I am pretty sure that the developers have considered this and this is very low priority on the mod.
New menus would be purely cosmetical additions, but in my opinion it would make the mod feel more polished, more like a different game than a mod (even though the mod has already achieved that ingame). So are these worked on, or is anyone in the team capable to do this?
-
There was a push for this a while back iirc, but as you guessed it, other desperately needed things had a higher priority.
-
Do you got an idea what they should look like? Draw a sketch. If it is good, it might be taken or used for further inspiration. ;)
-
FH2 is way too polished in-game to simply have a BF2 menu. I say it's time that FH2 gets a new menu :D It would be cool and refreshing.
-
I don't need to make a sketch to suggest that you remove a link to the BFHQ. ;D
-
I've got no sketches, just wanted to make sure about the devs' opinion.
-
I'd love an interactive menu in which you could browse homepage, wiki, youtube and stats (when and IF they ever arrive) from within the game.
-
Strangly Flippy I Believe It Is Possible :P I Dont Believe It Would Be Too Hard, But Wouldnt You Rather Have More Game Content?
-
Yes Of Course I Would Take More Maps, Armies, Vehicles, Weapons And Actual Gameplay Features Over Such Menu. But I Cannot Deny That I Would Love To Have A Proper Customized Menu With Such Features. There Are Far More Pressing Matters To Deal First And Then Look Back Into Things Like Customized Menus.
-
I'd Rather Have A Customised Spawn Menu With Room For More Than Seven Kits Than A Customised Main Menu.
-
I for one would like to see bacon back on the menu.
I miss the - push button receive bacon.

I Agree With This Menu 100% And Would Love To See It Soon :)

I'm afraid thats hardcoded. Refractor 2 can only dispense Bernard Mathew's Wafer Thin Turkey Ham.

I Think It Should Be A Bigger Priority As It Would Improve The Look Of The Mod. But I'm Not A Dev, and We Are All Retarded Fools With Broken Shift Keys.
-
I'm Feeling Nostalgic, Like The Buttons Looked Like In Battlefield 1942, But Perhaps Placed In A More Aesthetically Pleasing Manner.
-
I Too Must Give My Support For The Eventual Inclusion Of Specially Made Menus For FH2, However The Devs Would Seem To Have More Pressing Duties First. Perhaps, It Would Be More Of A Free Time Project.
-
Honestly The Thing I Want From Battlefield1942 Most Of All Is Its Login System. The Current BF2 Login Server Thing Is Such A Pain In The Ass Compared With The Instant BF1942 System. I Also Kind Of Miss People Switching Names Around In-Game To "Mr. Smith" and "Ms. Smith" and "Smith's Dog" Or Whatever When The Server Was Having A Particularly Lively Night...
-
I'll Never Forget The 30 Or So Guys From The 130th Panzer Lehr Division Going Onto A Server All Named "Teamstacker #Insert Random Number#"
-
Yes, But UNfortunately, I Doubt That Being Able To Change Your Nickname For Individual Servers (As Changing It Like In BF1942 Is Definitely Not Possible) Is Possible.

did i miss the english class where they stated that every first letter of a word was a capital letter? must study language again T_T

Seriously, reading a text where every single word starts with a capital letter is really annoying.
-
everybody stop with the capital letters.
-
why Should I start with a capital letter? nobody Said that it had to be the 1st letter.
But seriously I have an idea. Why not make the menus, at least the buttons, with bullet holes? Metal? Silver or golden?

I Picked Up The Habit From All The Coding I Have Been Doing -.- Words Look To Weird Without Them Beginning With Caps

The mod has gone through so many iterations already, I would think that a new menu would be among the first things that came to mind. I'd rather wait a little Bit longer for a new menu than have more weeks to get bored before the next update. Besides, wouldn't a menu artist barely affect the development of weapons, maps, vehicles, et cetera? ???
-
In my opinion, to be user friendly, the layout gotta be very similar to that of BF2, yet with a bit of FH taste in it.
A cool feature would be a encyclopedia of vehicle/weapons/maps. It'd amaze the newbies for sure.

While the idea is cool, it would take a while. Can BF2 menus link to online material without taking you out of the game? If not, then I don't know what kind of coding would go into the menu to show that kind of stuff.
-
Doesn't the background video increase the size of the mod? Maybe during a redesign it would be a good idea to not have a background video.

I just checked--it's 17.1 megabytes. I wouldn't be too concerned.

hard code it into each release?

We discuissed internally the Menu thing and we voted against. We dont see why we should change it only for the sake of doig it because we could.
-
Small things like these (commonrose change for example) really make the mod stand out from BF2 adn makes it feel unique.
-
yet the time spend in that can be used to make much more needed things

Too bad that commonrose sucks. Only good thing about it, is that it doesnät block view, otherwise it's clumsy and harder to use than old one.

Usually I agree with everything(!), but on this one I gotta vote against. The time 2 make a new texture for buttons and new pictures for background is not that big. 1-2 hours max.

1st of all, it's Commo-rose (communication-rose). and yet we can't name it that because now it's a Commo-line, or Commo-rows. (not being rude, just stating the correct name)
2nd, True it doesn't bock view but 40% of the time I push the wrong button especially for the things on the ends.
But still it stands out and gives that 1945 feel.
EDIT: Corrected spelling.

Grammarnazi strikes.

But implenting these buttons takes a weeee bit longer.

Oh come on. I am not a GrammarNazi. Vielleicht GramarSS :-X Throw him with ze lions or znakes.
Seriously, I was just stating the obvious. It's not a Common thing, but Communication thing. Meant no offense.

Actually, it's a commo-rose to be precise.
I liked the old system better, even though I rarely use anything else except the charge button.

The team has eleven skinners, each one also a modeler. Could one not be spared? Let's not forget that the team has six coders.
I think that a menu would be a fresh coat of paint on the ugly hunk that is the BF2 menu. :-\
-
i would love to design it! ;D

Don't believe everything on the website.

I think new menus need to be designed as well. Setting the mod apart from Battlefield 2 is rather important. The mod is amazing when it comes to polish, everything looks great in game and better than stock BF2 ever was. Yet the menus still look like crap. While we all like new material, with maps and everything, I think most people could stand getting an update to the interface and waiting a bit longer to finish the maps and content.
-
Are there any tutorials on changing/editing the ingame menu? Because I couldn't find any on the editor forums
-
Clearly hasn't been given much thought.
So what I'm thinking of is this:
/Military green or changes from that to desert skin to panzergrau to german camo. If random not permitted, an addition to the toolbox would permit customization. That thing has so much potential still.
/Bullet holes, yes
/New video, or alternate between the one we have, a coloured ww2 one and slideshow of ww2/fh2 concept artwork or gray ingame action. Toolbox is your friend. Changeable theme also.
/Ingame Encyclopedia
/Links
/Splash screen
/Startup video of ingame action
/Developer names for credits
/Not arranged anything like PR; that thing is non-intuitive.
/Changed toggle-able ingame screenshot for gameplay setting
/Background artwork slideshow for account selection screen.
/Fixed gamemode description for each map, esp. Mersa matru.
