Sticky updated.

 - Alternate DL link added for the user-friendly version of the uber-patch.

Thanks for that, Phil.

@gav: That's handy, I didn't realize you could apply it that way. I assumed it was only applied to certain maps due to the lack of a Strategies.ai file in most of the server.zips.

The maps won't play any differently though, the Strategies file I added to the maps (that didn't already have one) was the same as the one the aidefault uses (medium FCAPF).

@djinn: Sorry about that mate, I didn't realize that Mediafire has a weekly DL limit on "special" files... ::)

Quote
Our Free subscription has file limitations.  These certain file may be shared up to 10 times per week.   Theses types are special archives, such as ZIP or RAR files, that are encrypted, password protected, or split into pieces
- from Mediafire's FAQ

Can anyone with the friendly-version upload it as a single file?

If not, I'll split it into two separate archives on the weekend and re-upload it.

Sticky updated:

 - User-friendly version of the Uber-patch (with ESAI added).

The file is over 200MB (Mediafire's max filesize on free accounts), so I had to upload it in two parts. Sorry for any inconvenience.

For what it's worth, over 1450 people have downloaded 2.3SP_fixed_files.

PS: Sorry about the double post.

I apologize to anyone who downloaded the uber-patch from the sticky thinking it'd be user-friendly.

(You'd think I'd know better by now not to break my own rules.)

Ok, the uber-patch shouldn't have been posted in the sticky as it is not user-friendly. I didn't check the files before posting the link and Murphy's Law got me again.

I'm about to go through and finish applying the map fixes, afterwards I'll figure out how big the user-friendly version will be and decide whether or not I can upload it. If it's too big, someone else will have to do it or the link gets removed.

For the time being though I'll leave it there.

Sticky rules:

The files added must be user-friendly, in other words they must require no more than 3 steps to use:

1. Download
2. Extract
3. Play

File editing is verboten.

Remember, this sticky is primarily for people who aren't familiar with editing files.

Sticky updated.

 - Uber Mappack added.

I'll add the install instructions (and clean the sticky up) once I get a chance to have a look at it.

Good job guys.

OMFG!!! NEW PLAYER MODELS!!!!!!!!!!!

Without a shadow of a doubt, this the best BF3 trailer I've seen.

I wonder what made them finally realize that nobody really gives a shit about the new maps/vehicles/weapons?

Crossbow?... :-\

Quote
...Inspired by real life military engineering ingenuity, this crossbow is created by taking the stock of a malfunctioning assault rifle and assembling with the other parts needed, like a piece of wire for the string (maybe found inside a broken down car), some scrap metal for the bow mechanic  and a scope. Just add duct tape, and you have a new and silent way to deliver deadly force to the enemy...

Fair enough, but it doesn't really explain where all the ammo comes from.

If makeshift medieval weapons are acceptable, I want the ability to pick up any random piece of scenery, e.g: a branch, a steel bar, or even just a big fuckin' rock, so I can use it as a club.

Scavenger will be great, provided they don't put the weapons in the same place every round.

Finally, I like the way MoH news is posted on the BF3 part of Battlelog. I can't help but wonder how far off the next logical step is (in-game advertising)... ::)

Right-click the shortcut, go into Properties, and add " +fullscreen 1" (don't forget the space) to the end of the "Target" line.

E.g.: If your target line looks like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe"

Change it to this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +fullscreen 1

However, if I'd knew how to get the interior panel away, I'd replace the speaker myself...
The problem with removing interior trim is not knowing what sort of clips/fasteners hold them in place. Many will come out by simply pulling on the trim in the right place, while others need to be turned like a screw.

 - Are there any big do-it-yourself car wreckers nearby?

Ideally, if you can find the same model at the wrecking yard, you can do a practice run on that.

 - If not, try and find a factory manual* for your car.

Probably means you'd have to buy one, although FWIW, my local public library has factory manuals for most popular makes and models.

 - Failing that, just have a go mate, but be gentle!

Get your fingers (or a screwdriver) under the edge and try lifting/levering the trim. If it just flexes, you are too far away from the clip. If they are of the type that just pop out, and you lift/lever next to it, it shouldn't require that much force.

The main thing to remember is, if the trim is flexing to the point where you think it'll break, you're doing something wrong and need to change your angle of attack.

If you're really lucky, it'll be one of those bits of trim that's locked into place by other pieces of trim, and by the time you get the original piece out, you'll have dismantled half the interior... ;)

*= Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the handbook that came with the car or a service manual, but a proper factory manual. They're usually a couple of inches thick at least and they tell you how to do everything.

Noticed today that one of the default speakers in my car is broken...
You would be better off taking it to a dedicated car audio retailer/installer rather than the factory dealership.

A car audio shop should be able to supply and install a better pair of speakers for less.

Unless your car is still under warranty, the dealership will probably charge you for a pair anyway (I doubt they'll sell them individually), so you might as well put better ones in.

Although this does all depend on the car, some actually have very good audio setups (and not just the head units but the speakers as well), but any half-competent car audio guy will be able to tell you which speakers are better.

Yeah, he was gone before they made it big, but they did it using a lot of his music.

Haha, yeah good old Napster. I wonder why they're giving these away for free?

Maybe Mr. Ego (Lars) believes he's screwed enough money out of his fans... :-\

(I like him as much as you like Dave  :) )

Here's an interesting read: http://blogs.battlefield.com/2012/09/10th-anniversary-veterans/

Quote
MAGNUS: There was NOTHING wrong with single player in 1942!
I wonder why they changed it for the worse?

Quote
LARS: One interesting thing is we’ve talked about player counts over the years. A lot of people still feel that 40 or so players is the optimal number where it plays the best. Sometimes 64 players doesn’t necessarily mean a better experience. On Operation Métro, for example, 64 players gets pretty hairy.
Reducing the player numbers is one way of driving another nail into the Battlefield coffin... ::)

Most interesting bit of all:
Quote
MAGNUS: I’d love to see a remake of the big and beautiful El Alamein map.

MATS: Yeah, that was a real favorite of mine.

STEFAN: It was so much fun just flying around on it, doing nothing. Just looking around at everything.

LARS: M-hm. It would be great to return to the Second World War. There is so much left to do.

MATS: Yeah. And we picked 1942 for a reason. EVERYTHING had cool design.

MAGNUS: I’d like to give people back the possibility to modify Battlefield in the future.

MATS: Yeah.

MAGNUS: I remember this dude making the craziest mods for 1942. He remade a Tiger tank into a spider…

LARS: …And put a tilt rotor on the B-17 bomber!

MAGNUS: Awesome stuff!

LARS: And I remember a Pirates versus zombies mod and a Formula 1 mod.

LARS: Maybe Stefan knows, but if you do a mod tool nowadays I think it has to be pretty thorough since everything is so complex. You’d need to put a lot of work into those tools.

MATS: Wait, wasn’t it MORE complex in Battlefield 1942? Those mod tools were pretty basic.

LARS: Yeah, you pretty much had to reverse engineer the game! Could it be any more complex?

MATS: But seriously, it would be cool to make it moddable again. It makes the game live longer, not just because of us.

LARS: Yes. The game takes on a life of its own.

Never say never... ;)

While it's possible the first one on that page (San Francisco, 1982) features the original lineup, the one you mentioned doesn't.

Hammett's not the original guitarist, he replaced Dave Mustaine... ;)

I think the penny has finally dropped over at the A-League.

After Sydney FC secured the services of Del Piero, the Newcastle Jets went out and signed Emile Heskey on a one year deal, and new team the Western Sydney Wanderers have signed Shinji Ono for two years.

If they continue to entice players of this calibre down here, in a decade or two soccer might actually find itself threatening the two major "football" codes (Rugby league and Aussie rules).
