Title: I am BRAND NEW & I have some questions:
Post by: nickm on 17-02-2011, 01:02:11
I coughed up for BF2 & as a whim downloaded THAT game's version of Forgotten Hope-I think the version is 2.3 which I think is the most recent one; I ONLY play single player off line...I am noticing a few things:

Even if I am SP it appears I have to go on line to play---or is that wrong?
It's not quite the blast the original FH is; I have it on the easiest settings & it seem a bit of pain to play & NOT get killed in the first few seconds-not to mention it takes FOREVER to win---can we do ANYTHING about this?
Then there's the fact that I can't seem to find anyplace to communicate with my AI cohorts;

Also, a REAL annoyance is the 'double count' to respawn; I die & the countdown winds down & then another longer countdown begins

Finally, are there any 'new' battles I can add on to this other than the original North Africa & Normandy (Russia, MarketGarden, Bulge, Italy, the Pacific)? Or are those in the future?

Thx

NM

you don't need to go online to play. At accounts page, you can create an offline account. No internet is needed for that.

Well, it being tough depends on what you set it to. The best level I've found is 80% since bots will be alert, aim sufficiently well without being snipers. Also, try adjusting the number of bots.

You need to DL the bot changer from http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=13624.0 and follow the instructions there. If you change them to anything above 48, switch the ratio slider to the same number i.e 48 bots, toggle slider to 48 etc. and adjuust the total bot count to 48 within the game irrespective of what number you use the app to set your bots too.

The double count can be done away with by reducing your spawn time to 0. Unlike BF42, where you had a minimum of 3 seconds, in BF2, you can have 0 seconds spawn time.

Unfortunately, we are have just 31 maps ...I know, its sad ;-)  and these are from North Africa, Normandy and 3 from the mediterranean i.e Crete, Mount Olympus and Sfakia.

The development team is however working on the bulge and the eastern front, so expect at least one new theater some time this year :-)

Just open the console by pressing the key above the Tab key on your keyboard.
Type: sv.spawntime 1
Press enter
Close the console once again.

Or, rather, sv.mandowntime 0

Better yet add the line:

sv.spawntime 1

...to the end of your gamelogicinit.con file (in ...\mods\fh2), and you only have to do it once... ;)

There's also some files (that mainly fix CTD's) you'll want to download from here: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=6539.0

Not being able to communicate with the bots is something you'll have to get used to I'm afraid, and yes it shits me too... :)

Something in the python was broken/removed when the BF2 commo-rose was changed to FH2's ugly commo-log thing, but to be fair, FH2 had no SP at the time.

And no, it doesn't look like getting fixed anytime soon... :(

Don't forget right clicking on the squad commander map gives a few ways of sending commands to the AI.

This is real helpful, thanks guys. my dad was having problems with sp. this solves them

So I can't call for help or tell my AI Minions NOT to rush headlong to their deaths?

How about this: Is there a 'keycard' that tells me what the commands/actions are? I can't seem to find it anywhere;

As a squadleader you can tell them where they should attack or defend, but not where not to die. ^^
The keycard you are looking for is the controls-setup under the options tab in the game. The key called "coms rose" (standard key is Q), iirc, is the one you want to set for yourself.

So then I have to be the 'squad leader' position to be able to 'command/lead/whatever' my bots or tell them: cover me or hold here or follow me? OK...I shall loiter about here for more info from time to time.

That's only logical.
Why should soldiers listen to anyone else besides their Squad-leader?  ;D
But trust me, play online, it is 10 times as rewarding as playing against bots! :)

Sorry mate I forgot about the squad leader commands, I usually just join a squad (for the extra spawnpoint)... :P

To clarify:
The commands accessed via the 'Q' key have no effect whatsoever on the bots, but as said above, if you are the SL you can order them to attack/defend/move by right-clicking on the squad map screen.  :)

Its WIP. On the to-do list both officially, and by the community. I suggest making do for now.

Playing with bots is a different gameplay from playing online.

You get the cinematic and the large formations with bots, you get the solo sneak gameplay with smarter enemies and squadmates. But both have their pros and cons.

Guys, do you play this game ?  ::)

Just did a test and you can command the bots AND spot through the interface.

Actually that shows the other part of the interface (there are two controls remember) but you can issue tactical orders anyway on the map, as you can see I have done with the repair command ... little spanner.

Spotting ! I spotted INFANTRY ... as you can see by the little red marker on the mini map. That way you can direct the AI to attack ! They spot a lot themselves but not everything.

TALLY HO  ;)

(note, this was with local client connected to local dedicated server, but that should not make any difference)

NOTE TO SP FANS. PLEASE ENTER ISSUES HERE (http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=13971.0) ... OTHERWISE THIS IS THE KIND OF THING THAT HAPPENS. END OF MESSAGE.

Get them to give you a ride, halt or follow you, and i'll be really impressed.  ::)

The commo-rose is as useful as it is in multiplayer. And yes, bots do ID enemy (They don't spot though, not for arty anyway), but that has always been isolated from the fact that the commo-rose has lost all its links to Ai command.

Until that is fixed and links setup for each comm-rose option. Bots are deaf to player commands.

BULL  >:(

Then what are the red markers on the minimap ? Why is it that I can defend a position USING THE FH INTERFACE.

Please speak sense Djinn !  8)

Oh you can. But that uses the commander's function. The normal peer commands dont work - i.e 'bail out', 'go, go, go' etc.

We already had a poorly mapped interface back in 2.0, now that its gone 1942, those direct links are all lost.

The only reason move orders work is because they were fixed in online play and use the commander map interface, and THAT part of ai wasnt tampered with - its basically vanilla.

OK Djinn, yes. But the interface is a long way from "does not work at all" which has been suggested above. Plus spotting does work and I've been led to believe that it did'nt. Don't know. maybe I just got confused messages, or got cconfused myself ? Anyway, was just trying to get to the bottom of this, as it annoyed me that clear help was not being provided to a new player.

So I can't call for help or tell my AI Minions NOT to rush headlong to their deaths?

As DLFReporter said you can use defend/attack/move to hold your squad at any location on the map. But they might still go running off like they've seen some pretty local girl  ;D

Good question. This is missing for new players. I might make one for AI players.

Just following up; Do I write the 'sv.spawntime 1' right at the end of the gamelogicinit.con line with no spaces or punctuations?
thx

Yeah, it should look like this (last 3 lines of the file):

Quote
...
gameLogic.noVehiclesOmit wurfgerat41
gameLogic.noVehiclesOmit wurfgerat41_alt
sv.spawntime 1

It will get rid of the "You have been killed" timer, but not the "...incapacitated" one.

The only thing is if you get instantly killed, there will be no waiting to respawn at all.

Best, I told you, is not to bother with console and just reduce man-down time to 0 at the map selection screen. You get 0 time for man-down and at most 3 secs for death. Mostly, it instantly respawns you....

But whatev

So then at the map: sv.mandowntime 0 & close it and that will reduce my spawn time?

I will try itl

Yep, if you're setting up a Coop game, like djinn said, you can just set the man-down timer to 0.

I usually play SP, and it doesn't give you that option.

Adding the sv.spawntime 1 line to the end of the gamelogicinit.con file should get rid of the timer in SP and Coop.
