Help, unknown badge ?
« on: 30-06-2014, 00:06:45 »

While playing PR, I met another Brazilian who also likes to know about the WW2. In fact his family has a military history, and his grandfather fought in World War II with the FEB. It seems that he participated in the Battle of Montese.
But anyway, after the war his grandfather brought to Brazil this...

We both did a search on the insignia, but we found nothing (He has researched far more than I, but also found nothing about)  ???

 Halp!?

This is an RSI (Republica Sociale Italiana) Honor badge for italian troops trained in Germany (and their instructors), instituted in 1944.

The Fasces - a bunch of sticks tied together forming a small axe - gave it out

Is it even legal to hold these "war trophies"?

Or museum people just need to scavenge on their own until people do actually give up and give them such items?

Why would it be illegal?

Of course it's legal, don't be silly, damaso.

Museums rely on donations and purchases from private individuals or from the state, I don't see why they should be entitled to every piece of history in existence. Sure it's a bit sad to see the last intact Tiger tank rot away in a private collector's backyard, but it's his property and you've no right to take it from him.
And I'll be damned if a war veteran would allow you to take his war loot away after what he's been through.

Seja bem-vindo!

Please, post more pics of it here if you can, it looks like a nice, preserved piece. Preferably in better quality than this ;D

Why would it be illegal?

I dont say it could be illegal... but its somehow strange: like.. imagine if i stole some useful enemy war material (i know this is childish: but a tiger tank for example) and then i just keep with him in the yard... isnt that strange somehow?

I steal an MP40 or a STG44 from a Volkstrum kid who i killed during the war as a russian soldier.. doesnt that seems a bit disturping? like just take over other's goods and keep them as war trophy's? would you like to know than after you die your goods were stolen and there are people rigth now saying stuff like: "hah! i killed this guy once - the son of a bitch was runing and Boom! headshot!"?

I understand than it shouldnt be illegal at all.. but its still somehow.. erhmm... sick? i dont know..

War loot is something present from the stone age. It's a token that says "I won".

It's not strange, to me at least.

You stole his MP40 (and better his ammo) because it might save your life later, that's what I thought.

But people stealing Luger, medals, I don't know, maybe it is just our ancient habit of souvenir collecting during a very life-changing events. There is no vendor around, so you should help yourself, although it is pretty bad if seen (The Soviets censured photographs of Berlin flag waver, remember?)

Ah yeah what was it? The guy had like 3 watches on his wrist IIRC...

EDIT: It seems it was only 1 watch... But he wore a compass on the other wrist so they censored it out not  to give the wrong message.

On this one it looks like the lower guy has more than one thing on his left arm. The other guy at least has one watch on his right arm (which is the wrong arm for a watch in NW Europe, but I'm not sure about the Soviet Union back then ).

Yes, that is the guy, holding the flag waver, he wears more than just 2 watches I believe.

Looting is common there. I think this one is censured because taking stuff from civilians is discouraged even more than taking war trophies from fallen enemy combatants.

Isn't the badge like technically German government property still? Just like all the other German war loot things?
