CGI on a known story. (http://chopard.fest4.free.fr/emoticons/army/armata/armata_PDT_11.gif)

That wasn't the only fail about that plot... for one thing: why did they make avatars? The natives seemed to know that they were not real smurfs anyway.
-
Yeah, why did he have to screw it all up, we only needed to smurfberries to power our school.
Seriously tough, welcome to hollywood, where almost all of the movies have a plot like that. Isnt there a starwars thing just like that out there as well? and i am sure many other movies too.
-
That's what I said! like 40 minutes into the movie it reminded me of Pocahontas...
-
Too bad they lost in the end.
-
I never finished watching it, I didn't think it was so great.
-
The 3D CGI was amazing, even ground breaking. But besides that the plot was nothing special. Ive seen much better movies but also much worse. I give it a D-.

congrats! you noticed the oh so subtle undertone that EVERYONE WITH A 3RD GRADE EDUCATION WHO SAW THE MOVIE NOTICED.
I, too noticed the OBVIOUS (i.e. dont be so proud of yourself for noticing something) connection between the manifest destiny policy of various "civilized" nations. but that is the point of the movie. do you think james cameron is so arrogant he thinks we wont notice exactly what he is getting at?
instead of making yourself feel superior by going "OMG ROFLCOPTER!! this is just like this one thing!!" you should instead ask "why is he making this point?" perhaps he is saying that we should stay out of other people's business? or mabey he wanted to make a sobby "we shouldnt have done that" movie without making a western film and explore a new genre?
-
This movie sucks, even after they have stolen 1300 million of $$ around the world (Including me), the world should sue the creator and studio of the movie.
-
Guys, really. You fail at films.
( Kading doesn't, tho <3 )
-
Whatevaaah. Still a good movie.
-
Whatevaaah. Still a good movie.
Too much eye candy and a very crap ending.
-
I haven't seen it, and I refuse to see it. Its the same old rehashed plotline that I've seen countless times....Its Dances with Wolves set in space....=/ Sure its probably got the amazing CGI effects that everyone is talking about...but that doesn't make it a good movie, that just makes it pretty. And pretty movies aren't always GOOD movies, its plot and actors that make a movie.

At least it had marines.
GET SOME

For that its better to see Generation Kill HBO mini series.

What to say, it was made by Cameron. Hollywood's biggest thief :)

The Terminator's concept was shameless ripped too ;)
-
You all suck, it was a good film.
-
lol, Typical anything can be resolves through peace, promote scientist, Military is bad and filled with a bunch of trigger happy cold idiots... that's what I got out of it for what I watched... wasn't impressed.
-
You all suck, it was a good film.
But the plot is ripped off Pocahontas!!!!
-
Yeah, well it was still cool. Unlike you wannabe Žižek's, I liked it.
-

Just pure erection effects, but thats it. Plot sucked and makes you feel stupid.
-
Dances with smurf!
Haven't seen it, and can't say I feel any urge at all to see it.
Everyone seems to love it, I probably will to. But I just get a feeling when I saw the trailer for the first time, there is something in this movie that really "puts me off", it just give me the feeling that it sucks. (though I base this on nothing, since I haven't seen it).
I can not say that I won't see it though, I'll just say "I will not go through any trouble to see it" = not trying to watch it myself, but if someone is watching when I'm passing by, I might.
-
I saw it because my kid wanted to see it and it was her birthday. I thought it was ok. I spent $20 to be mildly entertained for a few hours and eat popcorn.
And we all know you only go to the movies for the popcorn and the butter oil shit. Admit it. Inside all of us is a popcorn devouring fatty. I'm the first to admit I totally do.
I also saw princess and the frog that evening. Its a shameless rip of a dozen other disney movies! I WANT MY MONEY BACK, RAAAAAAAAAAAAWR!

It was a good movie, simple story but beautifully made, and you guys who admire work done by other people, like your very own mod team, should admire those graphics as well ...
Imagine the future Forgotten hope 31 with the graphics from Avatar.. ;)
Now dream about that!

I admire FH2, they are honest and fair in their work, Cameron isn't.

But, (and it's a "I like big buttz and I cannot lie") if the notion is that Cameron regurgitated an age old classic tale, then surely FH2 as a mod is equally guilty of the same sentiment against WW2.
(btw it's my birthday everything I say on this day is right and you are not allowed to disagree)
-
Yea, the movie has a message, and getting to connect that with political stance seems to make some of you feel edgy.
I didn't. It was more like Dances With Wolves or Pocahontas with blue-skinned natives, and that's it.
And yes, i watched Chuck Norris B-movie too and never claimed Saving Private Ryan was realistic or Band of Brothers "too awesome" or something like that.
While it is not good to kill, massacre, let alone genocide, you just cannot undo the past. Sure it looks like you got a lot of beef with that kind of themes, giving the impression that you did somehow feeling guilty inside. Well, I hope not. Let's write that in history book like what it is and move on.

Congratulations and true words are spoken. The plot in this movie doesn't matter, it's more about the way it is told.
Which movie has an original plot anyway these days, all stories all already told.

Hooray! Someone with reason in their thinking!
All stories have been told. There are only so many ways you can tell an "Us vs. Them" movie. About all you can hope for these days is interesting dialog between the characters. Chances are pretty high that if you go see a sci-fi movie, you've already seen it dozens of times before with different actors and setting. Just sit back, and enjoy the movie as a slightly enjoyable waste of 2-3 hours and relax.
Dunno, but to me, getting all irate and hate-filled over a sci-fi movie being predictably familiar is like buying a car and then complaining that you have to fill it with gas every so often. It should be expected by now.

One has to say though that the way it is told is not really that good in this movie as well.
Anyways, it's at least o.k., so in combination with the 3D-thing and the really well-crafted animations etc. I don't regret to have watched that movie.

Seriously, it's not this Furrytale, but his other movies that are all stolen works, I simply can't enjoy a movie of such a person.

The Terminator's concept was shameless ripped too ;)
Ripped from where ? Or do you mean Avatar is ripped from Terminator ?
-
I think Cameron is a quite good movie maker. Not the best, not at all the most profound, but hes master in making stories of meaningless action to become epic, with great excitement, aswell as quite realistic for being some very utopic fantasies. All movies are of course inspired by something, but many copy movies alot more directly than Cameron. I do not defend Avatar, but i do defend Terminator and Aliens mostly.

Now, now children. Terminator its very, very nice movie series. Well made, good trama and all of them well done and told. It didnt rip off anyone.
-

Terminators concept was ripped, Cameron himself even admitted it. Harlan Ellison is the man who came up with some genius ideas. Cameron saw them, thought it was great, never even contacted him and said to someone else (after he wrote out the Terminator) that he ripped some of Harlan's work.
Ofcourse it's a great movie, but the story concept is ripped.
-
I see, didnt know that.
-
Awesome effects for sure. The visualisation of the landscape was also awesome. The story is dull and predictable. Aswell as too many stupid details who annoyed me. Like connecting their ponytail-hair to their horse. And an arrow could destroy the window of their gunships, and .... a shitload of other details.
This movie can only offer good effects, nothing else, unless youre 10 years old. But the effects/landscape is so awesome so i still would give the movie : 6/10

I'd rather play Kimble with my ass than watch Avatar! ;D

LoL so true; I really dont care about the effects but the trama. If the trama sucks no matter how good the effects are then the movie sucks. And this movie resembles Pocahontas and smurfs more than anything else.
-
You all suck, that was a good movie, I don't give a fuck if it's original, I didn't want Žižek, I wanted action and explosions. And it had those. And it was good.
-
Good effects is awesome to watch. I could perfectly well just watch effects of explotions for 2 hours with no story at all. It would be awesome.

That doesnt make any sense; its like watching a porn movie without sex in it so to speak.

Well, your statement doesnt make any sense. But i cant see whats hard to understand about the fact that i like to watch explosions on tv.

The mans a genius!

Betray the human race to "save" a handful of primitive alien creatures that you met 3 months ago and you're a big hero???
Does anyone else have a problem with that or am I just looking at it wrong?
(I put "save" in quotes because you know humans just got really pissed off and are coming back better prepared to bomb the crap out of dem smurfs)

Yeah he must likely will be John, and the "princess" would be Pocahontas. Its the same trama...
-
Aha, you like Michael Bay? ;D
Im unfamiliar with him. But i see the films he have made and most of them sucks i must must say. So i guess i dont like him too much. I think the Avatar-explosions is alot better than the few movies ive seen of his list.
My favorite explosion scenes must be episode 7 of BoB, the artillery rain in Bastogne. Aswell as Talvisota (winter war) have an awesome long scene with explosions (though it doesnt look too real, unless they only have some kind of fire bombs) but still awesome.
Thankfully ive never seen Pocahontas. Maybe i would get annoyed by the similarities people talk about aswell.
@Erna: Maybe a futuristic UN will deny further aggressions against the smurfs

I concur, but this was quite obvious from the start: Sucky plot, great CGI.

Love it when directors admit they are over the top and actually like it.
-

Same as dance with wolfs then. Same trama too.
-
I guess i like him , since he makes explosions, though i dont think the explosions on those links were of the best sort. He kinda dont manage to visualize the impact as well as BoB. If i should really like an "explosion-maker" it must be the BoB/SPR- team.
Anyhow, you can be sure i like explosions. Its become quite some mountains ive blown to pieces at work. I strongly enjoy it, at a level far above Michael Bays movies. Ive heard hundreds of explosions, and felt the shockwaves in my body and the ground around me. Thats of course too intense to make in a movie, even with the best sound system possible to get. But usually the effect makers dont even try. I havent seen too many explosions, that means we have screwed up. Once i had to run and throw myself behind cover, while huge rocks were flying over me.
@Yustax: Ive seen Dances with Wolves when it was almost new. Dont remember much, but what i remember was quite similar with Avatar, yes. Didnt think about that at all when i watched Avatar. It sucks that he cant be more original indeed, but its not as bad so i hate the movie.
-
I'd rather play Kimble with my ass (...)
Ok, this seems very awkward, but everytime i see steel lion with his photo of a guy´s head looking above something, and with the "i´d rather play kimble with my ass" signature, i just laugh my ass off! ;D
Can you just tell me what exacly is kimble? and from were did you got this great idea for an signature like that?
