Off-Topic / Colourising History
« on: 20-02-2015, 03:02:05 »
So I recently found out that I really enjoy colourising old photographs.

Railways are one of my key interests as some people on here may know and when someone on a facebook group I'm a member of started to post some of his old black and white photographs from the 60s I asked him whether he'd be kind enough to let me attempt colourising them.

He gave me the go ahead and here are some of the results:

Anyway, some of you may have guessed where this is going..

I'm going to give recolouring some Second World War photographs now, balance out the Tank to Train ratio.

Modding / [MAP] Operation Aberdeen
« on: 08-09-2011, 15:09:19 »
Operation Aberdeen

As some of you may remember a while back I started to make a remake of Operation Aberdeen. My main aim was to create a map more representative of the actual conflict which took place in the Gazala cauldron.

Although detailed information on this conflict is hard to find, using various sources available to me i've tried to paint a picture of what the battle could have looked like.

"The lack of properly-appointed controlling authority beneath 8th Army virtually doomed the attack from the outset... At first everything seemed to go well, as the leading battalions reached their initial objectives against only moderate opposition, but they soon found they were merely scratching the surface of Rommel's defense which lay further west... The 22nd Armored Brigade advanced straight into a hail of steel, as Rommel's cunningly disposed 88s and anti tank guns spat fourth death and destruction."

The map opens with a relatively easy assault for the British as they advance towards a small ridge held by the Italians, after this initial ridge is overrun the map opens up as the British are then faced with three 88 ridges and an Artillery ridge. The British must push on and attempt to gain a foothold before Rommel's XXI Panzer Division is unleased from the North-West, clashing with the British Armor in a fierce brawl.

Off-Topic / Lucid Dreaming
« on: 11-07-2011, 00:07:46 »
Lucid Dreaming
A lucid dream is a dream in which the sleeper is aware that she or he is dreaming. When the dreamer is lucid, she or he can actively participate in and often manipulate the imaginary experiences in the dream environment.

Some of you may, or may not be familiar with this idea. It is a scientifically proven act in which you can take control of your brain when it is at its most active, free and creative state. While dreaming, the whole of you brain is working hard, the area which works at a lower level than it would usually do when you are awake is the part of your brain which controls logical reasoning and thought; this is why all sorts of weird and wonderful things can happen while dreaming.

Often in dreams, crazy and wild things can happen and you won't think anything of it until you wake up. This is because, as far as you are aware while dreaming, you are in reality. Lucid dreaming is being conciously aware within a dream that you are in fact, in a dream. Because of how real dreams feel this can be an extremely hard thing to achieve and if you are a non-natural Lucid dreamer can take several weeks preperation to achieve.

Examples of how to prepare yourself include keeping a dream journal. This is where you write down what you've dreamt about in as much detail before you do anything else after waking up. After building up this collection dreams you may eventually be able to find a theme running through the dreams whether this is a place, a sound, an action etc. Once conscious of this theme (this is achieved by reading your journal multiple times as a daily routine) you may be able to identify this theme within a dream; if you manage this you will be able to identify yourself as being in a dream state.

Another example is by pinching yourself routinely throught the day for a long enough period of time for this to become second nature to you. As routines will be thrown up in your dream due to your brain activity you should in theory pinch yourself within your dream without experiencing pain. Once you have noticed that you can pinch yourself without experiencing pain you have achieved a lucid dream state.

A final example is simply by routinely asking yourself, "Am I dreaming?". This sounds silly, but again, if this becomes second nature to you eventually you will ask yourself this question within your dream. Asking yourself such a question will allow yourself to observe your surroundings in detail. If you are in a dream state, you will become aware of it.

Now I'm no expert on this subject, although it does interest me greatly. If you are interested I strongly urge you to look into it further, a great place to start being youtube. I was curious as to whether anyone on this forum has experienced Lucid dreaming, whether anyone on the forum is a Natural Lucid dreamer, whether anyone on this forum would now consider giving this a go and if anyone would be willing to be the public forum guinea pig by starting attempting to Lucid dream, and updating daily on progress and results.

This is pretty cool stuff and is serious business. I'm being serious, great ideas, theories and creative potential can be unlocked with Lucid dreaming.

Lets hear your thoughts!

(P.S. This is written late, and i'm tired. There may be incidences of nonsense and poor spelling above, I apologise in advance.)

Hi guys, i'm playing with this band tomorrow in a regional final as there bassist is away and they need me to fill in for him.

Part of the competition is about getting publicity, in this case, views on their audition video. Could you do me a favour and just click on the link so as to get their video more views?

**PLEASE NOTE**

This is a crap recording, with crap equipment, in a community centre with crap accoustics. This video does the group no justice at all. They are infact really good in person - you'll have to take my word for it.

« on: 09-02-2011, 16:02:03 »
Hey guys, I recently bought BF:BC2 and have been enjoying it alot. I recently discovered that you can unlock the M1 garand by being a BF 'veteran'. So I went to the EA website, went on the Veteran section and then went about registering my past BF games to unlock said weapon.

But apparently my BF1942 cd key has already been claimed..

and so has my road to rome key...

..and my BF:SW key..

?????

Wha? How? When? Where? Why?
I am sitting here with the game booklets here in front of me, typing in the CD Keys!

Anyone have any suggestions? :(

Suggestions / Dust effect when firing prone.
« on: 08-01-2011, 17:01:34 »
I just saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is52qY6w5MI&feature=related
There is a brief description under the video of how it was done and how it works.

I think this could be good for balancing heavy machine guns, such as the MG42. Alot of people find it is too accurate but I believe if firing caused dust to be kicked up infront of the player's face he would find it alot harder to fire accuratly. :)

General Discussion / The FH Christmas poem.

---BUMPED FOR CHRISTMAS 2011---

"Twas the Night before Christmas - FHforum"

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a paperpanzer stirred, not even a maus;
The computers were hung on the Fhmod page with care,
In hopes that Azreal soon would be there;

The players were nestled all snug in their trench,
While visions of lafettes danced in their heads;
And Flippy in her 'kerchief, and Muddy in his cap,
Had just settled down for a long spamtastic nap;

And just like that, with a bang and a flash,
Toddel rammed his tiger through a house, with a deafening crash;
And thus, thy night before Christmas,
FH2 won;

A StuG on a hill, covered with snow,
Gazing at the wrecks of white Shermans below;
The humble FH users, in their comfort zone;
spam the forums on x-mas day,
.

HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAYS :D
Thank you to all who contributed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lets spread some of the festivities to the FH forums shall we?

I want to finish a FH take on the poem, "Twas the Night before christmas"

Two lines at a time, fill it with FH-related fun. I'll start...

"Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a paperpanzer stirred, not even a maus."

Suggestions / MG and MG emplacment tweak
« on: 28-10-2010, 13:10:58 »
Would it be possible to make aiming the MGs, both player carried and Fixed MGs slower to aim? After handling an MG42 myself I have noticed how cumbersome they are, especially when laying down. Infact if you haven't handled an MG42 yourself I think it is difficult to imagine how hard they are to handle.

Cast your mind to the static AT emplacments that can only turn on the spot. When turning them, once momentum has been gained and you let go of which ever directional key you were using the gun continues to roll slightly, slowing down gradually - Would it also be possible to impliment this into the MG emplacments?

Suggestions / Inside a tank - effects.
« on: 08-07-2010, 22:07:58 »
*Not sure if this is the most appropriate board or not*

I'm currently reading a book called "Tank men" and it is about the development of tank warfare from ww1 to the end of ww2. It has some very interesting first hand accounts from tankers of all nationalitys about what it was like to fight in them, including descriptions of what being fired on was like.

I'm willing to share some of these quotations with you as many of them could perhaps lead to better develop ment of effects and emmersion in future releases.

Only if there is interest though

"SomeSuspicious knocking on the tank' from incoming machine gun fire"

"We recieved the first strike on the rear of the tank, which immediately stopped"

"A shell burst through the turret, I was wounded in the face and left arm; blood covered my face and I could not see any more from my left eye"

"Sergeant-Major Hillion fought on as shell after shell crashed into his Hotchkiss tank, its 40mm of armour protection able to soak up much punishment"

"a powerful shock struck just behind me, I felt a violent pain in my back and a burning sensation on the whole left side of my face"

"an anti tank round entering the crew compartment was often accompanied by a searing flash of kinetic energy produced by its violent passage and metal flakes and scabs flying off the turret sides from the shock of impact.

"Dense smoke filled the tank" "The air inside the tank was unbreathable, I felt I was suffocating"

It continues on about how he climbs from the turret with a machine gun but is knocked off of the side of the tank by yet another hit on his tank which knocks him unconcious. He is woken by an "excruciating pain" in his legs. "I opened my eye and saw a tank rolling over both my legs; the edge of the track just under my knees". He contained his cries of pain fearing a mercy shot from the Panzer's commander.

There are more quotes on similar situations in the book but I cannot find them at the moment. These quotes are obviously not direct suggestions as such, rather reference and fuel for disscusion about how emmersion could be improved for tanking in game. I think its all to easy to forget there were people inside these machines and that it wasn't just a case of the tank absorbing all the flak until eventually blowing up; rather the crew feels everything that happens to the tank and all those rounds that pierce tanks don't just disapear, they harm the flesh and bones within.

Off-Topic / Bombing the Reich - Heavy metal song.
« on: 30-06-2010, 19:06:21 »
Haha, OK. I know this is far from an every day thread on these forums but for my GCSE music I have to write a "pop" song. "Pop" meaning popular. Heavy metal has a following therefore in my books it is popular.  8)

Anyway. So I want to write a Heavy Metal track with War inspired lyrics. I take most of my influence in from Iron Maiden. So with a clear idea painted in my head by tracks like Paschendale, Aces High and The Longest day, I want to write a song entitled "Bomb the Reich". My initial idea was to write a piece from the persepective of a German tanker during Barbarossa but I wasn't quite sure how to do it. So suggestions on both ideas are welcome.

My main aim is to try and tell a story through the lyrics so I'd like some ideas on key events or sections of the story and if there are any fellow musicians any key/chord recomendations?

Suggestions / Stug III
« on: 28-06-2010, 23:06:47 »
I know we've got a Stug III in game and now the Stug IV but what I'd like to see is one of the more (in my eyes) iconic stug IIIs.

Like the Stug III G with the boxy mantlet rather than the cast mantlet. I know it sounds abit moany and unneeded but they were the meanest looking Stugs and at the moment the two we have; the G with cast mantlet and Stug IV are the two most similar looking Stugs.

I'd love to see the box mantlet version in a later patch, I'm sure it will come with the Eastern front, but I'd like to see it in Normandy at some point as well.

Badass tank destroyers.
