Russian anti-tank soldiers were taught to shoot the vision slits with anti-tank rifles though. I could imagine that would do the trick, but it's an AT weapon after all.
And even if you don't penetrate it, leaves quite a crack, try driving a car with the glass cracked  :P

No problem, use the commander as your eyes ;)

Why? Silly is what I AM. But seriously, you can surely think of numerous ways of disabling a tank without explosives, or with small explosives.

Make a hole and cover it with a tent or whatever and when it drives over it - BUUM he's trapped.
