Optimal graphic settings
« on: 03-02-2015, 11:02:34 »
Hey! It's me again! :D

So I just wanted to ask if you got any advice regarding visual settings.
In my old days my eyes arent the best anymore.Sometimes its pretty hard for me to spot enemies at great distances etc. while other people appear to see every single inch over 1 mile. (i know there are other things playing a role aswell like experience and map awareness)
Just wanted to know if there are special configurations that help and/or things that maybe are counterproductive which should be turned off.
At the moment im playing at 1600X900 with everything set to high and turned everything on like 8X antialiasing.
I know from other games that most of the times the optimum is something in the middle. many visual features rather hinder you than help you.Whats your experience with FH2?

Thanks in advance for any help !

Well you definitely should improve the resolution for starters. 1366x768 was nearly unplayable for me and 600 sounds like hell.

nope its the native resolution and max resolution of my screen. its a smaller one so its defenitly fine. setting it higher wouldnt make a difference even if i could
edit: nevermind i twisted the numbers....its 1600X900 :D

Well... Nothing beats big screen & big resolution. I can't say if it helps seeing better, but I run FH2 on these settings, just to make things pretty:

Applies to Nvidia only, don't know about AMD cards.

You can tweak alot the settings to make the game fit your likings, especialy with SweetFX. But I think just switching on Super Sampling instead of Multy Sampling gives a massive improvement and sharpens the image noticably. With AMD cards you can use "edge detect" mode and run 24xSS. Downside is that it costs performance. So you should only use it when you have a decent PC. Don't know how this works for Nvidia cards but it should work quite similar.

Interesting, I was trying out some stuff after having read this topic. I never really bothered with settings as things already looked great without tampering with it. I set edge detect to 80 now (was 10, so must be better now I guess), but can't find 24SS. What is it and where can I set it? Is it under Video/quality?

In my driver settings I can select between two different filtering methods: "standard" and "edge detect". When I select "standard" I can only use 2x, 4x and 8x Supersampling. With "edge detect" I can choose between 12x and 24x Supersampling.

Ah, OK. I'm using CCC (Catalyst Control Center) and it has edge improvement as an option under Video/Quality. I wouldn't know where to find that sampling thing, though.

I use the CCC aswell. But ou have to set it up in the game options tab and not in the video options. You need to add the Forgottenhope2.exe and then overide the specific game controlled settings. You can also adjust the Texture filtering to higher levels and better quality.

Mm, OK, I added Forgottenhope2.exe, but what about this vs Launcher settings?

The launcher uses the Battlefield 2 craphic options, whereas the driver options allow more customization and in the end better results, when you know how to tweak it.  The AA in the Battlefield 2 options uses Multysampling where the driver sttings just give you more options and controll. Just make a comparison on your own and you will see the difference. A screenshot at the same spot with different kinds of texture filtering and anti aliasing. SS is pretty demanding but you will notice the difference how cables and stuff like that are displayed. The picture with optimal settings just looks alot sharper.

I have been playing on 1080p 60Hz samsung tv since 2010

To reduce most stutter and tearing ex. when turning around fast in a house

Fps =  (60Hz * 2) +/-1 = 119 or 121

If you have ex. 100Hz try out fps 99/101 or 199 or 201 :-)

Tick "Limit the maximum frame rate to" desired amount in FH launcher.
Best setting for me is fps locked at 119

Not sure if this works for every one. but give it a try :-)

Asus GTX 760 2gb

Nvidia Control Panel 3D settings

Ambient Occlusion -> Quality
Anisotropic filtering -> 16
Antialiasing -FXAA -> off

Antialiasing - Transparency -> 8x (Supersample)
CUDA - GPUs-> All
Extension limit -> Off
Maximum pre-rendered frames -> 4
Multi-display/mixed-Gpu accleration -> Singel display prefermance mode
Texture filtering - Antisotropic sample optimization -> off
Texture filtering -negative LOD bias -> Clamp
Texture filtering - Quality -> High Quality
Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization -> on
Triple buffering -> off
Vertical sync -> off
