Man's got a point. The only WWII game I know of that includes battles in the invasion of Poland is... good old FH1.

German colonies in South Africa in WW2? What?  ???

Though I agree with his points, I can't imagine big publishers would like to fund any game that doesn't have the "right" nation in it (i.e. it's gotta be good vs bad - American/Allied/Soviet campaign vs baddies).
It could work for an indie game, but still the playerbase could end up being a small niche, since you'd really need a lot of advertising to draw in a larger crowd. Escpecially if we're talking about Manchuria or Burma campaign.

I, for one, would love an Axis POV game, either from an enlisted or an officer's perspective. Both can include moral dilemmas and experience the gruesomeness of the war.

Oh, and this: As he said, the European theatre is overexposed, but only the 20% of it has been represented in games. We still haven't seen the siege of Leningrad, the Demyansk pocket, the battle of Smolensk, Dunkirk, anything from Operation Zitadel (AFAIK), invasion of Poland, Norway, and if the author is into the whole guerrila warfare, there's no better place for a campaign like that than Poland or Yugoslavia. The only problem there lies with the choice of perspective, since many resistance (and collaborator) groups fought each other as well as the Germans/Italians.
He was not wrong. Amateurs talk tactics, pros talk logistics.

Im not tired of anything. The future will just add more details
Some maps/scenario you never get tired of playing.
Bad map design or game play design is the only enemy
Ex. some of the early cs maps is still being played, because of the great design

Remember playing the first Hidden & Dangerous game. 4 player coop mode in a net cafe late 90´es. what an awesome game
Still stands the test of time in my ww2 gaming memory

he's just kicking in an open door imo.
Commercial games need to sell. WW2 community is a small community compared to the rest of player who will buy the ww2 game.
Would they do a game with a german single player perspective ? Of course not.

It's like The vietnam war and the french indochina war. afaik only 7554 portrays it (the game is buggy but it is interresting that they succeed to have correct weapons, battle etc ...)

At the end that prove that FH2 is certainly more valuable than the commercial games because we do what we want to do

Well, the fact that both Inglorious Basterds and Fury is hot at the time of their release, shows people are willing to explore more about World War 2.

So far, I haven't seen eastern front being portrayed correctly in games. Operation Bagration? Zitadelle? Siege of Sevastopol? Come on... it involves the largest gun ever fired, and also the site of recent Ukraine conflict... it would sell.

All other battlesites are still too exotic. Yeah, you can play Australians landing in Papua New Guinea and walked through the Kokoda Trail. Playing Indonesian resistance, conduct arms smuggling, guerrilla warfare, working with propaganda, etc. But like others have said... the European theatres itself is still less than half of the story.

Agreed, although I think it will be a dream to have WWII games about the theatres he was talking about. The entire Pacific campaign already has some games, so that ight get a new game going one day. But the other (for the big public) really obscure battles will only get made by small indies, I guess.

I wish that guy wouldn't use the weird pitch/tuner on his voice.

EDIT: Why is he talking about German South-West Africa? I swear that was World War I?

I wish that guy wouldn't use the weird pitch/tuner on his voice.

I think it's his 'thing,' all his videos are like that.

Good video tho. I didn't actually think there were people outside of this forum that wanted to see games about the 'Forgotten' parts of WW2. :)

He brings up some good points about game design but in the end I think it's still a pipe dream to see any major game deal with those parts of the war.

I like dreaming that one day a full- standalone game will cover as much of WW2 in as much detail as FH2. But it's still a dream :P
