Post by: Jürgen on 16-11-2009, 12:11:56

Eeek there's a new strain of flu with a funky name that isn't as deadly as any of the less sexy flu's that circle the globe each year.

Watch me panic.

I see everyone laughing at all the "To stop spreading H1N1 we don't shake hands here"-signs going around in a few years.

I bloody hate it when you hear in the news that yet again someone died to pig flu, then they mention at the end that the patient was suffering from a wide-spread untreatable cancer and patient was very old.  ::)

It's like if I carry H1N1 virus but dont suffer from any of the symptons, but I die in a car crash - when they find out I had H1N1 during the crash, they will say that I died because of the virus, not because I mangled to pieces in the car wreck.  ::)

We, the experienced fh2 community, knows about pandemics. We should all move to madagascar before the next one!

But yeah, here in sweden 5 people have died, all men. I'm not worried at all. They are giving out vaccine for everyone, I think I'll take it thsi week.
However! this may all be a conspiracy! they say "oh the virus is so dangerous, take our vaccine!" but in 10 years, they activate some serum you have got in your blood, making you all mindless drones!
If I don't take the vaccine, then I will be the one laughing when they lose ther will!!

Getting any flu isn't funny. I got one or another flu four times during the first six months in the army, but then nothing after... Anyway, it's even less funny when you're supposed to put up two tents in freezing weather and you have a fever of 38-39 C.

99% of people who get the pork snuffles feel bad for a week or two and get better, which is a much better number than seasonal flu's.

It will even always be like a usual flu, because if you're not healthy you should keep away from the regular flu - a real flu, not a little influenzal infection - anyway.

Yeah, as long as your healthy it isn't that big of a deal. It's victims have mainly been the very young and very old. Of course people in these groups are at a higher risk of dying (their imune systems are generally weak), this is the same group that the regular flu inflicts it's casualties on too. If you ask me, it's made out to be a bigger issure than what I feel it really is. How convinient it happened to be at the same time Obama is pushing his health care plan...we've made it to much into a money game now. I've just got over the H1N1, I was never at any real risk of danger. I never got the swine flu shot either, I don't believe in that shot, they don't even know the side effects yet.

I, and many people I know, have had it. It's no big a' deal. No more than a bad cold. Hell, I walked a mile on it meself, and I ne'er passed out or anything. Granted, I was blithering on about cupcakes by the time I had finished the walk, took some Nyquil, and watched The pick of Destiny, That was pretty much a normal day for me other than the sick part.

That was a popular verse back in the olden days, in my youth... 1918 it was, I think. But you are too young to remember it.

Oh, aye, I remember tha--I was born in 1809, don'cha know? All of these years have addled me brain, and I've no hat in sight.

The thing is, it is passed from animals that have closer biological relationship with us (mammals and so on if you care about the taxonomy). In case of avian/bird flu, it is passed from animals which is quite distant.

I'd like to hear it from Lightning.

Lol, this whole thing is making be bloody tired.  How often do they need to say "There ain't no real risk unless you are of very weak health already (ea an infant, very sick of something else)" and "More people die of the normal flu annually".   Heard a couple of times on the news about the phone off information/health desks being  used a lot by "worried parents" and such and I laughed... bloody idiots..

The media is funny though, one end they are saying "there isn't much to worry about (see above quotes)"  but then o the other end they make almost daily reports of "people being worried about not being able to get a vaccine" and such. If I ran the news I'd make one single report, stating the simple facts followed by a "people in risk groups are getting vaccinated, if aren't in in a potentual risk group do't worry, Now STFU and go worry about the real killers like traffic accidents and accidents around the house and at work!  Thank you for your attention. Well, i am one of those risk groups out there ( i work in healthcare) and i got my shot last thursday. Must say it was the worst vacin ever, i mean seriusly, i had one the week before (a twinrix injection) and i did not feel a thing. that swineflu shot on the other hand, i could not sleep on that arm for 2 days, and when i press it now it still hurts! and not to mention the 2 days of headaches and nausia.

But still, i think its a good thing i had it, i know 3 people now with the swine flu and after seeing how they felt for 3 days i dont want it at all. Its like the worst hangover ever, lasting for like 3 days...

Afaik, the medics here are reluctant to take it...so I will pass, call me crazy
The "vaccine retards" (who claim that polio and smallpox just coincidentally disappeared and not due to vaccinations at all; who claim that all vaccinations are just scams run by the Big Pharma; who claim that the Big Pharma are just a front for the Illuminati to accompllsh NWO; who claim that the true purpose of swine flu vaccine is to decimate global population) have unfortunately gained following then among the less educated.

Up here in Finland (according to the "big media", which is controlled by the Jews and the Freemasons say the "vaccine retards"), among the medical personnel only some nurses have been reluctant but none of the doctors (excepting the one doctor who's more interested selling his own snake oils which he claims to cure cancer and AIDS and whose medical licence should have been revoked ages ago).

I just don't get it. Even though the yearly flu vaccine hurts like hell and my arm is useless for a couple of days, I still prefer the experience over a full-blown flu. So if I feel a little ill from the H1N1 vaccine (if I'll be able to get it before I get infected - I don't belong to a risk group), I would still prefer it over the typical "one week bedridden with muscle aches and 40 degree fever, with the optional pneumonia afterwards".

Haven't had a full blown flu for iirc more than 7 years.
And I never had any shots, so no, I'm in no risk group and I see no reason to get a vaccination.
My dose goes to someone's grandmother/father or a doctor or anyone who needs it more than a healthy lad like me.
Title: Re: H1N1 Flu -Be carefull!-
Post by: Maxa on 18-11-2009, 11:11:21
I'm mostly for vaccination, but I've never taken a flu vaccine. Especially this new vaccine... maybe I'm just shocked by all the propaganda, but I wouldn't take anything that's tested so little for a disease that isn't so dangerous.

Anyway I think it could be a little late for me ;D. This is the 4th day I'm sick, and this ("swine flu" or not) feels more like a mild flu than common cold. Not saying that flu is "nothing", about 10 years ago I had respiratory problems for weeks because of complications.
Title: Re: H1N1 Flu -Be carefull!-
Post by: Steel_Lion_FIN on 18-11-2009, 16:11:08
A story:

My relative got swine flu, so she phoned to the local clinic. They told her to "stay put, we'll come and get you." When shegot to the clinic, they decided to put her in confinement room, but they accidentally were putting her into the cleaning closet. A few hours later she was still in her clinic bed, when the doctor came in wearing a HAZMAT-suit. She asked: "Are you going to check the bee-hives or what?"

I personally think that media telling about the flu is a two-bladed sword. It's good that they tell if someone dies, because people will figure out that this is "serious". On the other hand, it's just making people hysteric.

And no, I am not getting a vaccination even if offered.

I said MEDICS, Kelmola, not tree-hugging hippies-fanboys of Charlie Manson, you know?

Vaccines are not water, they can cause secundary health problems, and the swine flu is a so stupidly "hyped" dissease that perhaps an aggressive vaccine in healthy people is worse than the own disease.
Title: Re: H1N1 Flu -Be carefull!-
Post by: Kelmola on 18-11-2009, 22:11:39
Yes. All vaccines have side effects. Sometimes these are very uncomfortable. But I have yet to read from a trustworthy source that the risk of long-term health problems would be greater than the risk of illness being vaccinated against. Like Hepatitis A/B (Twinrix), that is a really nasty shot and might make you really ill, but not as ill as the real Hep-B (healthcare professionals around here recommend this vaccine to anyone travelling abroad). Of course, sense must be used: taking vaccines against tropical diseases is just pointless unless you plan to go backpacking in a Third World country, for example. All pain and no gain.

But it's a free world. Against a relatively harmless disease (swine flu, even with the additional illnesses it might cause, has actually proven to be less lethal than the yearly flu) you might just as well take the chance that you get sick and get a few extra days off from work/school, since you are likely to get well even if you happen to catch it. However, all infections stress the body and have been proven to be a factor in the forming of cardiovascular diseases, so staying unvaccinated is not totally risk-free either in the long term, even if you made a complete recovery. It's a matter of taste really.

As for me, long as the workplace healthcare offers me the yearly flu vaccine (regular practice in most white-collar jobs here - the employers expect to save the cost of sick leaves due to the flu this way), I'll take it despite being a healthy adult (in Finland, there's usually always enough of the yearly vaccine for all who want it so I'm not leaving any other without). After I retire, I'll still get it from the public healthcare since I'm "elderly" who are all offered the yearly flu vaccine. Just because I prefer having a sore arm instead of a real flu.

I studied medicine and as any medic, nurse or medicine student got my Hepatits B vaccine, I would be stupid otherwise, because it's a very dangerous disease, but this swine flu is a retarded disease (at this moment), if the press had had another interesting subject this summer we never had known about it.

Title: Re: H1N1 Flu -Be carefull!-
Post by: siben on 18-11-2009, 23:11:24
about the twinrix (hep A/B and like 5 other things) its not that bad, lol, not compared to the flu thing. Ive goten 6 twinrix injections now during the past few years and i really hope i finaly have a hep B titer that isnt 0 this time (will let it check in a few weeks) or it will be monthly booster shots for me for the rest of my career. Vacines are verry usefull, definatly against tropical ilnesses, i have a friend that has malaria in her blood and its not a joke to have.

My philosopfie is, if the chances of dieing from it is over 1 in 10 000, or it leaves permanant visual/internal damage it is worth to get the shot.

I quite agree.  atleast they media explained that the hype/concern was all related to the speed of it spreading, not the illness (flu) itself or the rare fatalities. This was some time ago though, near the start of the "OMG flu" thing and "why is the media/world jumping on this?" , a little FAQ so to say wit questions as "How dangerous is the flu?" .

I shook my head when I heard our minister of health orderd 16 million vaccins (one for every citizen), sounded like a big waste of money to me. Ordering some for the high riskgroups, plus a nnch in baclup, sure. But that many? Some companies amde quite some money... bye bye tax euro's. A lot probably is not going to end up being used so might have to be thrown away (don't knkw what the experiation date on this vaccin is though)... just... ugh.

If they want to inject me they'd have to come to my house, tase me and do it my force... or  proof to me thousands are dying or likely to die. Say one in a hundred/thousand dying...  otherwise, screw them.

Ditto with regular flu, never got a vaccin for that either. That's for the eldery, who are a risk group (there health might be fragile so a flu might kill them).

Oh really, if this is so, how did I get swine flu in the first place then?
Oh, no, wait, I didn't get it...
You have boobies?  But you're also male, which can mean only one thing: moobs.

FYI, moobs do not cure disease like boobs do.

Actually, I thought that it was meant that treatment with boobies swineflu and not that they are indicators of genetic factors which prevent it.
But as you are mentioning it...

(yeah, I url-ed instead of img-ed it for a reason!)

Swine flu is just like all other flues every spring and autumn. Actually its not even as dangerous as influenza-A. Of course this is bit more infectious. Though I had it and i had only like 38 degree fewer. Just a normal fall in my opinion.

I never get sick so it wouldn't be a normal fall for me :)
