Lavochkin Curiosities

I was just browsing through the news on the main site a few minutes ago, just looking at all the Russia stuff.

I love looking at the photos of the La-5, and flipping back and fourth to see the difference in paint schemes and markings. Then I noticed that on the fuselage, there is one panel that never changes color.

Is this intentional? If so, why?

Not a complaint in any way, the model really is awesome, as are the skins. Just curious  ;D

That panel sits right behind the exhausts, so it's some sort of heat protection, probably.

Yes, the heat from the exhaust kills the paint on those panels. Iirc you have to put new ones on it from time to time cause of rust.
