I just watched the Prisoner of the Caucasus (Prisoner of the Mountains is the title in US). It's about two modern day Russian soldiers who are captured by a band of Muslim rebels in the Caucasus. Together the unlikely pair work together to stay alive. The movie was fantastic and the characters were very enjoyable. Some parts of the movie are hilarious, some are exciting and some are very sad (some parts of it are downright depressing). It is one of the best Russian made movies I have ever seen.

the Ladykillers

8/10

For passing driver's exam I got a book about the Coen brothers will all their films, decided to watch this one today. Really doesn't matter with Coen, I love them all.

The combination of all those totally different characters with that southern style, amazing. Tom Hanks as crazy professor, one of his best performances I have seen. Really shows him as a very diverse actor.

I wont tell anything about the story, watch it. If you haven't already.

Double bill of The Godfather /  The Godfather Part II was recorded last weekend.
Just got through watching them, as I've never seen them from start to finish before, the gold standard of films I'd say, 9/10 each, and no, I can't say which one is better!  ;)

I aslo recorded a and enjoyed a film called Roger Doger, about a  spiv who lives in New York who thinks he's God's gift to women, who takes his 16 yr old nephew on a tour/quest to get layed on a weekend, it was most enjoyable for a 90 minute flick!

One of the few movies that actually made me laugh really hard out loud, I rarely have that. The combination of all those odd characters is just great. The ending is a bit cheesy though but most of the movie is great.

Maybe I'm a bit Coen-biased but I loved it.

The remake of lady killers is definitely worth watching. It's fun as hell.

City of Life and Death

I went to see the movie section for a once and found this, a movie about the battle of Nanjing during the second sino-japanese war in 1937. Or so I thought... Cover of the movie gives me the idea that this is a movie about the battle itself, but instead I was surprised that it is actually about the war crimes done by the japanese troops occupying Nanjing. I could say that this is the Schindler's List of the Far East. I liked it even thought it wasnt about the battle itself.

I'll give it a 4/5

The chase scene in that movie is just amazing, for two weeks in my old apartment I used to watch that scene every time I had dinner, so damn good.

Anyhow, been going through some Star Wars movies.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
- It's OK. Yeah, sure. Binks and all that but it's not that bad.

5 out of 10

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the clones
- Better, but still far from something special. Stiff acting and dialog just as in Episode I.

6 out of 10

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
- Slightly better as well, the finale of the new trilogy we all had been waiting for. Full of action.

6 out of 10

Star Wars Episode IV: A new hope
- The new version that is. Still enjoyable after all these years. Lots of nostalgia, yeah sure. But still OK.

7 out of 10

Next up, my favorite: The Empire strikes back!

I agree with Rawhide , though i would give The New Hope 8/10

Empire Strikes Back :    9/10

Return of The Jedi :      7/10

Had a huge Star Wars marathon lately. Have actually even bothered to see quite much of The Clone Wars. Some of the episodes are really awesome short stories, while others are predictable garbage for kids. Very very varied. Its not good enough so i will not bother to see season 3, but ive still had some fun, particulary with season 1.

Watched the Deathly Hallows part 1. By far the best Harry Potter film by now. Also the most loyal to the novel, perhaps because they decided to split in into two parts. Great decision, in my opinion.

4/5
