Well, first of all, joining a squad is an must. One good squad of 6 men can take down 15 men.

Second, sometimes, it is better to first take cover then fire.

Do you see someone in the distance? it is better sometimes to go prone and fire from range
Sprint and take cover, it really helps.
Use rifle grenades ALOT. They can be so helpfull in an assault. Practise the bullet drop of it, and you can land Headshots after a while with it! (wich is not required, explosions ftw)
Got an smg? Aim for the legs=fire full auto=profit
This is mostly with the thompson and (overrecoilled) M3 grease gun.
Got an LMG? Dont Prone and fire right away, with the latest patch, your bullets will fly around
Got a Bren?Use it as an assault rifle!

Got a piat?    THIS     IS        SPARTA! Use the PIAT against infantery! It is goddam deadly! you can even use the thing like a mini-mortar
And for pity sake stop whining you german biased infidels! The PIAT behave's ingame like IRL. The worst of all 3 AT weapons, but the best one against infantery/soft targets
euhm

someone add some more, i'm a tanker.

Before I turned into a tanker (Damn you sexy marders!) I often used bushes alot, its great for cover and you can launch tons of sneak/allah hu akbar attacks from bushes

Yeah I can only agree to all other posters:
Teamwork is most important in multiplayer. A squadleader who knows what he is doing can make the difference between win or loss... staying together with different player kits greatly increases the strike power as well as skilled use and support of artillery and planes.

The first thing I can recommend is patience. Decide for yourself wether you want to really like this game and then if you do, you will get eventually better at it (but accept a certain level of frustration at first).

My stay-alive-tips:
- squad up indeed. This way you can cover eachother and you won't be the only target so you'll live longer, which is good against frustration in the beginning and gives you more time to actually try and shoot somebody.

- Check the map often to see where your teammates are (not specifically your squadmates) and what flags are yours. That way you're more aware of the whole battle and you can better gauge where the enemy might be coming from, where to take cover. Even if your squadleader orders you to another spot you might suddenly find yourself alone at a flag that's under attack and you can call out for backup (or just let your team know they're needed)

- Find out how you die everytime, and respawn accordingly. If you for instance are defending a flag as a AT guy and your killmessage says "MP40", don't respawn with the bazooka again but with your own SMG. You can also alert your squad mates (you can still type after you die) about the enemy and maybe they can get him so he won't be there to shoot you again.

- If you find yourself facing somebody in close quarters, don't forget your bajonet/knife/shovel is more usefull than your rifle (or sometimes even your SMG), but it takes a little while to get the hang of stabbing people.

- If you see an enemy try to confirm what kind, before you start shooting. For instance if you see an enemy soldier running towards you in the distance and he has a rifle and you a SMG, don't go head to head with him because you'll miss and he won't.
The same goes for tanks. You'll only piss off a Tiger when you try to shoot it across half the map with a Sherman just because you have to try it. And this way you'll have the initiative and can at least decide to try and flank him.

- Choose your class wisely, and also notice the difference in open maps (like the desert maps) and more dense/crowded maps like Sfakia or Lüttich (I guess; the one with all the trees and the fancy HQ villa) when you choose a class. It's no use assaulting a flag across open desert with an MP40, but if you spawn in a rolling halftrack getting ready to unload inside the cap-zone, do bring it.

- Know the map itself. Don't worry, you don't have to know every little nook and cranny to enjoy a round, as long as you notice the "flow" of the battle. This way you can check where you have to be. On Totalize as a german you can for instance focus on the natural chokepoints this map has (ie. the trainbridge) and man a PAK or somehting. There are some really detailed strategy-per-map threads on these board which helped me a lot to understand how maps work.

These are basically things that popped up when thinking back to when FH2 came out and how at first I just wanted to stay alive a little longer, let alone kill anybody. :)
So stick with and it will only get more rewarding once you get the hang of it a little.
FH2 is the game, DarklyDreamingDexter is the name.

Hi flying fool,

Like others before me, I suggest you join a squad. If you ever see a squad with members of this forum in it, feel free to join and ask them stuff. Most people here are polite enough to guide you through phase 1.

Another question is: what kind of fail? Do you miss a lot of shots or are you dying a lot? I presume the last, because you can practise the first easily in SP, and you did so already. When you die a lot, try the following:

- Be patient. Don't move for a while, just look at what's happening around you (esp on Africa maps this is useful).
- Don't walk in open spaces, but sprint/run. Use walk for areas which have enough cover, like the inside of a building.
- Never walk/run/sprint in straight lines, because then the enemy can predict your position and shoot you from miles away.
- Use cover! Crouch behind crates, static wrecks (learn which ones are static, the non-statics blow up after a while and it hurts), barrels, hedgerows, etc.
- Go prone A LOT. In this position it is the hardest for the enemy to hit you. Plus, it makes your aim a lot better.
- Learn the hot spots. All maps have spots or routes which attract a lot of enemies. You can now choose: either you avoid them (less chance of being killed) or you hide near them (more chance of killing).

There's more, I'm sure, but this is from the top of my head now.

Good luck!

Please tell us in more detail, how you fail? If it's simply about reflexes, we can't help you.

I am in the same position more or less.
I only began playing multiplayer about a month ago.

And so far, i have decent kills here and there, but also some TKs only because I either react too quickly and shoot, or just plainly suck at seeing the difference between foes or friend.

What I found to work is this:
-Play on maps that aren't very populated; that way, you have less enemies to face, and more chances to get used to playing without dying every minute or so{still happens to me lol}
Preferably, maps that have 10 people or so.

-Also, Play on Coop multiplayer maps. Those are great for practicing teamwork, since the enemy team is only made of bots.

And good luck :)

A lot of being good in FH2 is perspective. It's not a game solely about getting kills, so if your K/D ratio is much worse than it would be in another game don't sweat it. If you're playing infantry aggressively or on a map with a lot of tanks that is just how it is going to be  a lot of the time.

However, as people have said it helps a lot to join a good squad. The community isn't very big so it won't take long before you start to recognize good SL's, and being in a good squad makes the game much more fun.

Its difficult to indeed define good

I know people with shitty KD's, but i consider them the best of the game simply because they do what it is about=Opening a Squad, being a SL, being a member of one, Assaulting flags, exploiting the enemy flag defenses

Even if they get killed 20 times in the process, they still are the best players in the end

Hello :)

Don't be furious, don't charge away in front of a MG42 or any MG! Never charge at a group of 5-6 enemies(probable a squad, but throw 'nades if you have)! If you see armor, call reinforcements and hide fast(if you are AT kit or Engineer with Demo-Charges, wait it to go away the building and shoot it's back)! Before getting in a plane, take the pilot kit! If you are shooted down(in a plane), parachute, kill a enemy on the ground with your trusty pistol, take his kit, get a transport and capture the enemy flags! If someone sees you, be careful at  things!

1)Get in a building. If you are a scout, get to 2nd floor, put a mine on the stairs and he is done. If not, look at point 2)!
2)He will throw 'nades, so take cover behind EVERYTHING who can save you! If you don't have cover, jump over the wall and shoot him!(Look at point 3)
3)Be sure that he will call reinforcements, so call you too!
4)If you don't have a building close, take cover behind a wall and look at point 2) to avoid the grenade.
5)If there is ABSOLUTELY no cover, be sure that you must fight with him!

Hope this guide will help you! ;)
