Post a screenshot of your proceslist and your performance monitor during a time you are experiencing lag.
Make sure performance monitor is running before you start FH2.

How are other demanding multiplayer games? Could the cause be your network hardware, software, or service?

You can also try go to the taskmanager and assign bf2.exe process to just 1 processor/core maybe that can help.

Makes it worse, 35 fps with 1 processor in cagny, 45 with 2. In a local game with just me. On 64 player server, still 20-30FPS

Guys just because the task manager says that both of your processors are being "used" by BF2 doesn't mean that BF2 is taking full advantage of dual core or quad core processing. BF2 was not optimized around dual core processors since they didn't exist, thus, though it uses both, it doesn't use both to make the game run smoother, ie, breaking up tasks to run on certain processors thus making the overall load lighter.

It really still (generally) treats the game like you only have a single core CPU. You might have a slight performance boost for having two, but certainly nothing like a game that has been made for dual or quad core CPU's.

On a quad core I would definitely switch the program to run with just one core!
A high-power single-core is still better for BF2 than a dual-core.

Intel Turbo Boost must be good for FH2 then (deactivating cores and increasing frequency), nay?

I would think so.
