FH2 Help / Support / Tips for optimizing settings?
« on: 27-08-2013, 17:08:41 »
I did a Win7 re-install this weekend and have just now re-installed FH2. I'm looking for some pointers, video-settings-wise.

Somehow I can never get FH to run smoothly and make it look pretty at the same time. Tinkering with the video settings is hella tedious, since you can only do that when you're not playing and can only see the result when you are. So maybe someone knows a good setting for a PC like mine, or knows about ways to improve performance.

My specs:
Win7 Premium 64bit
Intel Core2 Duo E7400 2,8Ghz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD5670
Avid Mbox Mini soundcard (or 'audio interface' apparently)

Thanks a bunch!

Here a link to footage of Allied food droppings in Holland, after the Hunger Winter of '44/'45. The droppings were part of Operation Manna (April 29-May 8).

According to nu.nl, the film was recently donated to the Wartime Resistance Museum and restored by Gemeente Archief Rotterdam ("district" Rotterdam archive). The images were shot by one Carel van der Zwam near Rotterdam.

Pretty interesting stuff. I knew the planes (Lancasters in this case) had to fly low to drop their load, but never realized it was that low.  :)

May 2nd the NCRV will broadcast the documentary "Zwarte Soldaten" (Black Soldiers) about dutch men who served in the SS. Eight survivors/veterans will for the first time in their lives speak freely about their motivations and experiences. The interviews were conducted around 2009, two of the men have died in the meanwhile. One was only willing to have his story made public after he had died.

Sorry, could only find dutch links, but apparently they identified the last remaining unknown soldier here in Holland. He was buried at Grebbeberg, near Rhenen, and will receive a re-burial with full military honors at the Grebbeberg Memorial site.

He was 21 year old private/conscript Brummelhuis and served in the 16th MG company, 4th division.

Came across this:

Pretty interesting stuff. Sorry if this belongs in a pic-of-the-day thread, but felt it was interesting enough to warrant its own thread.

For the dutchies, or the avid google-translate users:

Today the site www.tweedewereldoorlog.nl came online. It's a site launched by various organizations like Anne Frank Foundation, Dutch Institute for Visuals & Sound, a bunch of resistance-museums and other WWII related organizations. The site will be a showcase/database for various WWII related (and government funded) research projects and is meant to be the definitive archive for dutch WWII history.

Oh, the horror!

A DC3 Dakota that was supposed to be used on stage in a musical about "The Soldier Of Orange" Erik Hazelhoff got stuck underneath a fly-over while being transported from a museum in Best. Apparently it was too wide and the engines came off and the hull tore open.
Here the dutch article for the pictures. Sorry, haven't found an english language one yet - maybe googletranslate will do the trick.

Man, I already hated musicals and now even more. Why not just build a stage prop? No, these pretentious f***s want a real one.

Suggestions / FH on wikipedia
« on: 01-06-2010, 12:06:00 »
When replying to a thread just now I was curious about when FH first came into existence exactly. I went to wikipedia (sorry, probably would've found it on the FH homepage, but I'm a creature of habit) and I was surprised to see FH doesn't have it's own article. Is that some legal issue, or is it just a matter of "no one got around to it"?

Apologies if this topic is in the wrong category, but I thought "suggestions" would cover it. ;)

Off-Topic / Holiday in Japan, any tips?
« on: 27-04-2010, 13:04:25 »
Next week I'm off to Japan for a two week holiday. I will stay in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima, but will be able to make city-/daytrips to other locations as well.
I have what resembles a plan, but since it's my first time there I'm open for tips and suggestions. I'm kind of a WWII nerd so museum/memorial tips would be welcome but feel free to post any fun or impressive thing to do over there.

Thanks!
