Need popular WW1/WW2 songs
« on: 11-11-2014, 21:11:02 »
I am helping a budday out who studies music. His task is to get a list of popular WW1 & WW2 songs, and preferably from many nations, not just america and germany. Luckily his teacher is an open minded fellow, so WW2 german songs are allowed as long as they do not have any reference to the holocaust.
As a bonus he may also add songs from before WW1 & even some important movies

here is what i have compiled for him so far:

-Erika
-Grenadier lied
-Westerwald marsch
-Fridericus Rex
-Red army choir - When the soldiers are singing
-Red army choir -The Sacred War
-On ne passe pas
-Kay kyser-praise the lord and pass the ammunition
-Blood on the risers
-It's A Long Way To Tipperary
-Vera lynn- We'll meet again (YES fh2 one :D)
-La sagra di giarabub

So pass on some more please!
-i am fairly sure that if they took porn off the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called bring back the porn "Perry cox, Scrubs.

Sofia Vembo was called the voice of Greece at the time. So here are some of her most popular songs that were at the time.

http://youtu.be/upwIgVjHPIo
Sofia Vembo - Duce puts on his uniform (talks about the attack and defeats of the Italians from the Greek Tsoliades)

http://youtu.be/l8JzuSXs0GU
Sofia Vembo - Children of Greece (Talks about the pain and suffering of the warriors up in the mountains as well as the people they leave behind)

Could go into more detail if you want and find you some more Greek songs.

Cant believe Katyusha hasn't been mentioned here yet

It's from the end of the thirties, so not made for or during WWII, but it got most of its popularity during WWII if i remember everything correctly

The Panzerlied also jumps to my head, but I have no clue about how popular it actually was during the war. It's also pre-WWII originally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPzTGx96P6U

Something wrong with Lili Marleen?

(Friendly reminder that using the English version recorded in 1944 is anachronistic in North African maps, and that Zorba the Greek would be no more anachronistic than that, or any of the post-war movie soundtracks, many of which have nothing to do with WW2.)

Panzerlied
Horst Wessel Lied
SS marchiert in Feindesland (alot of versions, Norwegian "På vikingtog". Finnish, Danish and Italian version as well. Don't remember the names of those. A fallschirmjäger version of this is used today by the German paratroopers.)
Unser Rommel
Heia Safari
Englandlied
Alte Kameraden
Ich hatt ein Kameraden
Suomi Marssi

There are a lot of german and italian songs to be found on http://ingeb.org/WWII.html
Sadly, only some have an actual mp3 file to download, while many just have the text.

Anyone know of any good ones that are unique to ANZACs? Marching songs or the like?

It's half naked people on boats. That's all.
Here in Finland we call that "summer".
