WW2 nurse in iconic kissing photo dies
« on: 24-06-2010, 12:06:49 »
Okay this is just getting weird. Another iconic figure of WW2 has died. That's three now, lets recap:

1.) June 8th 2010: Jack Harrison, the last survivor of the 'The Great Escape'
2.) June 22nd 2010: Clarence Wolf Guts, the last living Lakota Code Talker

And now:

3.) June 24th 2010: Edith Shain, A nurse famously photographed being kissed by an American sailor in New York's Times Square in 1945 to celebrate the end of World War 2 has died at the age of 91, her family said on Tuesday.

Okay this is just getting weird.
People die when they get old. It's not weird.

Everyone must die sooner or later. So nothing weird about that.
That many 'young icons' of world war 2 have been dying these past years is only natural since it's been almost more than 65 years and 75 is the average life expectancy in most places.

The other thread about that Wolf guy.

Clearly you both have missed the point of what I was saying. I find it sad/weird that three iconic people of the second world war all died within days of each other, not a month or two, not a year, but days. Completely unconnected deaths but within days of each other, which is for want of a better description: just plain 'ol weird.

Completely unrelated deaths of old people? Amazing! We need to begin a study of how this is happening, READY THE TAX DOLLARS!

My grandfather was in the Navy during the Second World War. He died in October of 2007, where's HIS fucking thread?

Let's face it, nobody knew this woman was even still alive until they read this thread and found out she has passed on.

I never even saw this picture before.

But then again, I never participate in the RIP threads either. Never knew 'em, never mourn about 'em.
