The Invention of Lying

Movie directed by (the genious) Ricky Gervais. Released in 2009.

Gervais plays basically the same character he always does. The small, fat, snout-nosed loser.
The movie is about a world where lying never was invented. People always tell the truth.

Pepsi got the motto "for when they don't have coke" for example.

Gervais is a manuscrip writer for movies. All movies are just a man reading history, as that is the truth. Actors would be "lying".
Gervais gets fired and evicted. When going to the bank to withdraw his last 300 dollars, he for some reason lies and says he's got 800 dollars in his account. The cashier thinks there has been an error in their system.

Ricky Gervais has told the worlds first lie, and now his life is turning completely around.

In general, not that good a film, but it was actually very enjoyable. Much 'cause I love Ricky Gervais.

7/10
I see were you are trying to reach: "how can a 17 year old kid have such a thinking like this? why doesnt he wants to be like normal teens who whana get rich? and his plan actually makes sense, but is too damn revolutionary and good at the same time than is still doubthfull if it works..." - Damaso

It had some really good moments, especially when he explains the concept of a god, but otherwise not worth watching twice.

Edit:  Just saw Inception... so good...  a real mind fuck.  like the Matrix on crack but a hundred times better, an 8.5/10.

I'm so gonna see Inception today!

But last night I came home a bit tipsy and decided to finally put Three Amigos on, which I had recorded months ago. I have seen this movie dozens of times when I was a kid so I was really curious if I would still like it.

Of all the Saturday Night Life vehicles of the 80s this one hasn't really aged that well and it sure is no Ghostbusters, Fletch or Trading Places. It's all rather siilly but with Steve Martin and Chevy Chase together in one movie that of course was probably the point. So yeah, still funny and still recommendable :)

And all hail Chevy Chase for puling off that dismounting scene. It's a bit brilliant actually:

Inception 9/10

First movie since A Scanner Darkly that made me actually think instead of just sitting there watching explosions for an hour. Several people complained afterward that 'their heads hurt,' and I found that funny.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Though I could see the twist ending from the scene where they were on the window-ledge. (you know, where what he thought was reality was actually also a dream.)  That, to me, was just a bit too obvious.

Sorry, what twist ending? It was an open ending.

But the movie itself: WOW! Christopher Nolan truly is Hollywood's saviour. So much so that a perfectly decent film like Insomnia almost feels unispired and lazy, compared to the rest of his movies. What an impeccable resumé is this guy building up. :)

********INCEPTION SPOILER ALERT************

Seriously, spoiler.

Yeah I agree it was definitely and open ending. The totem wobbles just enough that it might fall down or stay up. They must have shot that scene a few times to get a shot that was that open.

Personally I thought there would be a twist where his wife was actually right, and that the totem was just a part of his dream within a dream that reacted how he wanted it to. But the open ending gives a nice extra "mindfuck for the road" as you leave the theatre questioning reality like a new-age hippy or a first year philosophy major...

I'm going to tell myself that it fell.  It looked like that was what was happening anyway.

And good lord I hated the wife, "Mal" or whatever.  She had a weird wart on her forehead, it kept bugging me.

My favourite character was definitely Mr. Saito.

The Damned United.

4/5

This movie is prolly the best movie i've seen in this decade. And as a Derby County fan i loved it even more. Sad that Mr. Clough and Rams parted company and he joined the bloody leeds :(
Michael Sheen does brilliant job as Mr. Clough and Colm Meaney did fantastic as Revie. I haven't had pleasure to read the book, but some day i will.

We need more personalities in modern football!

2012 - prolly the worst movie I've seen since alexander.  a flacid 1/5 and it only gets 1 because I thought how awesome would it be to try and fly a light aircraft through a collapsing world, after that my mind switched off and I wondered if it was raining outside.

Dude. If a Cessna can fly though a thick cloud of Volcanic ash, why dont we strap rockets onto those and use them as ground attack aircraft in Iraq. Theyre obviously more robust than anything even the military is using now... XD

But it was spinning longer than it usually does, and was originally his wifes in the first place... *mischievous grin*

lol, I know man - I was thinking the controls would have broken his arms by now and the whole plane would have caught fire in about 10 different sequences.. still worth a go - big cigar, end of the world scenario, beer in your hand

The Ghost Writer - 2010 - 9/10

It's by Polanski, and its extremely good. Good acting and intrigue, it feels and plays out like an Hitchcock movie.

you all do that, you just don't admit. so shut up :)

That's why humans evolved with hands AND fingers. *chuckles*

....okok lets get out of this mess...

I watched the Sorcerer's Apprentice yesterday.
Should have known that a great story line could be f-ed over by Disney.
What sounded like a promising movie turned into a shallow teen flick with no real character or plot development. Call it a movie for all those college, no friends and a bit nerdy guys out there, who want to get the girl after all. Nicolas Cage as a Sorcerer was great, as was Alfred Molina as the villain, but the script didn't really allow them to show their works.

I'd give it a 5/10 and that is mainly because it had my favourite poem's scene (as used in Fantasia) from Goethe's "Der Zauberlehrling"

Quote
Der Zauberlehrling             The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe             Translation by Brigitte Dubiel
Hat der alte Hexenmeister             Good! The sorcerer, my old master
sich doch einmal wegbegeben!     left me here alone today!
Und nun sollen seine Geister             Now his spirits, for a change,
auch nach meinem Willen leben!     my own wishes shall obey!
Seine Wort' und Werke                     Having memorized
merkt' ich, und den Brauch,             what to say and do,
und mit Geistesstärke                     with my powers of will I can
tu ich Wunder auch.                     do some witching, too!

   Walle, walle,                               Go, I say,
manche Strecke,                       Go on your way,
dass zum Zwecke                       do not tarry,
   Wasser fliesse,                               water carry,
und mit reichem, vollem Schwalle       let it flow abundantly,
zu dem Bade sich ergiesse!               and prepare a bath for me!

Und nun komm, du alter Besen!     Come on now, old broom, get dressed,
Nimm die schlechten Lumpenhüllen     these old rags will do just fine!
Bist schon lange Knecht gewesen:     You're a slave in any case,
nun erfülle meinen Willen!             and today you will be mine!
Auf zwei Beinen stehe,                     May you have two legs,
oben sei der Kopf,                     and a head on top,
eile nun, und gehe                     take the bucket, quick
mit dem Wassertopf!                     hurry, do not stop!

   Walle, walle,                               Go, I say,
manche Strecke,                       Go on your way,
dass zum Zwecke                       do not tarry,
   Wasser fliesse,                               water carry,
und mit reichem, vollem Schwalle       let it flow abundantly,
zu dem Bade sich ergiesse.               and prepare a bath for me.

Seht, er läuft zum Ufer nieder!     Look, how to the bank he's running!
Wahrlich! ist schon an dem Flusse,     and now he has reached the river,
und mit Blitzesschnelle wieder     he returns, as quick as lightning,
ist er hier mit raschem Gusse.     once more water to deliver.
Schon zum zweiten Male!             Look! The tub already
Wie das Becken schwillt!             is almost filled up!
Wie sich jede Schale                     And now he is filling
voll mit Wasser füllt!                     every bowl and cup!

   Stehe! Stehe!                               Stop! Stand still!
Denn wir haben                       Heed my will!
   deiner Gaben                               I've enough
   Vollgemessen!                               of the stuff!
Ach, ich merk' es! Wehe! Wehe!       I've forgotten - woe is me!
Hab' ich doch das Wort vergessen!  what the magic word may be.

Ach, das Wort, worauf am Ende     Oh, the word to change him back
er das wird, was er gewesen!     into what he was before!
Ach, er läuft und bringt behende!     Oh, he runs, and keeps on going!
Wärst du doch der alte Besen!     Wish you'd be a broom once more!
Immer neue Güsse                     He keeps bringing water
bringt er schnell herein,             quickly as can be,
Ach, und hundert Flüsse             and a hundred rivers
stürzen auf mich ein!                     he pours down on me!

Nein, nicht länger                       No, no longer
kann ich's lassen,                       can I let him,
will ihn fassen,                               I must get him
das ist Tücke!                               with some trick!
Ach, nun wird mir immer bänger!       I'm beginning to feel sick.
Welche Miene! Welche Blicke!       What a look! - and what a face!

O, du Ausgeburt der Hölle!            O, you ugly child of Hades!
Soll das ganze Haus ersaufen?    The entire house will drown!
Seh' ich über jede Schwelle            Everywhere I look, I see
doch schon Wasserströme laufen.    water, water, running down.
Ein verruchter Besen!                    Be you damned, old broom,
der nicht hören will!                    why won't you obey?
Stock, der du gewesen,            Be a stick once more,
steh doch wieder still!                    please, I beg you, stay!

Willst's am Ende                        Is the end
gar nicht lassen?                        not in sight?
Will dich fassen,                        I will grab you,
will dich halten,                        hold you tight,
und das alte Holz behende                with my axe I'll split the brittle
mit dem scharfen Beile spalten.        old wood smartly down the middle.

Seht, da kommt er schleppend wieder!    Here he comes again with water!
Wie ich mich nur auf dich werfe,            Now I'll throw myself upon you,
gleich, o Kobold, liegst du nieder!            and the sharpness of my axe
Krachend trifft die glatte Schärfe.            I will test, o spirit, on you.
Wahrlich, brav getroffen!                    Well, a perfect hit!
Seht, er ist entzwei!                            See how he is split!
Und nun kann ich hoffen,                    Now there's hope for me,
und ich atme frei!                            and I can breathe free!

Wehe! Wehe!                                Woe is me! Both pieces
Beide Teile                                come to life anew,
steh'n in Eile                                now, to do my bidding
schon als Knechte                        I have servants two!
völlig fertig in die Höhe!                Help me, o great powers!
Helft mir, ach ihr hohen Mächte!        Please, I'm begging you!

Und sie laufen! Nass und nässer    And they're running! Wet and wetter
wird's im Saal und auf den Stufen,    get the stairs, the rooms, the hall!
Welch entsetzliches Gewässer!    What a deluge! What a flood!
Herr und Meister, hör' mich rufen!    Lord and master, hear my call!
Ach, da kommt der Meister!            Ah, here comes the master!
Herr, die Not ist groß!                    I have need of Thee!
Die ich rief, die Geister,            from the spirits that I called
werd' ich nun nicht los.                    Sir, deliver me!

„In die Ecke                              “Back now, broom,
   Besen, Besen!                              into the closet!
Seids gewesen,                      Be thou as thou
   denn als Geister                      wert before!
ruft euch nur zu seinem Zwecke      Until I, the real master
erst hervor der alte Meister!”      call thee forth to serve once more!”

Had run out of 30 Rock episodes recently so decided to see what the cast had been up to before or during this show.
Watched Mean Girls (2004, written by Tina Fey, aslo starring by the way) and Kevin Smith's Cop Out (2010, starring Tracy Morgan)

Mean Girls: saw this one years ago already but didn't really pay it any attention back then. Was cool seeing it again with added background knowledge. It's no Clueless, but it's a cool, sweet and slightly left-field take on a pretty rigid genre. And never really got the whole Lindsey Lohan deal, but here I must admit, I kind of get it. She's cute. Some nice Saturday Night Live sideline parts as well (Tina Fey, Amy Poehler) and even the janitor from Scrubs turns up. :)

Cop Out: Skip it. Bad, bad Kevin Smith! It's the first Smith movie he hasn't written himself and boy it shows. What a mess of a movie. Basically tries to emulate Beverly Hills Cop via a 48 Hours type of set-up, without the humor. It's constantly just on the verge of funny, but can't quite reach it. It had it's moments, but for me it's the first Smith-fail. Oh, hmm, but I haven't seen Jersey Girl yet. ;)
This Cop Out was apparently his first director-for-hire gig but they should've just let him write it as well. There was humor in there somewhere but the current writers sure as hell couldn't find it, or something.
Basically the changing of the first title "A Couple Of Dicks" to "Cop Out" says it all.
