So, the elections are over now. Iso jytky (eng. big bang) happened, small party True Finns became the 3rd biggest party in Finland.
So: here is the new parliament:
200 seats total
Party - Seats (lost)
National Coalition Party - 44 (-6)
Social Democratic Party - 42 (-3)
True Finns - 39 (+34)
Centre Party - 35 (-16) (former prime minister party)
Left Alliance - 14 (-3)
Green League - 10 (-5)
Swedish People's Party - 9 (+-0)
Christian Democrats - 6 (-1)
Others - 1* (+-0)
*Åland
Party ideologies:
National Coalition Party: Liberal conservatism, Pro-Europeanism
Social Democrat Party: Social Democracy
True Finns: Finnish nationalism, National conservatism, Social conservatism, Euroscepticism, Populism
Centre Party: Centrism, Agrarianism, Liberalism
Left Alliance: Eco-socialism
Green League: Green politics, Green liberalism
Swedish People's Party: Liberalism, Swedish speaking minority interests
Christian Democrats: Christian democracy
Now, I myself must say that I'm horrified. These elections were catastrophe. How can a party like True Finns get so many votes? Only thing I'm happy about that Centre Party lost so many seats, but that's about it.
"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."
- Sir Winston Churchill
