it.

Is this the "beaten wife" effect ? The victim assumes that if they just change their behaviour then the beating will stop, rather than admitting that a real abuser is victimising them.

So, thanks JumJum ... there is a little more to this case than meets the eye ;D

I don't think you'd get close enough to dump assets on top of the enemy. Although the making it smaller idea would fit very well into current FH, I was really thinking of another branch of FH. I think the comparisons to "he liked PR" are unfair. I would never want to make FH like PR ! I just never realised it was even possible to build in BF like that :)

Yes, smaller sounds better. I always blow things up to an absurdly large scale  ::)

Suggestions / Building Defences
« on: 02-04-2009, 19:04:49 »
Hello,

A future game mode could include a defence building feature. I think it would have to be a separate mode so as to retain the carefully balanced FH mod as it is.

Tank defences. Bunkers. Trenches, although those would have to build above the level of the map. I don't think that can be altered. Sandbags. Artillery. Machine guns.  So gameplay would depend a lot on defence building skills. It's tempting to think of the engineers going all out and building bridges and small forts, but I'm not sure how much the BF2 engine can handle, with online as well.

It would be another way of thinking strategically.

Yeah, stay here I say, or this is going to turn into a game of musical chairs with that 40's German beer keller music playing that they always hav echoeing in the background in WW2 FPS's and  in some films critical / tense scenes ... Navarone, Eagels Dare radio operator scene.

We all know WW2 was about fighting for the rights to colour. That's why ITV always show those "WW2 in Colour" documentaries .. to show what we were fighting for.

Not even the economic crisis can stop FH!

Yep, but soon we'll be using rocks for ammunition :P ...

BTW, my glaringly white sig is still under construction ... lol. But, with the new sig restrictions I managed to cunningly sneek in my full size bee bomb gif  with a vanishingly small gif size.
