Bombing the Reich - Heavy metal song.
« on: 30-06-2010, 19:06:21 »
Haha, OK. I know this is far from an every day thread on these forums but for my GCSE music I have to write a "pop" song. "Pop" meaning popular. Heavy metal has a following therefore in my books it is popular.  8)

Anyway. So I want to write a Heavy Metal track with War inspired lyrics. I take most of my influence in from Iron Maiden. So with a clear idea painted in my head by tracks like Paschendale, Aces High and The Longest day, I want to write a song entitled "Bomb the Reich". My initial idea was to write a piece from the persepective of a German tanker during Barbarossa but I wasn't quite sure how to do it. So suggestions on both ideas are welcome.

My main aim is to try and tell a story through the lyrics so I'd like some ideas on key events or sections of the story and if there are any fellow musicians any key/chord recomendations?

Nice, to be honest I was expecting to hear some thrash metal rubbish but it has a real heavy metal sound to it. (Primo Victoria)

Try their recent album coat of arms!
Nice songs about exiled pilots, battle of the bulge and greek heroism in the war (something Bouras will find interesting ;D ).

Thrash is the most refined metal ever made. Listen to Anthrax and learn from the masters.

Ok, it's not that I don't really like trash, it is ok. But I like Heavy Metal/hard rock. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppord, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Helloween, Deep Purple and now Sabaton :P

I'm not sure I'd call Sabaton a good band, bu I would call them my guilty pleasure band.

Sabaton is quite polular in Poland because of their songs about polish soldiers in WW2. It's funny and sad at the same time.

Fuchs, Anthrax? They have few neat songs but I wouldn't call them masters, more like old scoolers. They really look silly in comparison of the other bands of 'the great 4' (Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer). I guess music taste really differs.

<3 Manowar's heavy metal flavour (decent music, good vocal) - Heavy metal or no metal at all! Wimps and posers... leave the hall.

The whole image of 'true' metalhead always gives me a smile.

shit this thread makes me feel old.

In my youth I used to listen to heavy metal, I saw Metallica at Donnington in the 80's when they were supported by Megadeath.  No it's just noise to me now, such a shame, because like you said the stories they tell are quite unique and poetic.

Completley not heavy metal (and probably too pansey for you) - but some good war songs, to get lyrics from, Don McLean 'The Grave', The Pogues 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda', The Zombies 'The butchers tale'.

Completley heavy metal and my suggestion (you probably already have) Megadeath 'Ashes in your Mouth', Metallica 'Blackened', or 'Disposable Heroes', is Judas Preist heavy metal to you? if so Dissident Aggressor.

And just because no matter what you listen to you should always have Floyyd in your collection...
Pink Floyyd - When the Tigers broke free
Pink Floyyd - Get your filthy hands of my dessert
HadrianBT - Why the hell would "Germany" attack pigmy ppl??!!
Thorondor123 - I agree that people are not wearing enough hats
