Ok, here is my story hehe  ;D.

I was with BGF mod for a few months as a static modeler (till they died). Since I didn't know a lot about modding when I was with BGF (actually, I was still very new to it), I spent a few months studying the Refractor engine and getting in general more knowledge with it and modeling, until I was more comfortable. After awhile, I went to XWW2 where I did a few hand weapons for them (still unreleased content), and left because I wanted to really, really work hard on texturing (and a few other personal reasons  ;)). So then, I've focused almost all of my free PC time on texturing over the past months.

I forgot to add, I was with BF:Korea before XWW2. But I pretty much stopped modding for mods in general, because like I said earlier I was dedicated to texturing. Once I was at a better spot with my skill range I came back (this was several months ago).

And now I'm still with BF:Korea to this day :). But I'm getting a model/texture portfolio together for school next year so I don't have an awful lot of time for modding right now. I'll show my most recent personal stuff on this forum sometime, maybe.

That was probably somewhat confusing to read. Probably because of my moving around a lot, hehe  ;D.

I'd like to hear a little background story on how you got into modding, toddel  ;).

Cheers!

(They slacking) I wondered if I could help a bit. Modeling and Texture i though coulnd be too hard so I tried. Thats its. Learned Modeling and Texturing not long ago. I never visited a School for CG. Hehe yeah.

Modeling and texturing I learned on my own to (of course, Fat Joe helped me out with texturing when I ran into a brick wall... which happened often  ;D). But it came easy to me for the most part... but on the other hand, things like mapping, coding and animation I simply don't understand  :).

But I want to go to school to learn game art more, like, so I can get into the industry and all that good stuff  ;).

Don't know if it can be even considered modding, but I started some basic coding not so long ago... you'll see (or not, some are hard to spot ;) ) effects of my work in Forgotten Honor Campaign 4 (to which I of course invite you all ;D )

Really?  You have some great talent, Toddel!  I thought you were a long time modder judging by the quality of your work. :)  I thought you were a dev for FH1, though?  Or have you only made FH2-related things?

I, sadly, do not have a modding history to share.  I have had (and do have) many ideas for maps and general stuff like that.  I do not have the patience, artistic skill (in a physical sense), or programs to push myself into modelling or texture work.  I do hope to get myself into mapping one of these days...I have made half-hearted attempts many times before.   :(

Hmmm lets see...

I've been mapping since the 1 year anniversary of BF2 for both BF2/BF1942 including mods. My first map for FH2 was Beda Fomm. After my 3rd version I was finally invited to work on my map as a beta tester, and from there I hope I can become a dev for FH2. With the help of a 3d modeling course I received for X-mas and Lynda.com I am now able to model VERY basic stuff. And now I have started to dip my hand into doing animations. (although Killi Vanilli won't reply to my thread on the private forums :( )

And yes I consider coding a very essential part to modding.

UVmapping is still the one thing that can give me trouble from time to time  ;D. I think its not to bad in most cases, though. My pet-peeve is when someone sends me a bad unwrap, I like doing it myself to be honest hehe.

Anyway, if I remember correctly my first skin was a bunker. I don't do statics though so I really only did it to get the hang of the system.  :)

Also, Azreal.

I can't speak for him, but I bet Archimonday would help you get started with animation.  :)

If you consider map making in Warcraft III as modding then yes I've been doing modding back in the day. I did alot of different maps with my friends and one of them got quite popular after someone altered its design without asking our permission. Mostly what I did back then was terraining and triggering work but I also did a few skins for units. Anyone who have ever toyed around with WC3 world editor knows its great tool for modifying that game and you can do some pretty amazing things with if you just learn to use it properly. :)

It was about the siege of Minas Tirith and the name of our map was Return of the King (while the altered maps had names like Battle of Minas Tirith etc.). :D

Our version had not only the Minas Tirith but also Osgiliath and Kuolleiden kulkutiet (I don't have a slightest idea what it is in english right now, it was that path which Aragorn went through mountains to the Stone of Erech). In the altered versions' they had either the Osgiliath removed and just had my Minas Tirith or it was basically same map but simplified design.

Problem was that we did our map for Reign of Chaos but the altered maps were solely made for The Frozen Throne so we didn't even know about them until we had the expansion. But its still nice to know that at least one of our maps was small success even if it was altered in many ways.

Hey, nice topic and interesting stories here.

I'm member of the Infinity: The Quest For Earth community (one of the top 5 upcoming indie games on moddb), working as a regular contributor. I have done some vehicles and spaceship models, skins and textures, along with a building tileable texture pack project.

Here's some of my work for Infinity:

Kuolleiden kulkutiet is called Paths of the Dead.

Anyway, I think I played the remake of your map a couple of times. Did it also have Mordor, Isengard and tree ants? Or perhaps that was an even later remake. Still had alot of fun with it, tough. ;D
