Replacing wrench with a welder.
« on: 15-11-2009, 12:11:44 »
Considering the amount of damaged assets most people repair during the combat, like the static AT/AA guns, vehicles... Well that's all of them in a nut shell. It would make tad bit more sense to have a welder for those repair purposes then a wrench...

Probably while repairing or welding that bofor / vierling back into one piece, naturally that welding mask needs to be on that face, so it limits one's field of view to very narrow area and might even prevent combat repairs at the vicinity of main battle. So kinda like simulates that damaged tank retreats to the nearest repair depot / base for repairs and probably for the crew a replacement tank.

Sure at this moment for the next patch not possible to get but perhaps at later point of the mod?

Yeah, though up this idea partly from CoH and that other thread about anti-tank grenades when (was it mudra) that mentioned "I just imagined of a soldier running up to a tank with a plasma torch".

I'd probably try to mod such thing myself but since I don't have any kind of experience to 3d modeling...

Oh Oh Oh ! Like in that other game (cant remember its name) where you had a welding torch to repair friendly and even damage enemy vehicles :>

(Shame on me was it BF:V ? :O )

Sounds like C&C Renegade to me, lol.
Anyways, doesn't sound too bad. I'd wonder whether it's easy to implement the effects that would be necessary to make it look not stupid.

Yeah a welder in BF:V with which you could damage vehicles (but you had a wrench to repair your own)

Also in star wars battlefront, a welder to repair vehicles ;)
I see were you are trying to reach: "how can a 17 year old kid have such a thinking like this? why doesnt he wants to be like normal teens who whana get rich? and his plan actually makes sense, but is too damn revolutionary and good at the same time than is still doubthfull if it works..." - Damaso

It would be neat if there was a kit or two on the map called repair that got a welder. Basically instead of the traditional engineer kit, he would just get a pistol and bandage. The upside is that the welder could get some small repair speed bonus, but his visibility would be limited and it would shoot visible sparks out.

More time developing and making something that few players would ever use?  Unless you could weld people to death.

I use the wrench all the time. Should they stop wasting time and stop making SMG's because some people don't use them?

I don't know if its something that would be a priority, but the wrench is a pretty vital tool for serious vehicle users now. Without it the tank is a guaranteed death trap after a while. The OP's idea is not bad, and I think a dedicated repair kit would work as well. I think a lot of tankers would trade their rifle/explosives in for a slight repair advantage.

It would be interesting if it increased repair times by some variable, and was made a pickup kit in mainbases, but depending on the amount of work involved I'd say pretty low priority.
Michael Wittmann's gunner, Bobby Woll, was known to be an excellent Marksman.
He could hit targets at range even on the move.

Well, OBVIOUSLY you're just representing the welder crew.  One guy carries the torch, one carries the gas tanks, another carries the battery, etc... :3

In ww2 there were no "portoble welders"  so I like the wrench.
