Title: Jeeps on Bastogne 16
Post by: Flyboy1942 on 13-04-2012, 16:04:10
This is a quick suggestion:

When the 16 player map starts, both teams rush to take Mont, because it becomes nearly impenetrable once a team holds it. The thing is, the Yanks have a jeep, and get there first every time. I think I've played exactly one round where the Germans made it in first, and I think the jeep must have gone for the other flag or flipped or something. : /

My suggestion is to simply add a Kubelwagon to the German vehicles, so there is a more even chance for either team to take Mont first.

Im also gonna raise the idea of making the Bridge flag the more strategically significant flag (bleed), although the current king of the hill type game is pretty fun.

German bias

but you are right, maybe it is better to remove the jeep of ami's, or let it spawn later on in the game, along with a kubel

Agreed, good suggestion.

MG34 mounted on a Kubel would be nice, or no jeeps for either side at all. As for the bridge flag, I think its good as is. It gives some flanking spawn points, a mortar, and maybe an ammo kit. Advancing on Mont from the bridge gives a fair bit of cover since trees block the windows of Mont. But then even that is balanced out in some odd way with a mounted MG by the American base that no one really uses. Now that I think of it though, the Germans get a sniper rifle at their spawn and the Americans don't until they take Mont which might be there to balance things. The sniper rifle can get you at least 2-40 kills before you die on this map.

Few understand how important heavy/special weapons are in winning a infantry siege, remember that next time your playing on Bastogne 16, Olympus 16 and just about any other map. I think most maps that people say are unbalanced even in the slightest, there is almost always some asset that was never used or even considered.

Im not sure if the jeep mounted mg is really a deal breaker as far as balance goes. I figure it's about as "useful" as the secong mg on the german halftrack.

I actually favor adding a kubel, but not letting them spawn till a few minutes in, so the initial rush is made with APCs and footsoldiers. Later on they can provide entertaining jeep chases or fast flank attacks...
