M50 Reising SMG
« on: 11-07-2010, 16:07:09 »
Haven't seen any topics on the matter, so..

The Reising was an SMG that was prototyped before the complete implementation of the Tommy and was like a backup-plan if the Tommy failed/fail in supplying constant numbers of them.

Was only used by the USMC in small numbers at the beginning of the war and was then discarded due to crappiness.

Well it's not stated that it perforemd crappy, it was just discarded after time because they were successful in shipping robust numbers of Thoms.

Afaik they were indeed pulled out from service due to soldiers not liking it, because it was shite.

They sucked ass. One unit famously ordered to throw them all into the sea. The M55 paratroop version used by the paramarines was even worse, because the folding stock bend too easily.

Why...?

Its historically accurate to have the said gun in say Guadalcanal if we ever get there. But dont expect it to appear in european fronts.

Since most of my posts get discarded. But then again I mostly post about stuff that is unlikely 2 be introduced because of limited space. We can't have a mod that has 5GB of files. If we intend 2 put more factions/nations we have 2 prioritize.

I would put it into the early USMC NCO kit as a self defense weapon.

Well maybe you shouldnt post stuff that you already know that will be discarded? ;)

Seriously, this is an alright suggestion in my eyes since Reisin WAS used. It wasnt a secret super weapon designed by nazis or some prototype of a prototype. It was a fully produced SMG that was used by the USMC and it has even battle records in the Pacific. So stop acting like PanzerGeneral and pull your act together! Nothing wrong in this suggestion, IMHO.

Dude, did you even read the Wikipedia link you posted? It explicitly reads that it did performed crappy.

Sure it was accurate, light, and cheap, but parts were not interchangeable, you couldn't (dis)assemble it blindfolded (in the dark), it was difficult to maintain, 20-round magazine was the biggest available (and even that was unreliable), recoil was enough to fold the folding stock, it jammed frequently because of its design, it couldn't handle field conditions etc. which is why frontline units flat-out refused to receive it and if they had been burdened with it, "lost" it at the first chance.

For a soldier, Reliability, ease of maintance and trust in the weapon are primary goals.

Actuall combat performance comes secondary. Still important for them though
