Hi,
Here is the start of a new project: Longues Sur Mer, status WIP
"Situated west of Arromanches-les-Bains in Normandy, Longues-sur-Mer overlooked the ocean from the top of a 65 meters height cliff, a perfect position where the Germans had installed a four 150 mm guns battery. On 6 June 1944, at 5:30 am several allied battle ships opened fire on the battery. When the Allied Armada was on sight, the German heavy guns striked back. The HMS Ajax concentrated his fire on the German battery at one kilometre range. The battery stopped bombing a short time, but fire started again and the position shelled the Landing ships until 5 pm.The battery surrendered to the British troops the next day with the 184 men garrison."

If you are willing to receive some constructive criticism, your log ramps are facing the wrong direction. Their purpose was to tip over the landing crafts, not to poke holes into them. ;)
-
SPR strikes again.
-
Woh this map is an assault nightmare. Hope there won't be MG mounts on the bunker windows. PwnzrRape
But I like maps like that cause only teamwork can get you through such demanding terrain. Smoke + flanking and fire support = Win (dows 7)

Well yes and no, iirc, they also had ones with mines on them that stood as they do in that first picture.
-
I have heard about mines being placed on the ramp but the log would still stand the tall end towards shore. There were also mines placed on a single log facing the sea.
Like this:
-
My book WN62 from Hein Severloh says the same.
Those wooden ramps were always built to serve as ramps and were fitted with crude saws or mines.
Only the simple logs with mines on top were faced outwards.
Otherwise a nice map idea. I enjoyed the FH1 beach rushing a lot :)
But judging from the (bad quality) screenshots, there needs to be more rubble next to the destroyed buildings. Most likely most of the bombing damage happend just one day before.
Well I just checked the area in Google Earth and i´m amazed by the details. They even have the bunkers and guns as 3D Buildings. Together with the Pics from Panoramio you can check the smallest Details and the big picture for correct scales.
Speaking of this, I think your beach is too wide compared to the real thing as its a small flat beach and a long slope in google earth. Also the second bunker row is 300 meters behind the bunker at the beach ridge. In your screens they seem to be much closer together.
How about the naval shelling, do you have plans for this? Would be nice to see a ship out there if the HMS Ajax was only 1 km away.
-
the beach might have gotten smaller over 70 years? ;D
-
Both google earth and this map portray the beach-width 100% right.
There is a certain stone ball orbiting us, called the moon. This object causes some gravitational pull that oddly has the effect of making a slight egg-shape of stuff on earth, especially liquids such as the sea.
This phenomenon popularly is called 'tide'. Hence the beaches can be either small (high tide) or very broad (low tide).
I was at Omaha beach & surroundings for a few days and saw the beach shrink and grow from 15 meters to 100 meters sometimes.

blabla
Why do you have green color on the cobble stone?
Nice to see a BGF mapper :)!
-
Concerning the beach on Omaha. Some parts where, even with low tides, no more then 50 meters wide. But others are, with low tide, over 3km wide. Yes, the speed the water comes in there is faster then you can run since the beaches are almost completely flat. Get a proper map and it shows the difference between high and low tides.
-
Don't have too many open houses, just makes the map maze like and diminishes action
-
can you post a minimap?
btw, make some cables destroyed

the longues battery and its defence line, wip..

The map looks interesting. However, may I suggest some more bomb craters/rubble from the bombardment (esp. on the beaches) because otherwise the allies will be mowed down!

the map looks awesome

good stuff! dont you think 4 shermans are too much? and I want a flag at the cool trenches infront of the city with an additional pak 40 instead of the mortar

Does this have an updated lightmap?

yes..

sw-eeeet! Downloading now :-)

I have to admit that i am truly impressed with the graphic quality of your map. But i also think, like Irish, that fewer tanks would improve the gameplay. Like one stug for germans and two or three shermans, some of these with type variation maybe? Otherwise i would love to try your map in online play, maybe you can talk to some server admins to host your map for one night or something ;)
-
maybe 2 additinal flags. one at the top of the bunker at east (not inside to prevent partybunker :D) and one at the trench system infront of the flag. The first flag is much too easy to cap, even for bots ^^
Ps: i have heavy fps drobs from german mainbase to the city when i pass the destroyed pz IV, it goes dotn to 9fps. something is not good there, the rest of the city is 25 or higher for me
-
@eXavs IrishReloaded and mopskind
you should take a look over german HQ, there are available: sdkf 251; stug 40 and marder which I think are enough to support defending germans. there is one pak40 in front of the city, which can take care over coming US tanks from the beach (I saw that this gun can knock out US tanks around Longues battery)
if I replace trench mortar with pak40...I think that US forces never will reach the city....
-
i think that the armor vs armor or armor vs anti- armor relation is right, but the whole mass of tanks kinda makes the game very hard for infantry- i am talkin in MP terms, i think it will work just fine in SP. But real people tend to memorize pak positions and armor driveways which can quickly turn the whole map into a massive spamfest with so many vehicles- get my point? i'm not a mapper or leveldesign specialist, but this struck me right after loading your map. Otherwise, as i said before, i love it. Mowing down infantry on beaches gives me this evil troll grine on my face
-
nice map. for mp with 64 player i think its a bit too small. but for 20-30 player a nice battlefield. i dont like the first two falgs, when u play in mp. the are a bit out of place and the oob do the rest. the village is good designed, its fun to play there. but i also notice a fps drop to 30 when i look in this direction. maybe you can reduce the viewdistance, its not so importand on this map. i also like your detail work. ;)

Hi to everyone,
here you could find the latest version of Longues sur Mer.
Download links:
http://www.4shared.com/file/krSaNZzY/Longues_sur_Mer_final_version.html
http://www.gamefront.com/files/20006323/Longues_sur_Mer_final_version.rar
change log:
trench flag and gun battery flag are combined into one flag placed around gun battery.
now US troops have three sherman tanks, the first is assigned to the first US flag,
other two tanks will spawn on the beach when us troops captured gun battery.
For the german troops have available one stug 40.
I adjusted the infantry spawn points, now US bots can attack gun battery from two directions.
AIPathFinding problem is fixed, now you should play without crash.
probably fps is improved also, adjusted view distance...
I hope you will enjoy:)

sounds great, if this is a version i dont have played yet, ill will start a game this week. i dont see you online aerafimov, the last days. ;)

I am busy with Brecourt..... :P

great map to play man. This will work very well with 64 players. A suggestion: a churchill would be nice to spawn on the beach it will help with the advance. the flag by the bunkers could be a hanging flag on the bunker it self. thats all.
