My brother loves canned tuna-mayo so much, and he invented sauteed canned tuna-mayo in olive oil and garlic. I admit it improves the taste a lot.
Mayonnaise is probably Indonesia's contemporary traditional food. People here are like whores for Mayo, if you find a salad bar at low-end joint in-the-middle-of-nowhere, the main dressing: mayo! Mix with tomato sauce to create your own thousand island dressing, but no... most people go for Mayo. No French, Italian, Greek, Feta dressings. Japanese katsu (batter fry), karaage (deep fry), dipping sauce? Mayo! Cantonese dim-sum favourite: deep fried shrimp dumpling with mayonnaise sauce.
And then there is this stupid cheese craze. Pizza topping with cheese, pasta with cheese, aglio-olio with cheese! Sausage with cheese, fries with cheese melts. And it is all Cheddar or Parmesan (for garnish) or Edam (the worst legacy from colonial era). It is almost can be said that cheese is our traditional staple food. Maybe we are more influenced by US than Europe.
