In the beginning phase we tried getting the Germans out by shipping them by train or by sea to Norway or elsewhere, but eventually the Soviets demanded that we take up arms and force them out. This resulted in what is known to the Finns as "The Lapland War", as most of the fighting took place while the Germans were retreating through Lapland towards Norway, utilizing the Scorched Earth tactic throughout. The entire city of Rovaniemi was burned to the ground, for example.
This was tough on both parties as we had been brothers in arms for years, and the Germans (not the Nazis) were liked by the Finns.
