Sounds nice..
But we have limited battles:
-Kasserine
-El Guettar
-Bizerte
etc..

And most of us don't know how to map.

But this could be fun!  :)

There's also the problem that mapping in BF2 takes a very long time. For a contest to happen in an even remotely reasonable amount of time the maps would either have to be very rudimentary(not much eye-candy) or very small.

Maybe make the contest a 3 months or more deadline?
Not sure how long a map is made..

i have never used a lot of time creating maps  :P Bloody Gulch is a two week job (for a fun and detailed map)

so a 3 month limit is a good coiche

TBH the time limit should be 1-2 weeks. Any mapper who knows what they're doing can make a decent-looking map in that time, then spend more time adding all the pretty fiddly-bits. Stuff like base terrain & textures, flags, roads, trees, buildings, equipment etc are quick to make. Then have the top 2 or 3 maps worked on further.
It's half naked people on boats. That's all.
Here in Finland we call that "summer".

yeah, like making a "semi-final"  giving the mapper more time to prepare for a final or something, that could be Really interesting

My bad, forgot about that.

Can't 3 months be the maximum time limit?
The mappers could run into some problems irl.

I'd make sure the gameplay is interesting and good before spending 3 months to make a super detailed map with lacking gameplay. This is mapper error #1 (done it myself plenty of times :) ). I propose 2 stages, gameplay planning 1 month for example, then another 2 to make it pretty (times as you plese).

Coming up with a gameplay/map idea is a big chunk of the work you know :)
